Software :: Using "Fsstress" File System Stress Testing Program?

Jul 11, 2010

I have been assigned a project in which I have to test File System stress testing using "Fsstress" tool. I have to do this for a local file server. I don't have any idea as how to and what to install FSSTRESS on the Linux machine. I searched an rpm package and installed it on File server however, I don't have any idea about the commands and working of the FSSTRESS. My task would be successful if I can just run few stress testing test cases using FSSTRESS and come up with test results.

Ubuntu :: Stress Testing Installations For Performance And Stability

Feb 13, 2011

I'm going to be installing Vinux which is Linux for the Visually Impaired, based on Ubuntu, onto most any computers I can get my hands on to give to the VI community around my area. I'd like to know what would be a good method to stress test each computer to ensure that each one will operate at an adequate speed without freeze-ups. Sorry, I can't be specific about the computers. I'll be taking whatever gets donated from the public and from businesses, desktops and laptops, whatever comes my way. I don't want to send out any headaches to anyone by giving them a dog-tired slow or a freezing computer that won't even operate.

General :: Where To Put Program In File System

Jul 22, 2011

I have downloaded DavMail and its currently living and running from my /home/user/Downloads/DavMail

in this folder is

davmail.jar
davmail.log
davmail.sh
Lib/

[Code]....

I need to put davmail in a better location than downloads but am unsure where to put it, Im guessing if I seperate some of the files/folders such as lib ill have to modify the davmail.sh file.

wheres the best location to keep this or should it remain in my home folder, I was going to put this in

/usr/local/bin
/usr/local/lib

But the jar count as a binary? the .sh certainly wouldnt.

Software :: Testing A Database Restore On A Different System?

May 24, 2010

I am running tests on doing a postgreSQL restore, and part of the procedure is to import the dump file into the database. The database, version 8.1.3,s from HP-UX Internet Express Version A.14.00 Bundle and was installed onto an HP-UX 11.11 server. As part of the testing process, I was planning on setting up a Linux system with the latest available version of PostgreSQL, and import the dump file generated on the HP-UX server into database on the Linux system. Once that was done, we would connect to the latter system, and test the database. My questions are the following:1. Can the dump file be imported to a remote system rather than the one that generated it?2. Is this a good test to determine the viability of the dump file?

Debian Configuration :: Wireless Config With System In Testing?

Nov 8, 2015

I'm trying to set up my Intel Wireless 3945ABG (which is supported in the kernel) and I don't understand where to start if I want to use systemd to do this.

I've installed my Debian (Stretch Alpha4) base system using the wireless to download the necessary components but when I boot into the system I need to set up the wireless card separately.

I would prefer to be able to install wireless without the requirement of connecting via ethernet so no package installs other than what is downloaded by the installer.

I can't even find documentation on this specific issue because everyone seems to reference /etc/network/interfaces which AFAIK is not supported in systemd. How do I configure a wireless card using only systemd?

Fedora Installation :: NVIDIA Quadro FX And 10 - System Always Locks Up During The 'Anacron' Testing Sequence

Feb 18, 2009

I recently purchased a Quadro FX 4800 and tried to install it on Fedora 10. During the installation, Fedora didn't recognize my new graphics card and began installing the OS in text mode. I stopped the installation and tried to start over, this time I passed the following command: linux resolution=1024x768. I then proceeded with the installation, and again, I was posed with a text mode installation. I continued with the text mode install and when Fedora was done installing, I rebooted and system just locked up.

At this point I was frustrated, so I reinstalled my old 8800 graphics card and started a new install with something that worked in the past. When the install was done, I loaded the latest NVIDIA drivers and the rebooted. I reinstalled my new graphics card (Quadro FX 4800) then powered up my system. I thought everything was good to go and all of a sudden my system flickered and then locked up during the 'Anacron' testing phase. I then rebooted with the "Ctrl+Alt+Del" hotkeys, but my system always locks up during the 'Anacron' testing sequence. I am aware that the Quadro FX 4800 is a few months old, but how can I get it to work in linux? It has gotten so bad, that I had to resort to using MS Vista.

System specs:
Intel Core Duo Quad Core
4 gigs DDR2
SATA RAID 0

Debian Configuration :: Testing/Sid - ProFTPD - File Wrong?

Feb 26, 2010

I've been working on the setup of a FTP server on my Debian system for the whole afternoon. But I can't get it straight! Normally I get it working in just a second, but it's been a while I guess.

I installed only proftpd-basic and it's default dependencies. Should be enough right?

My configuration files are as follows:

I created the user zeitgeist, gave it a password, group and a homedir. Group of the user is nogroup and the homedir is correct with the 755 permission. My port 21 for FTP is open I tested it with nmap -p 21 [ip-address].

