Ubuntu / Apple :: Apple Keyboard On VirtualBox Ubuntu Guest OS?

Feb 1, 2010

I had a thread about installing on a Mac and decided to go the VirtualBox route and everything is running splendidly EXCEPT for the fnmode setting in /sys/module/hid_apple.

The problem is that the directory hid_apple does not exist for me to modify the settings for the apple keyboard. I'm assuming that when installing in VB, Ubu assumed it was a PC. Anyone know of a way to get the keyboard config directories in there so I don't have to hit Fn to do Alt-F2? Also, I tried to create the directory (sudo mkdir) and it returned "Cannot create directory...no such file or directory", but not in so many words.

Ubuntu / Apple :: Auto-load Apple Wireless Keyboard?

Apr 22, 2010

This morning I bought an Apple wireless keyboard and I got it connected through Blueman. It works like a charm, but I have on problem;

When I log out I can log back in by typing in my password. However, when I restart the computer it seems that bluetooth is not loaded yet and I cannot enter my password. So I have to log in using my wired keyboard, and then disconnect & re-connect to my wireless keyboard using blueman before I am able to use the wireless keyboard.

Is there any way that I can already auto-load bluetooth and connect to my keyboard before I log in?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Unable To Start VirtualBox Kernel Modules - Error Stopping VirtualBox Kernel Modules

Mar 23, 2011

I was trying to install VirtualBox through the YaST > Software Management but it is not working, someone in the forum told me that I have to download the OSE version and do it manual way. Finally I am able to start up VB but not able to use the network connection. Thus I am trying to do this:

/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup. I get this error:

[code]...

When I type dmesg, it shows me a bunch of info which I don't know what should look for. When I type modprobe vboxnetflt, I get the error: FATAL: Error inserting vboxnetflt (/lib/modules/2.6.37.1-1.2-default/updates/vboxnetflt.ko): Invalid module format. what should I do in order to get my VB to be able to connect to the internet?

Ubuntu / Apple :: Installing OS Apple Powerbook G4 Ubuntu?

Mar 14, 2011

I've had a Apple Powerbook G4 for a while now, but being mostly a Windows user I've never used it. I remember when it ran it's native OSX (Which I can't for the life remember) Probably Tiger? Anyways... I tried installing Ubuntu on it about a year and a half ago, the installation was botched and I left it sitting there with no purpose in life. :O

So I've decided to dust the laptop and give it another go. I've progressed a little further with my Linux experience, having installed and tested a few distros and even switching over to Ubuntu 9.10 for about 4 months. Enough of my life story and more to the point.Has anyone installed Ubuntu, or any distro for that matter on the Apple Powerbook G4? I know there are different versions of the G4 and I'm not entirely sure what my version is, It's the 1.6Ghz version with The Nvidia card (Err I think) and extra Wireless card installed. I am not very capable with Mac - After checking Apples website I believe it's the 15inch.

I've read the FAQ thread and will begin trying to install Ubuntu tonight at home, I just wanted some suggestion and some pointers in the right direction. What distro would be most suitable for my hardware? and What is easiest to set up?

I'm fairly sure my laptop has a 64 bit architecture (for example, i have the "lm" flag when i cat the /proc/cpuinfo), so is there a way to convince VB that I have a 64 bit machine? unless there is a better way to find out if my CPU is indeed NOT 64 bit?

Ubuntu :: Fix For Virtualbox Key Authentication?

May 20, 2010

Just thought I'd post this in case anyone else is experiencing the same problem. For awhile now, I have been running VirtualBox which was installed by adding the virtualbox.org repository to my apt sources. Starting sometime yesterday, the Update Manager started complaining about key authentication problems, namely:

Code: W: A error occurred during the signature verification. The repository is not updated and the previous index files will be used.GPG error: http://download.virtualbox.org karmic Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 54422A4B98AB5139[URL]..

W: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. Apparently VirtualBox 3.2 just got released, and it's the first release under the Oracle name (since Oracle's acquisition of Sun). As such, you need to get a new key:

Code:
wget -q http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian/oracle_vbox.asc -O- | sudo apt-key add -
Problem solved. I then promptly upgraded to 3.2...

