Ubuntu / Apple :: Pin To Use Magic Mouse?
May 30, 2010
The Bluetooth detects my mouse, but it asks for a "pin" before I can use it. What the heck? I never had to put a pin in to use the mouse on the Mac OS X side. If I can't use my magic mouse, I can't use Kubuntu! I don't have any usb mice around.

I have an HP 6735s laptop that I have connected an Apple Wireless Keyboard and Apple Magic Trackpad to via bluetooth on 11.04.
When I login the keyboard automatically connects via bluetooth (once the gnome-bluetooth applet boots), however, I need to manually go into the applet and click connect for the trackpad. I can then run a script to start touchegg.
How I do set up the trackpad to auto-connect? I am guessing the built-in trackpad on the laptop is overriding it?

I am currently running RedHat 6.1 Workstation. The Gnome Bluetooth software does not find my Apple Magic Touchpad. What should I do? I tried scanning by doing "hcitool scan". It did not appear to find it. I am using a USB to Bluestem adapter called D-Link DBT-120.

wondering if any other ppc users have had the issue whereby, after the first unsuccessful power down (or sometimes the second or third) of a fresh ubuntu 9.10 install, mouse button 3, which is normally mapped to F12, becomes function (fn) + F12.? This is really annoying as you now have to use two hands to activate the little drop down menu. So i tried remapping mouse button three to that strange little key beside the left arrow on an ibook keyboard that looks like a picnic table and which, under os x, renames stuff.
I ran "gksu gedit /etc/sysctl.d/10-arch-specific.conf" and edited it accordingly: mouse button 3 from keycode 88 to 104. It works, but i still have to press function to activate it and fn + F12 still works simultaneously (though it is no longer defined in the conf file), and my new key doesnt offer the same functionality (eg, it doesnt give spell check options in firefox where fn + F12 does). Arg. Anybody know how to make it so that i can activate mouse button three without having to press function?

Anyway, just installed 10.04 desktop on a 4,1 Macbook. I've pretty much got everything to where I like it. My only real problem is the track pad/mouse not working right. Unless I move the the mouse perfectly vertical/horizontal the mouse starts zigzagging like crazy. The slower I move the mouse the more prominent the problem seems to be. I've tried playing with the mouse settings under preferences but nothing got it working smoothly.

I have Ubuntu 10.04 installed in dual boot with Mac OS X and it did work properly for a while. But after installation of ssh, gdesklets and perhaps some other general software, the mouse and keyboard stopped working.
As I restart the computer and start ubuntu normally it proceeds to the login screen, but the mouse and keyboard are not working there. Pressing Power-off button on the computer box brings up the count-down menu and it switches off in 60 seconds.
An attempt to use the rescue mode or the older release (from 2.6.32-22 to 2.6.32-21 - the only ones I have) leads to the same results (in the rescue mode the power button does nothing though).
Mac OS works alright (I'm using rEFIt boot manager).

I've seen many (unanswered) threads about this, so I'm asking again, specifically relating to Maverick on a MacBook 5,1 (and probably others) regarding the following:
Touchpad sensitivity Horizontal tracking across multiple displays is 2-3x faster than vertical tracking. Note that vertical tracking stays the same regardless of multi-monitor orientation; horizontal tracking seems to be the only thing affected by multi-monitor placement. This problem does not exist in single-monitor mode--x and y tracking is 1:1. There are no GUIs, xinput or other parameters I can find to adjust the x tracking resolution in multi-monitor mode, unless I'm just missing something. At this point I've tweaked every available parameter in xinput to see what they did, and none of them affected only the x resolution the way I would like.
Magic Mouse scrolling I have found several unanswered threads about this problem. Magic Mouse scrolling is terrible, and can't be adjusted using any of the GUIs available, nor by xinput. The ONLY existing solution is exclusive to Firefox. As above, I tried every xinput parameter for the driver available and could not get the scroll tracking to adjust at all. It's still static, at roughly 3-5 "lines" per tick, and the tick resolution is too great (my finger slides nearly the entire length of the mouse for only three or four ticks).
I am willing to look at source and compile new drivers if someone can point me in the right direction. Google is useless here, as the top 100 or so results all refer to the same handful of threads here on this forum, all of which remain unanswered to this day. If anybody out there has any new information regarding these problems, I'd love to hear about it, even if it's tucked away in some obscure blog nobody reads (which is why it wouldn't show up in the first dozen pages of Google results).

I just installed ubuntu 11.04 on my macbook 2,1 and noticed that the trackpad was having many issues with detecting my finger, it works fine in OSX. I found this post, but cant find the xorg.config file and read that it no longer exists in ubuntu 11.04 (and yes, I know that that page is for 10.10, but it should still work). Is there anywhere that I could put in that code to make the trackpad more responsive? Is there any way I can make a two finger tap register as a right mouse click?

