I am wanting to do some experimenting with some virtual machines as well as get to know some of the other distros out there.
I was just wondering if I were to construct a VM on VirtualBox, and then sometime down the road uninstall it when finished. What would be the best way to go about uninstalling as far as completely restoring the space and partition that was being used back to my main partition?
I am trying to construct a script to use with pacman so I can stream line the process for my wife who is not as command line savy. The script below does not execute the second case statement however the same line works fine in the shell which I launched the script from.
Can someone recommend piece parts construct a reliable green server?
I am thinking: -Case with hot swapable drives, and energy efficient power supply -SSD harddrive for 5900 RPM drive -low power CPU, but one with a decent amount of power, IE. 2.0ghz dual core or better.
I am trying to construct a quick regex that will search for six lines of text without a clear line break between them. It only needs to search, not replace, as I will be using in gEdit (with regex plugin) anyway.
It's for editing subtitle files. The video player I will be using them on can only cope with 3-line subtitles, so I just need to edit any in the srt file that contain four or more. There won't be many so I can do it manually. For example:
26 00:01:47,357 --> 00:01:49,359 a motivated business professional with clearly defined goals.
[Code].....
but .* seems to mean "any character, or none", so that doesn't work. My experience of regular expressions is limited, but I do know they are very powerful when used correctly!
I'm still a but confused about the standard way of removing it for left-associative operators: [URL] Especially about how to construct an AST from it by executing a peice of code for every nonterminal matched. And I'm still not totally convinced that it will be left-associative, I just barely understand it. Also, how would you remove left-recursion for something like this:
Code: expr ::= expr "(" param_list ")" | other stuff...?
my error when trying to run a VB (Virtualbox). Error as copied from error box. install the virtualbox-ose-modules package for your kernel and execute 'modprobe vboxdrv' as root. VBox status code: -1908 (VERR_VM_DRIVER_NOT_INSTALLED).

I get this when trying to launch a VB after making one with wizzard.
Observed on two host systems both with openSUSE 11.3 32 bit using ext4: When a big files, in this case a 1.2 GB and a 1.7 GB is copied from DVD, usb harddrive or shared folder into a Windows 7 32 bit guest system, the copied file is corrupted. The md5sum has changed and until the guest system has been rebooted successive md5sum tests on the same file comes up with various results... After a reboot md5sum tests show consistent results, but a sum different from the original file.
I was trying to install VirtualBox through the YaST > Software Management but it is not working, someone in the forum told me that I have to download the OSE version and do it manual way. Finally I am able to start up VB but not able to use the network connection. Thus I am trying to do this:
/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup. I get this error:
[code]...
When I type dmesg, it shows me a bunch of info which I don't know what should look for. When I type modprobe vboxnetflt, I get the error: FATAL: Error inserting vboxnetflt (/lib/modules/2.6.37.1-1.2-default/updates/vboxnetflt.ko): Invalid module format. what should I do in order to get my VB to be able to connect to the internet?
I have Ubuntu as my main OS, and virtualbox running Windows7 as a guest. I ahve just install xampp, but when i go to run apache2 it will not startup ... I am only wanting to use and access apache on the guest OS, as i use the guest OS for development ...
how to install Sun VirtualBox? I have tried it three different ways and it fails on all. When I use the terminal to install it, the terminal fails to install any of the required packages. Have researched, but to no avail. It would be nice if there was just a single (maybe .deb) file to install. Sheesh, installing software in Ubuntu is so complicated!
Dowloaded 10.04 beta 2 64 bit iso and was trying to install it into a VM. Upon boot however is comes up with something like "cant install it on your 32bit machine". I'm fairly sure my laptop has a 64 bit architecture (for example, i have the "lm" flag when i cat the /proc/cpuinfo), so is there a way to convince VB that I have a 64 bit machine? unless there is a better way to find out if my CPU is indeed NOT 64 bit?
Just thought I'd post this in case anyone else is experiencing the same problem. For awhile now, I have been running VirtualBox which was installed by adding the virtualbox.org repository to my apt sources. Starting sometime yesterday, the Update Manager started complaining about key authentication problems, namely:
Code: W: A error occurred during the signature verification. The repository is not updated and the previous index files will be used.GPG error: http://download.virtualbox.org karmic Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 54422A4B98AB5139[URL]..
W: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. Apparently VirtualBox 3.2 just got released, and it's the first release under the Oracle name (since Oracle's acquisition of Sun). As such, you need to get a new key:
Code: wget -q http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian/oracle_vbox.asc -O- | sudo apt-key add - Problem solved. I then promptly upgraded to 3.2...
I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on VirtualBox, installed on top of a Mac so I can learn programming (studying for certification for my job).
Just now, it went black, so I sent the power off signal. However, when I restarted, I keep getting the following error as shown in 01-error.png. When I enter help, it displays following commands shown in 02-error.png
Tried researching the problem myself, and found the following link
[URL]
However, I am not sure if it applies in my case because this is on a virtual machine. And what am I supposed to mount?