My Filezilla client tells me that at first he is connecting, then the connection is established, And then the connection is closed by server.

Server :: Courier - No Such File Or Directory When Testing IMAP And POP

Jul 28, 2010

Using the following software:
Ubuntu Server 8.04
SquirrelMail 1.4.13
Postfix 2.5.1
Courier 0.59.0 (Courier-IMAP 4.3.1)
Apache2 2.2.8

I've installed a mail server per the instructions at [url].

Neither POP nor IMAP test successfully with the user that I just added after following the setup instructions.

This doesn't make any sense. I added the user to the mysql database:

Code:

And after I did that, I ran the postfix reload command. If I try to log in as firstuser@mydomain.com, which is the user I created during the setup and configuration process, it works fine.

I checked the virtual mail account's home folder, and under the mydomain.com folder, I only see a folder for firstuser. I'd create one for testuser manually, but I don't know if that'll work since it seems to contain a particular folder structure of its own.

Is there some other command that I have to run? I don't recall having to do anything additional when setting up firstuser.

CentOS 5 :: Testing Installation - Image File Not Running

Jul 12, 2009

Before installing Centos, I downloaded an image file and burned it to CD using InfraRecorder. It starts to run but does not complete. My machine is a new Intel Q6600 Core 2 Quad CPU with 4G of RAM. It is a 64-bit machine, and I used the 64-bit image. After Centos (which I tried first) failed, I then tried (using the same burning software):

o Slackware
o UBuntu
o gNewSense
o Knoppix
o Debian
o Fedora
o Suse
o BSD
o Solaris
0 puppy Linux

Most failed similarly to Centos. Knoppix worked fully several times, but I was not enthusiastic about installing it, and eventually (on the 5th iteration), it started to fail in a way similar to Centos, and continues so. Solaris and PuppyLinux worked. Those that failed, failed while attempting to start the 4 CPUs. Solaris and Knoppix (when it worked) succeeded in starting all 4 cpus and I could see the messages.

How to communicate what's happening during a failed boot? Finally, I hit upon the idea of photographing the screen during the failing part of the boot; the file is attached. The photo shows the screen just before it blanks, and the BIOS resets for another try. Please let me know if I can collect any other information. I would like to use Centos as a dual boot on my shiny new machine.

Ubuntu :: Stress Test CPU / GPU While Monitoring The Temperatures

Oct 5, 2010

After turning off the overclocking (When I actually turned it off, I realized it didn't really make a noticeable difference) of my CPU and lowering the fans of my PC, I would like to stress test the GPU/CPU, and obviously also check the temps while doing so. The fans on my PC were previously so loud you couldn't even have a conversation on the phone while in the same room as the computer, and I just now realized how much I can actually lower them... But I don't want to lower them too much, obviously.

So, anyway, because of these reasons I would like to stress test my CPU/GPU while monitoring the temperatures. I'd need software for doing so, Linux or Windows doesn't really matter, I have both. Also, I need to know what minimum/maximum temperatures that are okay.

Debian Installation :: Testing - All Logins Fail / System Error Message From The Passwd Command?

Mar 18, 2010

I just installed Squeeze on an older PC. Installation seemed to go fine. But when it booted up on the installed system for the first time, I could not login - username/password failure. I tried every possible typing error and CAP LOCK error I could have made - still nothing.

I brought up a console window and tried logging in as root - same problem.

I booted into single user mode and entered passwd command to set new root password - I got a SYSTEM ERROR message from the passwd command.

I booted to a Live CD, went to /etc/shadow and deleted the encrypted password. Rebooted on the hard drive, went to console window and logged in as root, with no password required. So far so good. I entered passwd command to set new password and got the same SYSTEM ERROR message.

The machine seems fine when running on the Live CD, and the install seemed to go fine.

Ubuntu :: Remove Directories That *don't* Contain A File - Safe Testing Method?

Apr 15, 2011

I'm trying to clean up an iTunes-sorted Music directory. For whatever reason, it contains a large number of folders that have album art, but no music. I'm actually more concerned about a safe way to test my removal batch, but I thought I'd paste everything I did in case it's useful to someone. Based on this thread, I came up with the following script:

Code:
#!/bin/bash
find ./*/* -type f -iregex ".*(mp3|m4a)" | sort | while read line ; do
echo "${line%/*}" >> file1
done
sort -u file1 > fileuniq

[Code]...

But I'm scared to just run this on my music folder. Is there any way to run rm in "test mode", so that I would just see verbose output, but it wouldn't actually delete anything? Failing that, does anyone see anything wrong with my plan?
