Ubuntu / Apple :: Iphone 4 Unable To Mount In 11.04
Aug 19, 2011
I have an iPhone 4 (iOS 4.3.5, factory unlocked, not jailbroken) and I wish to use it with Ubuntu 11.04.
However, I get the following error when I plug in my iPhone via USB:
Quote:
I tried this:
Code:
And rebooted. I still get the same error. My goal is to be able to use iFuse (unless there's another program which anyone recommends using for iPhone).

So I have ubuntu 10.04 installed on an ibook g4 1.2 ghz powerpc with 256 mb ram. Yeah I know kinda funny given all the lack of future support but it works nonetheless. I can't get my 1st gen iphone (3.1.3) to mount. It is however recognized from the cli Bus 001 Device 002: ID 05ac:1290 Apple, Inc. iPhone what should i do? I have a partition of mac os x 10.4.11 installed which also doesn't recognize the device (leopard is required).
I have all the modules and mobile device libraries installed from ubunutu software center but still I can't get it to mount. Are there any commands i should try? I'm still a complete novice at the command line.

I just installed Linux Mint Debian Edition on my friend's laptop. The biggest problem is getting his iPhone 4 to mount. On libimobiledevice.org it shows a cool video of a guy managing his iPhone with Linux thanks to libimobiledevice. libimobiledevice.org also says libimobiledevice supports the iPhone 4. But when he plugs it in, he gets an error that says:
Quote: Unable to mount location: Unhandled Lockdown error (-5) It's a serious issue and needs to be resolved ASAP. ***EDIT*** If this is a hardware topic, any mods can feel free to move it.

I was quite pleased to see that Ubuntu 11.04 now loads and reads the contents of my iPhone 3GS.
(Once I connect the phone to my netbook, Shotwell and Banshee would recognize the cell-phone and give me options to manage my data.Alas, that joy has been very short-lived. As of the most recent updates, something appears to have 'broken' this functionality. [TODAY's DATE: Monday, 30 May, 2011],
Now when I connect the phone Nautilus fails to mount it, and I consistently get the same error message:
"DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error. NoReply:Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)"

"Unable to mount iPhone DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Mountpoint Already registered" The above error appears upon plugging in my iPhone 3GS using a USB connection on Ubuntu 10.04. Attempting to transfer tracks to the iPhone (using Rythmbox) results in this error: "Error Transferring Track Error while getting peer-to-peer dbus connection: The name :1.140 was not provided by any .service files"
The interesting part is that I can unmount the iPhone get back into Nautilus and the iPhone icon will still be there on the left side pane. Unmounting from Nautilus does not get rid of the iPhone icon until I physically disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone. Clicking on the unmount/eject icon next to the iPhone icon in Nautilus removes the unmount/eject icon, but it does not remove the iPhone from the left side pane. My other USB devices, such as the 2TB external iOmega hard drive, exhibit identical behavior. I'm guessing that this is a gvfs bug since it appears very similar to other gvfs bugs that I've found from a couple of years ago. I am using gvfs 1.6.2-1ubuntu1~ppa1.
My iPhone used to sync work perfectly using this same Ubuntu PC as late as November 2010. There were no changes made to the iPhone, only updates to Ubuntu -- I'd like to emphasize updates; no new software was installed on this Ubuntu PC.

Running Ubuntu 10.04 and I'm trying to re-install Mac OSX back onto my MBP. I'm running competely off of GRUB and I have no other partitions for any other OSs running. Popped in my MAC OS CD and came up with this error.
Unable to mount location
Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with:
mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-prtected, mounting read-only
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sr0, missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so
How should I go about with removing Ubuntu, and re-installing MAC OSX?

I am trying to pair my new iPhone 4 with my rev5,5 MBP running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
Using Blueman I am unable to pair the two devices. The iPhone 4 shows up and I am prompted to pair either with a random passkey or a custom one. The problem is, the passkeys don't match. For instance, if I enter 1234 as the custom passkey - a random 6-digit number is displayed on the iPhone!
Is it possible to pair 10.04 with the iPhone 4? I wish to use bluetooth tethering...

My iPhone is recognized by Rhthymbox, but not Amarok. When I plug in my iPhone to my laptop via usb, the mount icon appears on the desktop. I can start up Rhthymbox and that program recognizes the iPhone no problem. However, when I start up Amarok, not only does it not recognize the device, but it also REMOVES the mount icon from the desktop. If I start up Rhthymbox again, the device is unrecognized. I have the unplug the iPhone and then plug it back it for the mount icon to come back.
I am running ubuntu 10.10. iPhone 3G with firmware 3.1.2. Amarok 2.3.1
Not sure if it makes a difference or not, but I jail broke this iPhone about 6 months ago, or whenever they came out with firmware 3.1.2, as I have not updated the firmware since.
I just want to get my tunes going on my newly installed ubuntu linux...

I have my iPhone synced with iTunes like the rest of the world. I played music music from my iPhone with rythmbox, nd now iTunes doesn't know that my iPhone is even there, and therefor won't sync. Would mounting it to Ubuntu have anything to do with that?

