I want to install Parted Magic on my USB drive from my GParted live Cd. I don't want to install any OS. I have tried the procedure on Parted Magic's site but it hasn't helped.

Yesterday, i just got my Fedora live DVD. When i tried to boot it from my CD/DVD ROM drive, it seems to hang when it's just about to finish loading. From one of the prevous threads, one of the members said that i had to have 2 partitions on my HD. Currently, i already have 2 partitions. Can someone give me advice on what to do??

View 3 Replies View Relatedi feel like this is a stupid question as i have seen many different ways to make a debian live cd, but the only way i understand is remastersys.i am trying to make a snapshot of my own debian unstable (sid) to be capable of re-distribution. remastersys will ONLY work on ubuntu, lenny, and squeeze.if anyone knows of any relatively simple tools i could use or could write an easy how too that would be very much appreciated. i am attempting to stray away from ubuntu and ubuntu based distros and use debian instead, although i cant find any distribution based on debian that i really like (maybe linux mint debian edition based on debian testing), but i really want the software right out of unstable (sid) and i would like to be able to make a distribute-able snapshot for myself and others that may be interested. (xfce + compiz + others, hopefully plymouth, out of the box). i have made some very good headway on this, but i dont know how to make a live cd out of an installed system without remastersys.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAlright so I'm currently in the process of trying to transfer a wubi install of ubuntu to an actual partition using LVPM. I need to use unetbootin with parted magic mounted (not sure if that's the right term) to my hard disk rather than a bootable flash drive. So I set everything up, downloaded parted magic ISO, ran unetbootin and selected the file everything installed smoothly. I then restart my computer and unetbootin is indeed in the boot list but when I select it, it remains at a black screen. I left it at the black screen for about ten minutes and nothing happened. I've tried a few times and nothing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI created two debian bootable pendrive with the newest and basic commands: CP debian.iso and SYNC. When I tried to restoring the pendrive GPARTED sees only few space and is unable to perform any operation on the hidden partition as well in Windows 7.
CFDISK is able to see the partitions but is unable to write anything, just deleting. After deleted any partion GPARTED enconters a wrong block size so is unable to perform any changes.
Thus the only way I found to restoring the pendrive is delete the partion with CFDISK and then formatting the pendrive in Windows, where did I do wrong?
I've spent a good part of the day wrestling with replacing the grub background image. I did my homework and over the past few days read every thread and suggested link I could find on this forum. I had a clear idea of what needed to be done. Spacefun had quite a laugh at my expense! It was not fun at all. First, I put images in /usr/share/images/desktop-base and made changes in /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme to point to the image I wanted to use. Yes, I updated grub but spacefun had some sort of deathgrip on the setting.
So I threw an image in /boot/grub. Well, Grub found that and spacefun was gone but there was no background image when it booted - only a black background! At this point, I just surrendered and replaced spacefun-grub.png with the image I wanted and it finally worked. There are links in /usr/share/images/desktop-base/ that point to /etc/alternatives/ which in turn point back to the original file in /usr/share/images/desktop-base/ which I think may be the root of the problem but I didn't just want to start deleting links willy-nilly. Does anyone think that might just set things straight? This whole process is several steps backwards in customizing ability from what it was with grub and GDM a few years ago. This is NOT progress!
I have a Knoppix DVD-ROM. I also have its image as k.iso at the second partition of HDD of my laptop. I use the DVD-ROM and write at the boot prompt the cheat code:
knoppix bootfrom=/dev/sda5/k.iso
I also have a folder Knoppix made during bootprompt by using the cheatcode knoppix tohd=/dev/sda5 and I can use the following cheatcode while booting from the DVD-ROM, like knoppix fromhd=/dev/sda5My laptop runs Debian Lenny 5.0.4, installed in the first partition of my HDD.
Can Grub be configured to boot from the Knoppix k.iso image, or the knoppix folder, which I use to use the Knoppix OS, so that I am freed from using the DVD, when I want to use the knoppix system?
The problem is when I boot from the lubuntu CD & select Try Lubuntu or Install Lubuntu the computer hangs. Xubuntu 10.04 was aready installed & I could easily boot to it. I thought may be some partition table error is causing that issue & I deleted all the existing partitions with Parted Magic Cd in Console Mode.
NB: When I tried to boot to the Parted Magic graphical session the PC hanged then too.I am totally confused. Cant understand what is going wrong here. I am now left with a broken system.

