Ubuntu :: Acer Revo Internet Access Not

Mar 6, 2010

Its been a few years since I gave linux a go but having just bought an acer revo and enjoyed xbmc on myxbox I thought I would give it another go.I downloaded the 64 bit version to usb stick and got to the desktop of the live install.Everything looks great but no internet access over both wireless and ethernet.I'm used to the wireless being detected etc in windows and even though I found what must be the network manager and put in my 64 bit wep code etc it couldn't find my wireless connnection.

I thought then that mabey the preinstall ubuntu doesn't do internet.Just to see if this was the case tried it with the netbook version on this I can get ethernet access but on removing network cable no access at all.I've got an old netgear router which I am replacing soon in case thats the problem.I don't want to install ubuntu unless I can get wireless internet/network access.Being a total linux newb some of the guides I've tried to follow on the net presume I have too much knowledge. So I end up getting lost.I go into wireless connections psecify name of network (SSID ie Wireless) put in the Mac code of my router and the 64bit WEP key. I don't touch the lpv4 and 6 settings as don't know what they do Still no joy

I wonder if anyone out there has a revo 64 bit version of ubuntu working and could help mme find my wireless connection.Just an update I reput the settings into the netowrk manager and it worked although very slow.Is this because its a live install. I'll now try it with ubuntu 64 bit and see if I can get access...I seem to be getting there although very slow

May 30, 2010

xbmc 9.11 HTPC (confluence skin) on an acer revo 3610 running ubuntu 9.10 can someone possibly help me as I cannot get WOL to work. Went into BIOS under power management and enabled WOL.I have used this guide to set up. HOWTO: Set your system up for Wake On LAN (WOL my ipconfig is

Quote:
xbmc@xbmc-desktop:~$ ifconfig

I then tried to follow this guide HOW-TO set up Wake-On-Lan (Ubuntu) and followed those steps also still nothing. I deleted this script however as it did nothing and didnt want to have two scripts that might be interfering with each other. How can I check that the magic packs are being received by the computer? I think it has something to do with the MAC address but Im a linux noob and gettng kinda lost now, ANY help would be much appreciated. I also have a another linux computer hooked up on the network to test however I want to WOL via the internet incase I am traveling and need to wake up my htpc. Can anyone please help me as I think I have the scrips installed and Im just not doing something simple like configuring the magic packs correctly to send the information.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Calling All Acer Revo Owners

I'm running the latest version of Ubuntu, and have upgraded the NVIDIA drivers to the latest ones from the website (not sure if that's part of the problem). I've got XBMC installed and it seems to be working, but I can't for the life of me get anything but Stereo passed over HDMI, according to my Onkyo 606 amp that is anyway. Can anyone tell me if it's actually possible, or if they've actually managed it, to get surround sound playing over HDMI on an ACER Revo running Karmic?

Ubuntu :: Acer Revo, Audio Devices Disappeared?

Jul 17, 2010

I've just been setting up my new Revo with Ubuntu for use as a HTPC with XBMC etc..
Previously I had audio coming out through HDMI, but now I have lost all devices under the sound settings.

I was using alsa mixer, is there any way of getting this working again? A HTPC without sound is a bit useless!

I can't really say what I've done, as I took a few approaches to it, but I've tried to remove everything so it's back to normal. I think maybe it happened after updating some NVIDIA drivers..

Ubuntu :: Acer Revo 3700 No Sound Through Hdmi

Dec 20, 2010

I've just installed ubuntu 11.04 on my recently purchased acer aspire revo 3700. After completing the initial install of ubuntu, running all available critical and recommended updates, and installing and activating the 3rd party driver for the nvidia card I'm having trouble. I am getting good video through the hdmi cable to my sony bravia 32" tv, but no sound (sound works fine in regular tv or xbox use).

I'm relatively inexperienced with linux so I'm not entirely sure what information would be relevant and helpful to assisting me with deciphering this issue, but I will do my best.I've found no proprietary driver for sound through the nvidia ion processor, only one for the graphics arm. I would assume they are sharing a driver, but as its not stated I cannot be sure. The 'additional drivers' control panel calls it the 'NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version current)' The chip is the nvidia GT218-ION. Settings in sound preferences are high definition audio controller digital stereo (hdmi) selected for output.

results from aplay are:

UR@UR-Acer:~$ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC662 rev1 Analog [ALC662 rev1 Analog]
Subdevices: 1/1

[code]...

Ultimately nothing so far has worked. I'm not getting any sound from any application or the sound tests in the preferences hardware tab.

Ubuntu :: 11.04 Hangs On Acer Aspire Revo 3700?

May 26, 2011

My Acer Aspire Revo 3700 installed fine. I did the commands on this page to prevent the system from hanging on shutdown and reboot, and it went fine.