I've successfully jailbroken my girlfriend's iPhone 3gs.
The phone had no service. She switched to a cheap local-only carrier which did not do iPhones, so her current phone is a cheap blister pack phone.
Now she wants to put the iPhone on T-Mobile. The T-Mobile guys want it jailbroken and unlocked first. I got it jailbroken by tethering it. Now I need 2 apps on there and I have no service so I can't get them there.
Repeat, this is NOT the NO SERVICE bug that happens when you switch service on an otherwise active phone. The contract has been expired for months, so there is no fix for it.
I have joined my wireless N network, but to no avail.
I have at my disposal a Mac, an Ubuntu box and a Vista box.
I also tried jailbreaking my iphone but its firmware is too new and it won't break. Maybe tomorrow. I thought maybe I could break mine, download some apps, transfer them to some PC and then move them to the GFs phone. That didn't work either.

When my Iphone had the 4.2.1 firmware it mounted just fine with Ubuntu, OK sure it took a download of libimobiledevice1 and some other libraries but it worked, and sync'd just fine with Rhythmbox. But, as all manufacturers do, they have released a superior new OS for the phone which fixes all those annoying little bug. I have read from 4.3.2 they changed the itunes database version to an updated one. Now this is fine if you have a windows or mac machine running the latest version of itunes but if like all of us here you have an Ubuntu machine for a very valid reason... i.e you wanted a better operating system that wasnt going to cost the earth.
well, you are screwed as they have locked the third part access to the device's itunes library. I have followed long procedures trying to hack into the phone, modifying certain files, creating a hashfile and dropping this into a system folder to fool the phone into thinking it has the 4.2.1 database still but to no avail. Now my iphone is jailbroken, for the very same reasons as to why have an ubuntu machine, a good peice of hardware with good software that i can customise to run how i see fit, this error is the same with my friends non jaibroken phone and my wifes newly updated iopd..
Surely someone out there who has an ipod, iphone 3gs who are running 4.3.2 or higher has figured out how to fix this annoying "update" problem. The phone mounts fine and i can see a documents drive and the main iphone itself, so it is being recognised but im getting errors when trying ti access the phone in ANY linux media software... They all see the phone but cant recognise the database.

I found a script online to mount the iphone with gtkpod iPod manager but still could not mount the iPhone as it said certain files weren't in my media file. Anyway laptop was perfect last night when I closed down.
Started up today with the message "the disk drive for /media/iPod is not ready yet or not present" and gives me the options: continue to wait - which does Nothing, press s to skip mounting which you hear the drums and then crashes or m for manual recovery- not sure what to do when I get here.

I have an iPhone 3GS that was mounting a couple of weeks ago but now does not. Looking in /mnt I see a folder for the phone but the folder is empty. Phone is listed when I perform
Code:
steveneddy@machine:~$ mount
/dev/sda1 on / type ext4 (rw,errors=remount-ro)
proc on /proc type proc (rw,noexec, nosuid, nodev)
none on /sys type sysfs (rw,noexec, nosuid, nodev)
none on /sys/fs/fuse/connections type fusectl (rw)
none on /sys/kernel/debug type debugfs (rw)
none on /sys/kernel/security type securityfs (rw)
none on /dev type devtmpfs (rw,mode=0755)
[Code].....
Also of note - I took a couple of photos off of the phone at work using an XP machine - just browsing the folder in Explorer, no iTunes. I believe this is where the trouble started. I will monitor this thread the best I can through the week and weekend - I will do my best to post any terminal output or commands at the earliest possible opportunity.

I have a machine with a fresh install of fc14. When I first created the machine about 3 weeks ago I could attache my iPhone 3GS and FC14 (gnome) would detect it and I could use shotwell and rhythmbox fine. Ya!
Now as of about 1.5 weeks ago, when I plug in my phone I get a pop up with : Unable to mount Brian's iPhone DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus) dmesg doesn't show any errors, just that an iPhone was attached. Is this just me or are others seeing this? Any ideas as to what might be wrong?

Now that I got WPA working on my iBook I'm looking at upgrading RAM and possibly the HDD. I'm not really happy with the heat generated by the HDD. I'm interested in what others may have done for this problem. Is there room in there to mount a fan? Can someone could recommend a cooler running Hard drive? (I'd go with a SSD if I could afford it.)

I wanted to access my Ubuntu partitions on my OS X side.
First things first, I downloaded MacFuse from: [url] Then, I went to [url]
And got their software. From there I mounted the .DMG files and ran the installers. I was able to get all of the software installed and running with no reboot required. Then I loaded the MacFuse control panel, enabled beta, and updated. NOTE: I am unsure if you need the beta for this to work as I did not try without it! Upon the completion of the update, I fired up terminal.
Now, I needed to know exactly which partition my /home/ was located on, so I typed:
Code:
From this, and my basic knowledge of how I setup my Ubuntu partitions, I was able to tell that my 68 GB disk, disk0s4, was my Ubuntu /Home. Then I created a directory in my /Volumes folder to mount the EXT partition to by typing:
Code:
Now that I knew what the disk was and had the all software installed, all I needed to do was mount disk0s4. This is accomplished with:
Code:
Then, I went into the Finder and saw a volume on the left side of the window called "disk0s4". In there are all my files from my home directory of Ubuntu that I can easily access. Great success!
The system that all of this was done on is a Dell Min 10v dual booting between OS X 10.6.6 and Ubuntu 10.10.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 running Ubuntu v10.04 with a wireless card.My desktop is a Dell Optiflex running WinXP.The desktop is connected via ethernet cable to a Linksys wireless router. Certain folders on the desktop are set for sharing. Up until early last week I was able to access the desktop folders from the laptop with no issues.Suddenly I am now getting this error "Unable to mount location Failed to mount Windows share" whenever I try to access the desktop folders from the laptop.I suspect an upgrade is the culprit, but not sure.