Ubuntu :: Construct A VM On VirtualBox?

I am wanting to do some experimenting with some virtual machines as well as get to know some of the other distros out there.

I was just wondering if I were to construct a VM on VirtualBox, and then sometime down the road uninstall it when finished. What would be the best way to go about uninstalling as far as completely restoring the space and partition that was being used back to my main partition?

Does Virtualbox automatically do that for you?

Ubuntu :: 10.04 On VirtualBox Crashed?

I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on VirtualBox, installed on top of a Mac so I can learn programming (studying for certification for my job).

Just now, it went black, so I sent the power off signal. However, when I restarted, I keep getting the following error as shown in 01-error.png. When I enter help, it displays following commands shown in 02-error.png

Tried researching the problem myself, and found the following link

However, I am not sure if it applies in my case because this is on a virtual machine. And what am I supposed to mount?

I need to recover data I saved on this VM, re-installation is the very last resort.

Ubuntu :: Can't Create VDI In Virtualbox

Nov 2, 2010

this is for Ubuntu 10.4 i cant create a VDI or anything else beyond that point without root access, however if i open virtualbox with sudo privileges from the terminal(which ive already went through), once i go to open it normally from the launcher in the Applications list those changes arent there. here is the error i get

Code:

Failed to create the hard disk storage test.vdi.
Could not create the directory
'/home/marcus/.VirtualBox/HardDisks' (VERR_ACCESS_DENIED).

[code]....

in 8.04 we use to have an option in the System tab for applying access to non root users, but in 10.4 the only similar option is User Groups, an the only options that seem similar to this issue is "mount user space file systems" and "use virtualbox virtualization solutions" neither of which have any effect. is there a new way to apply non root users with root access in 10.4?

Ubuntu :: Open A CD On VirtualBox

Mar 23, 2011

I made a windows 7 virtual machine. But graphics run like crap.I need to install my motherboard's driver on that virtual machine. But since the virtual machine was created from an iso which was sorted into the CD/DVD device as an iso image; whenever I open the CD device from the virtual machine; it runs the win7 installer. So basically I need one of two things:The virtual machine to recognize if I insert a CD on my CD/DVD hardware. Or to record the .iso image from my motherboard's cd (Which I don't know how to do so)And sort it into the CD/DVD zone of the VirtualBox.I need to install it because I can't even play chesstitans on there. It prompts me some window that tells me that I need Direct3D so basically I need to configure my [attached] graphic card which is pretty good it can run pretty well I just need to configure the motherboard's drivers or something

Hope it's my graphics too, but things go too slow when the virtual machine is up. I probably need more ram or configure the virtual machine to use my rams instead of my hard disk, I'm not even sure if it's using the hard disk or not but I guess so cause everything goes really slow in there. Well not slow as fuq but mmm mouse freezes and teleports suddenly a lilbit. Anyways if you lead me to fix my Ram's usage and setting up my motherboard's drivers on this virtual machine i'm pretty sure it's gonna work.I think it's important to say ubuntu is x64 and win7 is x64 actually my processor is a dual core so the architecture supports it but I don't know if i'm actually asking it to go on x128.

Ubuntu :: 10.10, VirtualBox Non-OSE 4.0.4, And Usb Support?

Mar 27, 2011

I know a lot of discussion has been made about this issue, but I cannot seem to find an answer that works. I have used VirtualBox for a few years and just adding the user to group vboxusers used to work. Before that I had to add the user to usbusers or something like that. Now niether completely work.I say completely, because the only usb device available for use is my printer nothing else. Here is what I have done: added 'user' to the group vboxusers (gave me usb printer access but nothing else)

-attempted an old fix involving mounting /proc/dev/usb/ (or something like that) and get an error that that file does not exist ran virtualbox with sudo with full functionality (just to see)

I swear I was using this about 6 months ago with no issue. I also have installed extensions pack, and need to say I have tried every forum suggestion I could find before coming here.
