Fedora :: Connect A Bluetooth Device With The Command Rfcomm?

Mar 11, 2010

First, excuse me for my bad english I want to connect a bluetooth device with the command rfcomm. In a terminal, I put the command :

Code:
rfcomm connect 0 00:80:98:E4:07:53
And the system answers :
Code:
Connected /dev/rfcomm0 to 00:80:98:E4:07:53 on channel 1
Press CTRL-C for hangup

On fedora 10, or 11, I can use this command with all users. On fedora 12, only the root user can connect and use this device. Other users have the message :

Code:
Can't open RFCOMM device: Permission denied What can I do to resolve this problem?

General :: Configure System To Act As A Bluetooth RFCOMM SPP Server?

May 18, 2010

I'm writing a phone app for Android that connects to a bluetooth RFCOMM device in my car. My phone app talks AT commands with it. For development work, I often need to communicate with the device to try different commands and things.

My neighbors are starting to think I'm weird because I sit in my car for hours on end with my laptop screen shining on my face, typing away like a script kiddie.

I'd much rather configure one of my many Linux servers to act as a bluetooth RFCOMM device and allow me to connect to it (indoors, while I sit on my couch).

I imagine I have to start with something like
sdptool add SP

But then what?

I'm perfectly happy writing a perl app to handle the I/O, but I just don't know how to make the bluez stack accept connections and subsequently pipe that stream to a perl app.

Ubuntu :: Using Cellphone As Bluetooth Modem In Hardy?

Mar 17, 2010

I recently got myself a bluetooth dongle. I frequently use my Sony Ericsson K800i mobile phone as a modem to connect my computers to the internet. I've had to use a USB datacable to link phone to computer, so I'm pretty stoked at the idea of using a bluetooth connection instead.

I used this tutorial to set up the modem connection. It's a bit aged: it was written in the days of 6.10, and goes on about bluez-utils; but it wasn't hard to update it, for instance replacing the command

Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/bluez-utils restart
with
Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart

and there's now a little graphic interface to pair devices and such, whereas when the tutorial was written you had to use command-line to pair and authenticate. Also, I use Gnome-PPP to start the internet connection rather than the ponand poff commands suggested in the tutorial.

I can connect to the phone/modem simply enough now with my EeePC running Jaunty. But when I put the same dongle in my Hardy-running desktop machine, I cannot establish a link. This really puzzles me: the same bluetooth device is being used in both cases, and I'm following the tutorial in both cases so I'm doing the same in both cases. I can do other stuff with the dongle and the Hardy box: for instance I can transfer files from one to the other. It's just the dial-up internet function that won't work.

I realise the next LTS version (Lucid) is coming out soon; and I'm pretty confident the bluetooth modem connection will work okay with Lucid. But in the meantime, I really would like to use the bluetooth connection now. Sometimes my phone can get a 3G signal only if it's sitting onmy window sill, and the datacable isn't long enough to do that. So, if anyone can point me in the right direction for info on how to use a phone as bluetooth modem with Hardy,

Ubuntu :: Skype/VLC Not Working In 8.10 Intrepid?

Feb 27, 2010

I'm having trouble with some qt-based apps that did work previously but now do not. So far I've seen this with Skype, VLC and umbrello. Applications appear to execute but GUI never seems to initialise. CPU remains around 90%. I'm using an eeepc 1000H running ubuntu intrepid 8.10 with adam's kernel 2.6.27-8-eeepc. Any ideas on how I can debug this? As I mentioned these applications worked fine in the past, I'm guessing an update broke them.

Ubuntu :: Realtek Alc650 Audio Not Working On Intrepid Ibex

Apr 15, 2009

Just installed latest Ubuntu (intrepid Ibex) on my DFI Ultra Infinity II system. It has onboard audio via a Realtek ACL650 chipset. Unfortunately, no sound. Have searched various forums, etc. and found recommendations to download the ALSA driver from realtek, but those posts are from ~2007 and the drivers are dated from back then as well. Nobody present-day seems to be suffering audio problems with this motherboard or chipset. I did install the 2007 realtek driver, but no change. What logs can I check?

General :: Intrepid To Jaunty Upgrade Not Working?

I just upgraded from jaunty to intrepid. The upgrade tool went through everything without a hitch and when it finished it told me to restart my computer. When I did, ubuntu began to boot, got past the initial loading splash screen, but immediately after, before the login splash, the screen freezes with some strange graphics glitch and refuses to work from there. How can I fix this to any workable state, upgraded or not?

Ubuntu :: Why A Hardy/Hardy Dual-boot Shouldn't Work

Jan 5, 2010

I've had issues with the later versions of Ubuntu, so in an effort to road-test Firefox 3.5 on Hardy I'd like to change my Karmic/Hardy dual boot to a Hardy/Hardy dual boot, and follow the instructions in [URL] to put the Mozilla build of 3.5 on the new installation.

I can't see any reason why a Hardy/Hardy dual-boot shouldn't work, but does anyone know of any issues with this I might not be aware of?

