I just installed ubuntu because the newer versions were not working for me. So I installed 7.10 and there is no repositories that are still up. Is there any repositories that I could add from the newer ones or other distro repositories.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am running Suse 11.1 64bit, with KDE, recently I received a pop up on my screen, "something about update problems", I used Yast 2 and selected online Update and it couldn't find updates for Nvidia and froze at that point. I dis-enabled that repository and refreshed all of the remaining Repositories individually and it seemed to work. I then went to the repositories listing and selected "Add" and selected "community" repositories and received the following: WARNING Unable to download list of repositories or no repositories defined. What is my problem? How do I acquire the list of community repositories? I can live with out the Nvidia repository for now but would eventually like to get it back.

I have set proxy for yum so that the packages that are not available on local mirror can be downloaded from other mirrors. But then i don't know how to set no proxy for my local server. Consequently it is not using my local mirror at all. Tell me how to set no proxy for the local mirror. I want my local mirror because it's damn fast. Neither Ubuntu's Unity or KDE respond to the function keys on a regular Apple USB keyboard. I can plug in a non-Apple keyboard and they work just fine. What needs to be changed or configure so that F1 and company on the Apple keyboard work as on other keyboards?

When I log out I can log back in by typing in my password. However, when I restart the computer it seems that bluetooth is not loaded yet and I cannot enter my password. So I have to log in using my wired keyboard, and then disconnect & re-connect to my wireless keyboard using blueman before I am able to use the wireless keyboard.
Is there any way that I can already auto-load bluetooth and connect to my keyboard before I log in?

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter digging around trying to figure out how to upgrade my local apt-mirror to 10.04, I figured I would share it here so anyone else who does this, can do it with ease. It requires a few steps, and editing a couple files, but the process is relatively painless.This assumes you have an apt-mirror already running on your server. Also it assumes you're using /var/www/ubuntu as your root where all your packages are stored.
The first step is to visit http://changelogs.ubuntu.com and download the meta-release packages. Create a new directory, /var/www/ubuntu/upgrade, and drop the files there.On the client's end, a single file needs to be edited, /etc/update-manager/meta-release. Change the URI's in that file to the URI of your apt-mirror and run your update manager. Your upgrade will start, only asking if you want to change your paths in your sources.list. Agree to it, and the packages will download and configure.

I want to install ubuntu10.10 from customer mirror. such as i copied ubuntu10.10 alternative image to some folder in server 10.1.1.2 and then used pxe to install os. when selecting mirror, i inputted [url]. but i couldn't download file to install automatically, and got following error message in red. however, i inputted "wget [url], i could download the fileA.

Can I download a Linux iso image from a Windows mirror? I don't see any problems, but my IT guy tells me that it just can't happen because a Linux download server uses a different protocol. But, I could be wrong...
View 7 Replies View RelatedI had a thread about installing on a Mac and decided to go the VirtualBox route and everything is running splendidly EXCEPT for the fnmode setting in /sys/module/hid_apple.
The problem is that the directory hid_apple does not exist for me to modify the settings for the apple keyboard. I'm assuming that when installing in VB, Ubu assumed it was a PC. Anyone know of a way to get the keyboard config directories in there so I don't have to hit Fn to do Alt-F2? Also, I tried to create the directory (sudo mkdir) and it returned "Cannot create directory...no such file or directory", but not in so many words.
My requirement is to install Ubuntu SERVER 8.04.3 LTS on a Dell 2550 machine.
Problem.
- Bug in ubuntu (desktop and server) stopping CD install on this hardware platform. It hangs half way through and is something to do with the SCSI CD drive. Lots of stuff on the net about it, but no fix as far as I can see, at least nothing that works for me.
- So, tried boot off CD and then used F6 and added a cdrom-detect/try-usb=true line together with putting a USB with the ISO burnt onto it in the USB port. Still hangs during install (can't see USB perhaps? USB not correctly burnt? Tried many many times though, and eventually gave up at 2am)
- Next tried PXE boot. Now getting somewhere. Ok I installed tftpd32 on my windows machine, and copied the netboot files from the ubuntu site to the tftpd directory. (I dont think this will help me install the server, just the desktop??) Anyway, it booted from the win tftp machine (wahey!), and went through install, BUT when it tried to find the mirror site it couldnt. In fact it couldnt find ANY mirror site. (Internet access from windows and all other PCs on the network is working fine).
So, to ensure I am installing the SERVER version, and to use PXE boot, and to NOT use the internet to download the files (i.e. load them up locally somewhere), what do I do?
i have a complete local ubuntu mirror; nicely kept in sync by apt-mirror. unfortunately, i need to keep some of the old releases as well. [URL].. kindly provides those. with the upcoming end-of-life of intrepid ibex, i would like to move the packages for intrepid on my mirror to the directory i use for the old-releases, without having to download these approximately 30GB from the original server.
is there a way to move distributions in a local mirror? apt-move seems only capable of rearranging the packages in /var/cache/apt/archives/ .
I have all my CDs in FLAC format for playback in my home but like most folks I have a portable.Now, converting my collection to Mp3 fits on my player but its a pain to manually convert each new album. It would be cool to script something that could be run on cron or manually to keep them synced.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a remote drive mounted on my system(ubuntu 10.04 x64), and i have the contents of that drive backed up to dropbox. the problem is, if i unmount the drive, the files disappear from dropbox. is there a way to mirror the contents of the network drive to a localfolder(preferably in such a way that all changes and file deletions are changed on the local folder instantly, but unmounting doesn't delete it all)? It looks like rsync would work, but im not sure how to make it work.

This indicates a serious error, please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bug report.Anyone know the proper way to do this?
I am trying to do a net install. I set up a mirror of lenny using apt-mirror inside a virtual machine on my network using the following guide: [url]
And I changed everything in the guide specifically for Lenny.
I gave the VM bridged networking, and assigned it its own static IP address.
When I attempt do an http install, and point the installer to the address, I get the following error message: choose-mirror[3885]: WARNING **: mirror does not support the specified release (lenny).
In the end, with much gnashing of my teeth, I just started over and created a new 4gb flash. And, as one helper told me, it was truly easier a second go around. Not quick, mind you, but easier Now that I've got my flash somewhat stable, I'd like to know how to make a mirror image 'clone' of this flash to another, just like it. Between my Broadcom drivers, nVidea drivers, updates and flash/java, I've gotten pretty protective of this little flash drive! I've head 'dd' will do it, but, as a newb, is their an application or tool that might make the job easier.
