Software :: Using "Fsstress" File System Stress Testing Program?
Jul 11, 2010I have been assigned a project in which I have to test File System stress testing using "Fsstress" tool. I have to do this for a local file server. I don't have any idea as how to and what to install FSSTRESS on the Linux machine. I searched an rpm package and installed it on File server however, I don't have any idea about the commands and working of the FSSTRESS. My task would be successful if I can just run few stress testing test cases using FSSTRESS and come up with test results.

Feb 13, 2011I'm going to be installing Vinux which is Linux for the Visually Impaired, based on Ubuntu, onto most any computers I can get my hands on to give to the VI community around my area. I'd like to know what would be a good method to stress test each computer to ensure that each one will operate at an adequate speed without freeze-ups. Sorry, I can't be specific about the computers. I'll be taking whatever gets donated from the public and from businesses, desktops and laptops, whatever comes my way. I don't want to send out any headaches to anyone by giving them a dog-tired slow or a freezing computer that won't even operate.

Oct 5, 2010After turning off the overclocking (When I actually turned it off, I realized it didn't really make a noticeable difference) of my CPU and lowering the fans of my PC, I would like to stress test the GPU/CPU, and obviously also check the temps while doing so. The fans on my PC were previously so loud you couldn't even have a conversation on the phone while in the same room as the computer, and I just now realized how much I can actually lower them... But I don't want to lower them too much, obviously.
So, anyway, because of these reasons I would like to stress test my CPU/GPU while monitoring the temperatures. I'd need software for doing so, Linux or Windows doesn't really matter, I have both. Also, I need to know what minimum/maximum temperatures that are okay.

But in params for tester above 32M system refuses to allocate memory in spite of there are about 250M free.It's because it too defragmented so i cannot run such tester. I installed qcad earlier today, using Software Center. Qcad didn't show up anywhere in the Applications dropdown menu. When I was running 9.04, it showed up in the Graphics sub-menu, but it's nowhere. Rebooted, nothing. It shows up as installed in the Synaptic Package Manager, but I went ahead and removed and installed it again, rebooting between each operation. (sigh) Still nothing. Now, I'm sure it's in here, but I can't find it. So, I have three questions:
1. How do I start it (or any program) using command line?
2. How do I find it using my Gnome gui, and put it in the applications menu
and
3. Generally, is there a guide that will explain what I'm looking at when I open my File System directory?

Jul 6, 2010I Just got the ADS VideoXpress video capture USB thing (Plug composite video and audio into it, and plug it into a computers USB port). Anyway, I've tried to install what came on the CD, with Wine, but still cant view any video. I don't need it to record from it, I just want to view the video live as it passes through. I don't even need audio, just the basic low quality video.
Anyone know where I can find a program to view the raw input?[URL]..

Somehow it's supposed to work anyway. I think I need one of those magic commands to make it work. But the question is; which word will make it all happen? (I thought the DOS days were over!) I guess I could use the full path (provided that that binary really is in that folder), I want to bind that executable at that location to the much shorter mpicc.

Oct 26, 2010I installed Freeradius using Yum and then RPM, where the heck does the default program folder get installed and how do you even find it. I did a find . -name free and I come up with nothing. In Windows, I can go to a program respoistory, download a program to the default directory or choose one, launch the installation, and more often than not the program and most of it's components are installed in the 'Programs' directory. It is a pretty consistent, neat, and organized process. Can someone relate how Linux works in comparison? I am not knocking Linux, just trying to understand if there is a consistent method to how it downloads, installs, and stores applications.

Software :: Find Duplicate Files - Program With Gui ?
Jan 29, 2011I would like to check two folders for duplicate files (two pretty old backup instances).
MY folders are quite alike so I would like to stop the NON-duplicated files for that I want to be able to do some checks not only for the filename but alsofor the filesize (might be the case that two files have same name but not size).
The ideal would be to suggest me such a program with gui but if not I will try run any script code that is available outhere.