Ubuntu :: Flash Stopped Working In 64 Bit Hardy

I know 64 bit Flash has been a headache, but mine was working until yesterday. Symptoms began with it not working in Opera and Seamonkey. I checked the Adobe site and found what appears to be a later version, so I downloaded it, extracted it, then copied it to the relevant directories. That changed nothing at the time, but this morning it stopped working in Firefox as well.

General :: Slow And Poorly Working Karmic Koala After Upgrade From Hardy

Jan 21, 2010

I reinstalled Ubuntu on my HP pc-40 computer. I used to run Hardy Heron and am now running Karmic Koala. The cd drive which had had issues for a while, broke after finishing the install, when I tried to get the cd out.I dont know if this has anything to do with it, or if my computer is too old for Karmic Koala, or if possibly the harddrive didn't appreciate being overwritten a second time - but the graphics are not working well (small squares of previous windows linger in my present browser window*)everythin is much slower, and many applications come up without a border, or their windows cant be moved with the mouse.

To top it off, while I tried to fix a bug with the terminal (no border) and uninstalled it, I couldnt install it back. So no terminal, which really makes even a newbie like me sad.If I cant solve it in a few days I will probably try to install a smaller distro via USB - I think Slax can be installed straight to USB without a live cd?

Ubuntu Networking :: 9.10 - Bluetooth Detected But Not Working?

I run ubuntu 9.10. I recently convinced my wife to give it a shot. The problem is, the bluetooth dongle is detected and the icon appears when its plugged in, the mouse is found and says it is pointing in bluetooth manager but it does not move the cursor on the screen. I have tried 2 different dongles and both work correctly and control the mouse on my asus laptop. She is using a toshiba satelite. Both dongles show up in lsusb as hci0. I've tried everything on the forums and everything I could think of but no go. If she doesn't have use of the mouse for farmville I will be in trouble.

Ubuntu :: 10.04 Minimal Install Bluetooth Not Working?

Aug 13, 2010

I have a minimal lucid install to run XBMC with only xinit x11-xserver-utils installed no GUI. I'm trying to get my Logitech Dinovo Edge working via bluetooth. I've install bluez-utils and can do an hcitool dev and see my bluetooth dongle, and I if I use hcitool scan, and press the connect button on my keyboard, the keyboard shows up with it mac address. It won't connect at this point though, so I have to issue a sudo hidd --connec00:11:22:AA:BB:CC and get it to connect.Unfortunately, if I reboot or turn off the keyboard, it doesn't work again without SSHing in and redoing the steps above. Does anyone have an idea to get my keyboard working at startup?

Ubuntu Networking :: Bluetooth / Wireless Same FN Key Not Working?

Apr 10, 2011

Trying to enable bluetooth (internal) on my Acer Aspire One D255. Despite bluetooth issues in general, here is the kicker: Acer decided to combine the fn+F3 key and fn+F2 key into one uber-network key. In windows 7 you hit fn+F3 and you get two options on your screen: enable/disable wireless + enable/disable bluetooth. Not so Ubuntu. I hit fn+F3 and it does various things to my wireless or my bluetooth every 3rd or 4th press. Disabling or enabling both... or neither. Very frustrating.

1) How does one remap the fn+F# keys (one for each)

2) Is there any other bluetooth voodoo for the bluetooth on this machine?

Ubuntu :: Bluetooth Keyboard / Mouse Not Working

Jul 18, 2011

I have a laptop. . .Dell 1150. Ubuntu installed, bluetooth device installed and my bluetooth keyboard and mouse works like a charm. I decided to load up my same exact Ibuntu on my desktop, use the same keyboard on it, and the mouse too. I tested it on the laptop, just in case it would not work in Ibuntu, and I didn't want to wipe out my Windows XP on my desktop and find out Ibuntu would not work on it with a wireless keyboard. Since it worked very well with my laptop, I figured it would work just as good with my desktop. I wiped my desktop out, and installed Ibuntu. Everything worked fantastic. Until I tried to install the bluetooth.

When I plug in my Bluetooth device, Ibuntu finds it and asks to set up your device. I attempt to set up my keyboard/mouse combo and it asks for a 6 digit code (like it is supposed to). I enter the code and press enter. From here, the problem starts. Ubuntu "claims" to connect to the keyboard, shows it connected, but my keyboard does not work at all. Neither does the mouse that is built into the keyboard. I type and nothing happens. This also brings up (sometimes) another message that says my keyboard is trying to connect to the bluetooth device please enter keyboard PIN. Well.

I can't enter anything, because the keyboard does not work! The mouse does not work! I can (without any problems) disconnect and connect to my laptop, but I can't do this to my desktop. Both are dell units. Desktop is about 3 years old, laptop is about 8 years old. Both running Ubuntu, the latest version. Both recognize the bluetooth transceiver. I have tried different USB ports on the desktop with no avail. I would really like to use my desktop as a unit to my TV with a wireless keyboard, not my laptop. It is much faster, more memory, and I can use the TV as a monitor.
