1. I've binded compiz' "scale - initiate window picker" to the top right corner. But it just seems to stop working randomly until I restart my pc. Why does this happen?
2. Scale - "initiate windows picker for windows group" doesn't seem to work at all? For example I open two firefox windows, touch the keys I've set up (super + c) but nothing happens?
I have had a few X crashes and started to suspect compiz as they usually happened when I was resizing a window or the window was wobbling.

Using Compiz's animation plugin, only the open and close effects work. When any entries are listed under the "Animation Selection" for Minimize, Focus, or Shade; the animations do not play; and I receive a libnotify error: "Animation settings mismatch in 'Animation Selection' list for __<Minimize or Focus or Shade>___ event."This happens even with the Animation Selection values reset and even the entire Animation configuration reset. I use the Gconf backend, but this also occurs with a file-based configuration. This has never worked for me.

How about floating windows above desktop cube? Dodge? In which upon selecting a window, the non-selected windows move around it to move it to the front.I also notice that many window updates are very poor. For example, in the compiz settings manager when I switch tabs, the window does not actually update unless I move it. I click on a tab and it looks just like the previous tab. If I move the mouse around, it will update the wind in blocks under the mouse, but not the whole window.And, it would appear that the standard compiz is still available from my desktop settings in KDE. Could I have failed to remove the original compiz?

As said here: [URl] I want the sphere deformation, but that needs the PPA apparently (I can't find it anywhere in the default compiz Ubuntu 10.10 ships with.) Compiz starts, but it says it can't load plugin 'decoration.'

let me start with this I am running the 10.4 beta2 via wubi on an Acer 6930. the Main os is Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I installed 10.4 32 bit Wubi. my hardware it intel core 2 duo 2Ghz 4GB ddr Mobile Intel GM45 Express. I think that is the applicable hard ware infoNow for my problem: when I am using Compiz dsktop cube or desktop wall In't set the horizontal size to 4(for a perfect cube like I want) it works with any other value, from 1 to 128 just not 4 has any one else had this issue or know of a fix?

View 5 Replies View RelatedLike my title states, Compiz or any desktop effects aren't usable for me in 10.04. Never had any problem with any previous release. I'm using the open drivers with my ATI 1950 GT. At first I thought it was due to the fact that I have dual monitors now, but after disabling one and trying again it still acts up.
All I can explain it is it's as if my desktop were "lagging". My mouse cursor will jump and stay in a certain area and I can only move windows a short distance before my mouse pops off and the window jumps back. Minimizing windows also seems like it's a burden on my computer and will take a few seconds to do so.
This is the same setup I've had over various distributions and this is the first time I've experienced it. Anyone have any idea if it's fixable or if my computer is just finally getting too old? I can post the rest of my specs if they're needed.
I can't use compiz because my computer doesn't support it.

