Ubuntu :: Audio Files Skip Every Now And Then

Jul 6, 2011

Strange problem from a couple of months, Audio files skip every now and then. Sounds like buffering issue. MP3, Wav etc. all skip on VLC, Qamp etc, once in a minute or two, its quite random. i thought there was CPU spikes or something by some program i installed. I checked the system monitor and found no unusual spikes in the CPU... so i am thinking this must be the audio buffers. Can i set the buffers for the for the driver or something? my machine is: Dell Inspiron Mini netbook Ubutu lucid 10.04, 2bg RAM, 260GB HDD

Programming :: Making The Mplayer To Skip Some Files?

Jun 6, 2010

GNU/Linux kernel 2.6, Slackware 12.0
MPlayer 1.0rc2-4.1.2
GNU Bash 3.1.17

I've got a set of MP3 files on dir .../foo/ and I want mplayer to play them sequencely but skipping some of them. If I run 'mplayer *' this will do but ofcourse won't skip any files. I think a shell script could be written to do that. It would be something like this (using some pseudocode):

#!/bin/bash
#After an example from Intro_Linux by M. Garret.
LIST=$(ls *.mp3)

[code]....

General :: How To Skip User Created Files During RPM Upgrade

Sep 4, 2009

I am trying to create an RPM package. However when the RPM package installs, it need to skip some files that might have been created by the user after the last installation and use of the program. Is there a way to build RPM package that just skips the user created content in the installation dir.

For example:
lets say my RPM package creates the following dir and creates files required by my application, say .app files.
/ppm/config/

However the user may also create a few .xml files in the same dir. How will I package my program that will not delete the .xml files from the above dir and will just create the application files (.app files).

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Change MP4 Video Files In A Directory To MP3 Audio Files?

Apr 29, 2011

What would be a nice, simple command to go through all files in a directory (no sub-directories), and change all the MP4 Video files I have to MP3 audio files (keeping the original filenames except for changing the "mp4" extension to "mp3")?

The files in question were videos taken with one of those Flip cameras, but I only need the audio off of it.

Software :: Setting Up A Church Server - What Software Is Best For Recording The Audio Or Audio-video Files

Jun 12, 2010

Setting up a linux based church server to be placed with a collocation host.

-- Server will be used for:
--- providing .pdf files
--- live streaming of church services (audio for now audio video soon)
--- providing audio files
--- providing audio-video files
--- our internet web site

A. Is there a preferred Linux distribution that will make this easier?

B. What is the best format for audio and video files that will be viewed variously on Linux, Mac, and Microsoft operating systems? Files will need to be played on older versions of operating systems and may need a free or very low cost software to play (e.g. play on Win2k)

C. What software is best for recording the audio or audio-video files? Some additional funding might be justified for this software, particularly if it can also support live streaming.

D. What software is best for live streaming both on the file creation and the listening-viewing sides of the process?

Ideally we would like to have a single software suite to live stream, and make downloadable audio or audio-video files for later download, and not require those listening and viewing to have to install additional software. Keeping file sizes small is also desirable because some of our users will probably only have dial-up internet.

There is an error that says that FFmpeg should import it but it didn't understand the format. I need to edit some of these audio files for use. Is there a way to convert these files to mp3 or flac so I can edit them? Searches turn up w32 ware and some arcane mencoder commands but they have to do with converting video.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: MKV Files Audio/video Out Of Sync?

Mar 29, 2011

I put all my dvds on my "media center" by converting them to .MP4 with handbrake.

Recently I saw that with a MKV file you could do soft subtitles. I tested a part of a movie, and the audio and video are very out of sync.

With MP4/burned in audio everything is ok...

Edit: Ow yes I'm using XBMC for playing it. MP4 + MKV files are both H.264, they have the exact same settings except for subtitles...

Weirdly Enough: I tried another video and at this one the audio is in sync....

The progress bar advances as if the file is playing, but there's no sound in my headphones. I do have gnome volume slider bar set to the highest value. I tried running alsamixer and the volume is set to the highest level (however +/- causes alsamixer to exit, and not change the volume level like the F1-Help page says). What can I do?I tried the Gnome filesystem browser and clicked on mp3 or wav file which brings up the totem music player. Again, the progress bar advances as if the file is being played, but no sound.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Unable To Burn Audio CD With Ogg Files Using GnomeBaker?

Apr 4, 2010

For the longest I have been unable to burn an audio CD that contains ogg files with GnomeBaker, and have always had to decode to wav manually. Well I'm tired of doing that, so want to get to the bottom of the problem. Upon adding an ogg file to the file list, the error I receive is:

"The plugin to handle a file of type audio/ogg is not installed." I have all the gstreamer0.10-plugins-[base|bad|good|ugly] packages installed. I can play an .ogg file with rhythmbox.

Using gconf-editor, /system/gstreamer/0.10/audio/profiles/cdlossy is "active" and the cdlossy profile is listed in /system/gstreamer/0.10/audio/global/profile_list At a loss on what I need to do.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Batch Convert Audio In Video Files?

May 8, 2010

a movie is encoded with AC3 in 6 channel audio, what I get out is all of the sounds except for voices, which in 5.1 would be sent to the center channel. What I usually do is fire up avidemux and convert the audio to mp3 stereo, as converting to a 5.1 format usually ends up with a very odd sound (like running everything through an echo chamber). What I'd like to do is run a script to batch-convert these files from AC3 to MP3. The video format may vary, but they are usually XVID. I am comfortable at the command line, but I am not well-versed in audio/video tool terms. I don't need anything extravagant, I just want something that works. Heck, even if it is done one at a time, having a shell script that I can use to simply type:

tool.sh inputfile.avi outputfile.avi
