May 4, 2010I upgraded to 10.04 on my Macbook and everything was working fine. Now, my keyboard isn't working at all. I didn't do any system tweaks or anything.

Ubuntu :: (10.04 Lucid Lynx) USB Keyboard Not Working?
May 17, 2010I've got a generic USB keyboard (not wireless) that works perfectly on WinXP, the BIOS and the GRUB boot menu. As soon as Ubuntu 10.04 loads, however,he keyboard stops working. Tried different ports, still nothing. I haven't tested on previous versions of Ubuntu or other Linux distros. A PS/2 keyboard works great on Ubuntu except the one I have is broken, hence why I'm using this USB keyboard. Any ideas on how to fix this? It's the only thing holding me back from leaving Windows for good. lsusb:Quote:

Apr 30, 2010I have created a partition through Boot Camp, downloaded the 64 bit Intel installer for PC and Mac, verified the checksum, burned a CD from its image (on the second try), but when I try to boot up from that CD, rEFIt refuses because of a "legacy" problem. I assumed it would be a live CD, from which I could do the installation; am I wrong, is there another way to install from it? My MacBook Pro 5,3 is the one exception to having its own installation page.

Jun 1, 2010I have just updated ubuntu from koala to lynx via reloading the synaptic repositories, and after having restarting, to boot into lynx, found that my laptop's keyboard doesnt work, none of the keys are reponding at all, which is odd as I have never had this problem with my laptop before.. I thought this might have been a (semi) common problem with lynx, but after a few searches, have not found anything similar to this problem..Does anybody have any idea what might be the problem here, I can still use the laptop to do things via the mouse and even access the internet and grab text and paste it for things, but obviously would like my keyboard back (i didnt write this on my laptop!) I am 99.9% sure it is not a hardware problem

Ubuntu / Apple :: Turning Off Macbook Keyboard Backlight?
May 30, 2010Just upgraded to 10.04. Everything seems to still work on my Macbook, with a bonus being the buttons to modify the keyboard backlight brightness seem to work now.
However, the only caveat is that I can't seem to turn off the backlight. Pressing the dim button all the way to off just seems to reset to full brightness. Even if I set the brightness to 1 (almost off), the backlight seems to reset itself to full brightness at seemingly random times.
Running this command used to turn it off, but now doesn't work:

Is this a bug? How do I turn off the keyboard backlight?

Apr 6, 2011I can't seem to get any of the alt-keys from my regular keys. (i.e. alt+(any key) does not give me the output that it normally should. For instance, I can't make the "does not equal" sign by pressing alt+= (alt+equal sign))Is there any way to enable all the keys in the MBP keyboard? Or am I just stuck without my dear alt-keys?

May 8, 2010I installed the bleeding edge drivers using a guide I was referred to from the wiki, when I was having intermittent wifi connections. It worked well for about two days, but now it's just as intermittent as before, and it works just fine in OSX and on other machines, so I'm thinking I need to change the driver.
How do I go about installing another driver? Which ones have you had luck with for a MacBook Pro Santa Rosa 3,1 running lucid under 64 bits?

Jul 25, 2010I was running a small LAMP setup on my homenetwork with Ubuntu 9.4. Every thing was working OK. I then upgraded to 10.04 and now my php does get executed. Apache is still working, but I suspect something in the config has changed, but I don't know what.When I try to load a .php file, the resultant web page is just blank, if I have a .html file with php code in it, the page is not rendered from the point where the php starts. I have checked /var/log/apache2/error.log and there is nothing in that file.

Jul 29, 2011Although I had 11.04 running smoothly on my Macbook 4,1 (OS X 10.5) since it came out, I never bothered to actually test the iSight camera. So I fired up Cheese, but it claimed that it could not detect any webcam installed. gstreamer-properties does not list iSight either.I followed this article step by step: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Ma...am/AppleiSight. After installing the firmware I pulled from my OS X partition, neither Cheese nor gstreamer picked up on my camera. As a matter of fact, I investigated further and realized that /dev/video0 does not even exist.The firmware seems to be recognized by the kernel, according to dmesg:Quote:

Ubuntu / Apple :: Bluetooth Keyboard On Lucid/Mac Mini?
May 15, 2010I'm using an Apple bluetooth keyboard, model A1016 the one with a white bottom inside clear plastic. The machine is a Mac Mini (2,1) and I also have an Apple bluetooth mouse. The mouse works fine on Ubuntu 10.04. The keyboard has issues.
When I add the keyboard using the bluetooth applet, I find that I can't assign a specified PIN. I have to use automatic PIN, and then type the random number presented. That works until I reboot the machine.
After reboot the bluetooth applet menu shows both the mouse (connected) and the keyboard (not connected). If I tell it to connect the keyboard, nothing happens. The only thing I can do is delete the keyboard, re-add it, with a new random PIN.

Jun 14, 2010I set up my Mac Mini to dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu. I started with Windows only, and allowed it to rewrite the partition table (GPT/MBR). When I tried to install Ubuntu, it didn't see Windows until I used Gdisk to delete the GPT portion. Then it recognized the Windows partition and installed Ubuntu as per normal. Now when I boot, I get GRUB and the option to boot Ubuntu or Windows 7. The only problem is that the USB keyboard (Aluminum or standard PC keyboard) doesn't work until an OS is loaded.
Is this an EFI problem? I'm starting to think that EFI is required for USB keyboard support at bootup since it replaces the BIOS functionality. Is this even remotely accurate? Did I mess things up by not going the rEFIt route? I'm not sure what I can do at this juncture as I can only boot into Ubuntu.
I could install OS X, rEFIt, then Windows and Ubuntu, keeping rEFIt as the boot loader, but if there's an easy solution I'd like to avoid that. More importantly, I'd like to understand what's going on.

Sep 20, 2010I recently installed Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. It is working well, but Movie Player does not work, and Dragon Player plays videos/movies but with no audio. VLC works fine. how to either remove Movie Player and Dragon Player or make them work. I tried apt-get remove mplayer but that doesn't work. If not that, I wonder if the default media player can be changed to VLC, e.g., when you click any video it will start to play using VLC?

May 6, 2010My keboard was working perfectly (backlight, inverse FN) until upgrade from karmic to lucid. Now neither backlight neither inverting FN (in pommed.conf) works- backlight is always off, FN is default OSX-like.
Trackpad worked "almost superb" (missing click with one finger and drag with another!!) but after upgrade (=no mode udev) event number changes with every reboot so I cannot put configuration based on /dev/input/eventX to Xorg.conf. How can I make it have the same number after reboot now?

Oct 9, 2010I've been running Ubuntu Lucid for six months now without problems. Last night my keyboard suddenly stopped working in any applications under Gnome. Rebooting didn't help. Mouse still works fine.But the keyboard still works fine when typing in my password, and if I start KDE instead it also works OK. So it doesn't seem to be hardware failure.I see from googling that others have had similar problems, but most seem to have been on installation, and involved either VMWare or USB keyboards. I'm not using either of those.When it broke I was trying to build PyCairo into an alternative installation of Python2.5, don't know if this is relevant, if some key package got somehow corrupted.