I've just did a new format to my linux partition,when the installation was finished i had the same theme that i had before the format. All the effects that i had activated with compiz still work(cube,wobbly windows etc.)
Should I turn ON compiz with 512 RAM on mine AAO or do in need more RAM?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use the accelerometer build in my Hp Mini 2140 to rotate the cube desktop with compiz. The gesture that I want to enable is like this one [URL] . That is realized via the smackpad plugin for the HDAPS sensor that is mounted on the IBM/lenovo notebook and the Apple notebook. But I think that is a totally different architecture and wont work with my PC.
So I searched a bit and my HP Mini has an ST LIS3LV02DL accelerometer that is identified as a joystick in ubuntu. It's working very well, after having calibrate it with jstest-gtk I was able to use the accelerometer to play Neverball. So I'm wondering if there is a way to enable in compiz the recognition of joystick gesture to do actions in addition to the key bindings, the mouse bindings and the edges. In fact setting a movement in the Axis 0 has a gesture for rotating the cube will enable a smackpad like action on my HP.
I run the final version of Lucid Lynx and have a 9800gt.
I followed the following procedure to install compiz (and I want compiz, not just the built in desktop effects) on my computer, all sudo with KDM disabled where necessary:
1. apt-get install nvidia-current
2. nvidia-xconfig
3. apt-get install build-essential libxcomposite-dev libpng12-dev libsm-dev libxrandr-dev libxdamage-dev libxinerama-dev libstartup-notification0-dev libgconf2-dev libgl1-mesa-dev libglu1-mesa-dev libmetacity-dev librsvg2-dev libdbus-1-dev libdbus-glib-1-dev libgnome-desktop-dev libgnome-window-settings-dev gitweb curl autoconf automake automake1.9 libtool intltool libxslt1-dev xsltproc libwnck-dev python-dev python-pyrex <- these were prerequisites mentioned by the guide on compiz.org
4. apt-get install compiz compizconfig-settings-manager compiz-kde compiz-fusion-plugins-main compiz-fusion-plugins-extra emerald
At this point, everything installed successfully, and nvidia driver was working perfectly.
I verified this: desktop effects worked OOB.
5. compiz --replace &
6. emerald --replace &
At this point, compiz apparently started. Emerald worked perfectly: all of the window decorations worked OOB. I went and ran ccsm, and turned on quite a few settings. It didn't enable ANYTHING. When I reran ccsm, all of the settings were back to default, and enabling any new ones had no effect on window behavior. Strange. I looked on the web and found:[url]
The ubuntu page said that I should not "Enable integration into the desktop environment" if gconf was selected. BUT THE FLAT FILE CONFIGURATION WAS SELECTED BY DEFAULT. Then I went back to the site and it said flat file configuration was recommended!
Maybe I shouldn't have enabled desktop effects first (NOTE THAT I LATER DISABLED IT and things still did not work)?
How can you get Compiz to work in Lubuntu. I tryed to change the window manager, but can't. Is there a way?

I do the same that I did in Lucid, Go to Effects > Animations and select check box all to get random effects. One more thing, The flame effect is also missing there.

Though, even though I got the NVidia driver to work properly on my laptop, the "Desktop Effects" keeps getting turned off it seems.
For Compiz to work, I have to go to System - Preferences - Appearance and tell it Extra affects and Compiz will turn back on, though losing all settings.
Is there a reason Compiz and Desktop Effects are not getting persistence when every other part of the system has it?
I have an issue running compiz on Ubuntu 10.04. I have a Dell Studio 1458 with an Intel Graphics Card. I ran compiz-check and it keeps saying that "Software rasterizer in use". It is running under VMWare on Windows 7.I installed MacBuntu which installed compiz by itself.

I have compiz installed, together with the CompizConfig settings manager, and the simple ccsm. When I change the settings in either of those things (or in System->Administration->Appearance->visual effects), no changes actually occur. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling compiz, and I tried a host of other things I could find advised for my situation. I'm at my wits end about this. When I type 'compiz' into the terminal, the screen, and all the windows, flash like crazy for a few seconds, and then the terminal returns:

I read that Natty will use Unity as the preferred desktop environment, together with Compiz. I found that on my system Compiz - while very neat - will cause instability so I'd rather not use it. How would the desktop stack look for a user not wanting to run Compiz under Natty? Can I use Mutter with Unity? Or maybe I should replace Unity with Gnome? Will my Ubuntu like this (replacing Unity with Gnome)? Will Ubuntu make it easy for users to dump Compiz if they want to do so?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been looking around on the Internet for a comprehensive tutorial on 'how Compiz works', 'what all the settings mean' and 'using' Compiz; but, so far, have only seen things describing how to do a certain thing or other. I've gone into Compiz Configuration Settings Manager and poked around but what I've seen in there seems extremely technical (in other words - I don't know what the heck these settings mean or what would happen if I changed one of them).So far I've manged to get the magnifying glass thing and I have wobbly windows (don't know if I can take credit for that though). So I see all these amazing demonstrations of it on you tube and whatnot and I wish I could do some of that stuff but I'd really like to approach this by learning all about Compiz from A to Z rather than learn this thing and then that thing, etc.
Is there anything out there that you know of? Ann ebook or something? I saw a book called: "Compiz Fusion" URL... that really, interests me but it is not available as an eBook (believe me I looked and looked and looked) and it's pretty expensive.