Against my better judgement, I allowed the system to install a new nvidia driver a couple days ago. Some other stuff was updated as well, so I don't know where to pin the problem.

The Problem: Now, when I shutdown or reboot the system, the system hangs with the Ubuntu logo on screen.

Copy of my dmesg:

Ubuntu Multimedia :: AC3 Passthrough Pulse/Alsa/XBMC - Acer Aspire Revo?

Jun 16, 2010

Is it possible to install XBMC onto Ubuntu Lucid and still have passthrough audio to a connected receiver (i.e. a workaround with Pulse)? I have an Acer Aspire Revo R1600 connected via HDMI to my Onkyo reciever. I am able to get desktop sounds and play MP3 files from XBMC, but passthrough has been a bear. If I tell Pulse that my sound device is analog, for some reason I can get XBMC to pass through audio. However, I would like to keep system sounds and have the passthrough ability if it's possible. As I understand it (from about two weeks of fidgeting) this is a limitation of Pulse and it's lack of pass through support. It seems so simple. I've tried multiple different .asoundrc configirations none of which have gotten me there. I've upgraded Alsa. I'd rather not run XBMC live if I dont have to. I'd like to have the ability to have a workstation for when I need it. I've upgraded to the latest NVIDIA driver available from their website - 195.36.31.

Strange thing is that, the HDMI works without any problem on Windows 7 (but alas, the 1080P graphics quality is very poor) The audio output is set to HDMI in the "Sound" settings. The audio is not muted and is set to full volume. I'm using Alsa version 1.0.23 with latest nVidia drivers on Ubuntu I went through the below thread:[URL]but it did not help me either.I've attached most of the command outputs and content of my ~/.asoundrc (as per thread #1670681)

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Upgrade To An Acer Revo R3610 Dual Core Intel Atom 1?

Dec 14, 2010

I have a question that has been partially answered in other posts and forums but I am still unclear. Please can someone help me out? I was previously using an Intel Atom 1.6GHz, 1GB RAM and the onboard Intel graphics adaptor for use as a media center PC. This was running Lubuntu and I could use Flash at full screen without any issues.

I have since decided to upgrade to an Acer Revo R3610 (Dual core Intel Atom 1.6GHz, 4GB RAM, Corsair SSD and Nvidia ION grpahics). I thought that as this machine was more powerful than my previous one, I could get away with ditching Lununtu and go for Ubuntu 10.10 (x86).

I have updated the machine and installed the latest Nvidia drivers. When I browse to a Flash based site all runs fine until I go to full screen then I get about 10FPS (sound remains fine). The video is unwatchable. I rebuilt the machine using Windows 7 Ultimate (x86) and tested again. Under Windows the video plays perfectly.

I have also tried using the 10.2 beta version of Flash under Ubuntu and this gives the same terrible results. I am at a loss as to where the issue lies. Is it with Nvidia's driver, Adobe's Flash under Linux or is it my Ubuntu build?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: 9.10 On Acer Aspire Revo + NVidia ION LE + XBMC On Vizio L32HDTV - Title Bar And Taskbar Missing

Apr 22, 2010

when I connected to the L32 HDTV over the HDMI cable, picture came up, and I thought great, plug & play. But the title bar and taskbar were missing and I soon learned that this cheap Vizio TV has a native resolution of 1366x768 and simply upscales and chops off what it considers "overscan" when you drive it at the proper 720p 1280x720. To add to the problems, it doesn't report the correct EDID modes (look at your /var/log/Xorg.0.log to see the probes or install and use the read-edid package) so 1366x768 isn't an option out of the box. I spent days mucking around with /etc/X11/xorg.conf with custom Modelines, strange options and copying confs from other threads, trying to get it working at 1366x768 or 1360x768 or 1368x768 (some variations seem to work for some people)

In the end, I didn't have to touch xorg.conf at all =) All I had to do was install the newer NVIDIA 195 drivers!!! Then you get the lovely Overscan Compensation slider in nvidia-settings, and all is well. First, you will have to apt-get remove the old drivers (probably -185 or -180). Install apt-show-versions for an easy way to do that. I had a bunch of junk, I just removed all packages that had nvidia-someversionnumber in the package name.

General :: PPPOE Server Access Internet Clients Fail To Access Internet

Aug 26, 2010

I have a linux box (fedora) with two ethernet cards eth1 and eth2. On eth1 I successfully configured a PPPOE internet connection. Such that from the server I can browse the internet. On eth2 I wired it to a wireless router essentially to provide the wireless cloud. On eth2 I also configured dhcp, such that the Linux box is both PPPOE and DHCP server. However my clients on the LAN cannot access the Internet.