I have a Debian Jessie 32 bits machine with standard partitions : one EFI, one for the root system and a swap.
I did a dd image backup of it hard drive thinking i would be easy to restore it or clone to another device... but it seems it is not that simple ! My PC won't boot : no bootable drive found !
I did the same once with a 64 bit Debian Jessie which i fixed using an ubuntu live CD with boot-repair, but here with the 32 bits version it doesn't work : it keeps saying i have an EFI incompatible partition and i should use a 64 bits linux...
Note : i boot-repair from a 64 bits ubuntu live cd. Should i use a 32 bits version ? Because i can"t make a 32 bits Debian live CD to boot, usb key won't show up in boot options (32 bits install CD works fine)
I ha read some things and tried some others but nothing works

When Debian OS is booted in to memory, this is a clean boot, because with the iso on the DVD can not be tampered with, but someone who has hacked your modem, can target your IP and can place a keylogger in the RAM memory, side-by-side of the OS, does not necessarily need to know zero-day-exploits of Debian (if there are any). Is that correct?
Moreover the trick, once known and automated, can be repeated every time you boot from the Debian Live DVD?
Ok so I wanted to try out Debian, so I got the wheezy live image (gnome) via torrent. The problem is after I write the image to the USB, the computer cannot boot from it. It doesn't even display the USB in the boot menu. I've tried many ways of writing the image like dd, powerISO, UUI, imagewrite (not sure if that was the correct name) etc. Strangely enough, it works on a virtual machine via Plop Boot Manager, but not my actual PC.

I've seen many bootsplash projects..but most of them are broken. I tried splashy (which is available on the repo), but by the time it loads, my system is already booted, so I don't really like it. note that I don't have any Xorg server installed.
On a new Lenovo Thinkpad T450s, I encounter the following issue: The USB drive containing live CD image ("burned" to the USB using mkusb tool --> which in turn uses dd) cannot be booted from the UEFI boot loader. I have to reconfigure the hardware (BIOS) setup to support both UEFI & legacy system, and with first boot priority given to legacy (BIOS-style) booting. But if I do this, I don't see the UEFI system in the /sys/firmware/uefi directory. I am using the 64-bit live CD image (debian-live-8.0.0-amd64-xfce-desktop.iso).

I am attempting to get Debian+Mate running on my laptop, with no success. I have not yet used Linux, but I do wish to climb out of the Window, and the Live session seems ideal to get a feel for Debian before finally abandoning Windows.
I got the Debian+Mate ISO file from the Debian website, and created a bootable USB stick. (Note : I have done this several times, getting new ISOs, and using Unetbootin, Universal USB Installer, and Linux Live installer; the result is always the same.)
When I boot the USB drive, all appears good at first. I get to the Debian (or Mate?) screen which is a pale jade green with a white squiggle in the middle region, with a panel at the top; this shows at left three options - applications, places, and system; and at right the correct time, a sound symbol,the wifi symbol, and a battery indicator. At the left of the screen in vertical arrangement there are 4 icons labelled computer, users home, install Debian Sid, and trash. On the bottom panel, at left there is a "button" for "click to hide all windows & show desktop", and at right 4 squares for workspaces.
There are also (temporary) windows that inform me that the battery is no good (I run on mains), and that there is no wifi connection established. These windows disappear in a minute or so.
The cursor moves ok. The only actions that it creates are the information drop-down texts that tell me what the headings mean - e.g. no connections when I hover the cursor above the wifi connections symbol.
But whatever I attempt to do - selecting any of the options - nothing happens. Everything except the cursor appears to be dead.
The machine that I am using is an old laptop that I use as a second computer. It has a SIS Mirage 3 graphics engine, which I gather may be a problem. I also tried the same procedure with my fairly modern ASUS laptop (NVidia graphics) with exactly the same results; it seems that NVidia graphics may also be problematic, judging from some posts on the web. I have also tried Debian+Cinnamon, again with the same outcome.
As you probably know Debian LIVE ISOs is not (U)EFI bootable since there is no EFI bootloader on them. I need to boot usb for uefi mode...

The binary.img was created.
Now if I try to boot from this image using qemu, I get a message "No bootable device"
If I check this main partition using gparted, the flag is "lba" instead of "boot".
Even doesn't work if try to change to "boot".
How to solve this problem?