After booting up from the cd, I noticed that neither my wireless keyboard or wireless mouse were working. after a while a different screen came up that allowed me to use my keyboard arrows to choose "try ubuntu without affecting your system". So I choose that option and got to the desk top but then i had no use of the mouse or the keyboard at all. I then ejected the disc by quickly pushing the power button in the back of the iMAC and once the disk was out was able to restart the computer. Now i am in a black screen that says that there is no bootable drive.I know about the option key at start up, but that is apparently not working because my keyboard is not being recognized

I used a live CD burned onto a DVD-RW and it booted up and worked great. So I installed it using the entire hard drive, Ran Update manager, enabled the driver for the wifi card. Before I was using 10.5 with all recent updates done. A few things don't work. It fails whenever I try to connect my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, CD drive doesn't mount anything, I thought it would bring up the restricted nvidia driver but it doesn't so the video is slow and sketchy.

I really like the Plasmoid called Magic Folder.I looked last year for it for gnome, but there isn't an equivalent. I also searched screenlets, and no luck. Also screenlets seems to have fell out of development... I found out, however, that windows now has the magic folder, and didnt even change the name! Now it is a matter of pride. GNOME MUST HAVE A MAGIC FOLDER!

I want to install Parted Magic on my USB drive from my GParted live Cd. I don't want to install any OS. I have tried the procedure on Parted Magic's site but it hasn't helped.
Note: I am mainly stuck at this step:
Quote:
In Linux, write the Syslinux MBR to the USB drive (this is not needed when you have already a bootable MBR on the USB drive). A copy of mbr.bin is included in the USB version of Parted Magic. It's located in boot/syslinux. Change directory to the root of the USB drive that the Parted Magic files were copied to, and use this command:
cat boot/syslinux/mbr.bin > /dev/sdx
This file is located in this place on my PC as taken from the GParted file manager address bar /media/Leopard/Users/Piyush/Desktop/untitled folder/pmagic-usb-4.8/boot
Ummm... Could anyone write a command for this?

I have a hard disk that I would like to completely remove UBUNTU from. There is no other OS on it. UBUNTU is on all of the HD no unused partitions that I can see or other windows system here at all. I would like to completely remove UBUNTU and remove GRUB also. and be able to use this HDD for a windows system. Most of the threads I have read here in the forum relate to removing ubuntu from a dual OS HDD . There is talk of using partition magic or other utility to remove or change the partitions, but most of them are about a dual OS system, whereas I have an HDD with only ubuntu on it. Does UBUNTU have an uninstall program that I can download? Does partition magic remove the Ubuntu OS? Grub?

The small icon from the top bar which allows me to choose which network I connect to, as has a bluetooth icon that was there. I don't know how it's gone but I've had no success in making it re-appear. Is there something that I could put into a terminal (i.e. a magic spell!) that would make it re-appear.

This morning I bought an Apple wireless keyboard and I got it connected through Blueman. It works like a charm, but I have on problem;
When I log out I can log back in by typing in my password. However, when I restart the computer it seems that bluetooth is not loaded yet and I cannot enter my password. So I have to log in using my wired keyboard, and then disconnect & re-connect to my wireless keyboard using blueman before I am able to use the wireless keyboard.
Is there any way that I can already auto-load bluetooth and connect to my keyboard before I log in?

As i am posting in this forum you might already have guessed that I am a total linux noob, but I am a pretty faster learner. I know a few basic things but I feel like I am stuck with my problem.I want to send the Magic packet (wake on LAN) from my linux machine to another, but I am unsure how to approach this. I have googleed my ass off but I am none the wiser. I found a few forums posts and programs that can do the trick and guides in how to use the programs but I have no idea how to install them. You have to know that my linux machine is a NAS server and has therefore only Konsole access (no GUI). As I said before I am pretty much a noob

I was upgrading from 9.X (can't remember what X is) to I believe it was 10.2 (ok, this happened over a month ago and I just haven't had the time to run after it), and lost power. Obviously doesn't sound good, right? Now when I boot I get the message "alloc magic is broken at 0xaff2c150". I have no idea if this error message is indicative of the whole problem, or what, but I can't get back to my system. I would really rather not lose my work.

I am trying to remotely wake up my computer. I am using the wakeonlan tool as follows wakeonlan -i 146.x.x.x 00:0f:.I have used wireshark on the remote computer and verified it was getting the magic pack. wireshark sees the packet, and immediately the remote computer sends an ICMP dest. unreachable (port unreachable) packet back, although I assume that is normal. On the remote computer, I used ethtool so I am enable to verify that suports wake-on is set to "g" or magic packet.
I believe that wake-on-lan is enabled in the bios. I have a hp dc5000, so I turned on S5 wake on lan in the bios. However, the computer does not wake up.My assumption is that once the computer is off, the router doesn't know where to send to packet because that ip is not there anymore. Does that make any sense? What other troubleshooting steps can I take? I don't have control over the routers though.

I am having trouble getting a certain program to work. It's called Magic Set Editor and it has a linux version. It seems to install fine, but when I press the link to run the program it always says there is no file type associated with this program. Here is the site to download it: [URL]. I've tried the full and reduced versions, and I tried building it from source, which I have no idea how to do. I am using Fedora 10. Also, I've gone to their linux guy and he tried to help, but has never used Fedora, and so nothing he said worked.