I need to recover data I saved on this VM, re-installation is the very last resort.
this is for Ubuntu 10.4 i cant create a VDI or anything else beyond that point without root access, however if i open virtualbox with sudo privileges from the terminal(which ive already went through), once i go to open it normally from the launcher in the Applications list those changes arent there. here is the error i get
Code:
Failed to create the hard disk storage test.vdi. Could not create the directory '/home/marcus/.VirtualBox/HardDisks' (VERR_ACCESS_DENIED).

in 8.04 we use to have an option in the System tab for applying access to non root users, but in 10.4 the only similar option is User Groups, an the only options that seem similar to this issue is "mount user space file systems" and "use virtualbox virtualization solutions" neither of which have any effect. is there a new way to apply non root users with root access in 10.4?
I made a windows 7 virtual machine. But graphics run like crap.I need to install my motherboard's driver on that virtual machine. But since the virtual machine was created from an iso which was sorted into the CD/DVD device as an iso image; whenever I open the CD device from the virtual machine; it runs the win7 installer. So basically I need one of two things:The virtual machine to recognize if I insert a CD on my CD/DVD hardware. Or to record the .iso image from my motherboard's cd (Which I don't know how to do so)And sort it into the CD/DVD zone of the VirtualBox.I need to install it because I can't even play chesstitans on there. It prompts me some window that tells me that I need Direct3D so basically I need to configure my [attached] graphic card which is pretty good it can run pretty well I just need to configure the motherboard's drivers or something
Hope it's my graphics too, but things go too slow when the virtual machine is up. I probably need more ram or configure the virtual machine to use my rams instead of my hard disk, I'm not even sure if it's using the hard disk or not but I guess so cause everything goes really slow in there. Well not slow as fuq but mmm mouse freezes and teleports suddenly a lilbit. Anyways if you lead me to fix my Ram's usage and setting up my motherboard's drivers on this virtual machine i'm pretty sure it's gonna work.I think it's important to say ubuntu is x64 and win7 is x64 actually my processor is a dual core so the architecture supports it but I don't know if i'm actually asking it to go on x128.
I know a lot of discussion has been made about this issue, but I cannot seem to find an answer that works. I have used VirtualBox for a few years and just adding the user to group vboxusers used to work. Before that I had to add the user to usbusers or something like that. Now niether completely work.I say completely, because the only usb device available for use is my printer nothing else. Here is what I have done: added 'user' to the group vboxusers (gave me usb printer access but nothing else)
-attempted an old fix involving mounting /proc/dev/usb/ (or something like that) and get an error that that file does not exist ran virtualbox with sudo with full functionality (just to see)
I swear I was using this about 6 months ago with no issue. I also have installed extensions pack, and need to say I have tried every forum suggestion I could find before coming here.
First off, I don't know whether this is a Ubuntu error or a Virtualbox error or what, so I put this in General I installed Ubuntu 10.10 in a VirtualBox 4.0.4 VM. It all went well, and I set everything up, and customized Ubuntu- then shut the VM down. But I just booted the thing up, and I'm back at the Try/Install Ubuntu Screen.
I apologize that i need this SOOO baby fed to me, but heres the deal, i need a this command ran at startup. AS ROOT. "$sudo virtualbox --startvm xp" this starts a vm of xp that has my magic jack perfectly config'd
no matter what i try, it will NOT work. running as non-root isn't an option either, as i NEED USB support. im on ubuntu 10.10 i really need line by line command-prompt goodness xD im usually awesome at google-foo, but this one really has me vexed.
I am getting an error saying that my virtualbox has no access to my usb's but to enable access I need to add my user to the vboxusers ... how do i do that?
I have the latest version of Ubuntu Ultimate Edition... and the newest Virtualbox, because I need my Zune software..well I connect my Zune..and it shows up on the virtualbox, but it won't install the driver? What is this about?
I am using ubuntu 11.04 through virtualbox on win7 with a gtx460 if i install nvidia-current to access the nvidia cp on reboot it locks up.
and there are no drivers in the list when using the additional drivers feature through ubuntu which is why i installed nvidia-current. i just want to see what this unity is about and have full scale resolution supported by virtualbox and my vcard as well as my monitor.
I had Windows XP running fine on Virtualbox, but it's started crashing. This happens instantly when I try to startup the virtual machine. It doesn't get anywhere near booting up. Total crash, no ctrl-alt-del on host. I've tried reducing the RAM and number of processors but it doesn't help. I hadn't changed anything when the problem started.
Virtualbox Version 4.0.12 NAT network Host kernel Linux 2.6.35-30-generic-pae(i686), distro Ubuntu 10.10
Everytime I try to install Ubuntu 11.04 on my computer it gets stuck at the Keyboards settings and it keep saying "Ready when you are" and then nothing happens.
By the way, I have Windows 7 64bit. Intel i5 2500K 3,3 GHz Quad-core 8GB RAM Sapphire Radeon 5770 HD 1GB