On passing the routing command I get
Destination Gateway Iface
196.44.x.y 0.0.0.0 ppp0
192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 eth2 (my subnet)
0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 ppp0.

The router (functioning as a wireless access point mainly) has a fixed IP address of 192.168.1.2 and eth2 has IP address 192.168.1.1. The dhcp file running on Linux has been set with option router (Gateway) 192.168.1.1. I cannot figure out how to correctly set the routing table such that my clients on wireless can access the internet cloud. I googled and googled but no solid solution. Any suggestions?

Debian Configuration :: Internet For Acer Extensa 5220 Laptop On Stretch

Jul 20, 2015

I have installed debian stretch on this machine, but can't get wired ethernet running. Using Slitaz live disc, the wired connection works. Guess I am missing a package or two.

Slitaz system (2.6.37) info reports:

Code: Select alltg3:  Broadcom Tigon3 ethernet driver
ath5k : Support for 5xxx series of Atheros 802.11 wireless LAN cards

So it looks to me I need drivers for:

wired interface - Broadcom BCM5787M
wireless interface - Atheros Communications Inc. AR242x/AR542x

The debian scratch I have installed on the laptop gives me this info:

Code: Select alllspci -vvnn | grep -A 9 Network

It looks like the required modules have been loaded, e.g. for wired, tg3

Ubuntu Networking :: The Phone Can Access The Internet Through The Computer Unable To Get Access To Https Sites, Like Webmails

Dec 31, 2010

I managed to configure my W890i phone to get access to internet through an ubuntu-based computer. It's very easy to use the phone to give internet access to the computer, but the opposite is quite more tricky. For that I've done the following

----On the phone---

-Set the USB network option to "through computer", so that the phone uses the computer's internet connection and not the opposite.

-Decide and set "Shared Network" parameters: user, pasword and workgroup.

-In "conectivity-> internet connection" set "allow local network" to "yes"

----On Ubuntu 10.04---

-Install samba, samba-client, smbfs, smbclient, firestarter and dhcp3-server

-Configure Samba (System-> Administration-> Shared folders): same workgroup as in the phone, add new user (the phone), passwd this new user. In my case the user was called "w890i" and the password given was the same.

-Once the phone is connected to the computer through USB (then select "phone mode"), a new connection appears in NetworkManager: usb0.The aim is to create a shared network that gives internet access to this device. Edit the IPv4 parameters of this new connection, set them to Manual and give an IP adress (192.168.0.1) and a subnet mask (255.255.255.0); the rest of the fields are left empty.Connect this network.

-Set firestarter to use dhcp3: sudo ln -sf /etc/init.d/dhcp3-server /etc/init.d/dhcpd

-Launch firestarter and follow the wizard. Set "allow internet shared connection", choose the device for the primary internet access, and then the device for the shared network (usb0). Then change the settings for firestarter: activate DHCP for local network, set IP to the one we gave before (192.168.0.1).

-Open dhcp3-server config file sudo gedit /etc/default/dhcp3-server And set INTERFACES="usb0"

-Set the policies of firestarter: in incoming connections, allow connections from the IP adress given to the phone (192.168.0.1). Then add rules for the ports that need to be open for this connection. I opened HTTP, HTTPS, SMB, SMTP, POP3, IMAP, IMAPS, DHCP for all the connections in the local network.

-Apply policies and start the firewall.

------------

After all this, the phone can access the internet through the computer. Two problems appeared:

1. I couldn't get access to https sites, like webmails. The phone gave a "communication error". But then I tried with Opera instead of the browser built in the phone's firmware, and I could finally get to https sites.

2. I couldn't retrieve mail, neither POP nor IMAP nor IMAPS. I thought it was a firmware problem again, and I tried out several mobile phone email clients written in java, but none of them worked.

So this is at the moment the problem. If I connect from the phone to the internet directly through 3G, the email clients work for all my accounts. I don't think it's a firewall problem, because the ports are opened for this connection

Software :: Squid 3.0 Access List / Remove Redirect Statement From Iptables All Internet Access Is Blocked?

Jun 11, 2010

I have an old FC2 box running Squid version 2.5. It has been running since 2003 so I am in the process of replacing it. I have a new machine with FC11, iptables, and Squid 3.0 installed.

On the old machine I use iptables to intercept Port 80 traffic and send it to Squid. By default I block all internet access and allow only sites that are in an Allowed_Sites.txt file. Within Squid I also have statements to allow certain users to bypass Squid based on their IP address.

I have set up the same thing on the new box. I have iptables intercepting the Port 80 traffic and sending it to Squid. That is working because if I remove the redirect statement from iptables all internet access is blocked.

The problem I am having is that Squid is not blocking any websites. It acts like the ACL is set to http_access allow all. I have worked on this for several hours and am stumped.

These are my Squid rules:
