Server :: Sendmail Is Sending Unnecessary Multiple Copies Of Emails From Php
Jan 7, 2010I have a 64bit linux server with 5 virtual hosts on it. When someone fills out a contact form on one of the sites...I get 15-20 copies of the same email. At first I thought it was the kids clicking send multiple times because the first emails were coming from the children's ministry "Email The Cast" section. But then I started getting multiples from the adult sites too. All contact forms are set to come to me.
What's stranger is that my registration section for one of the sites uses the SAME php script (different file) to email me a notification that someone has registered but I only get 1 copy of that.

Every user that exist on the system currently or will be made in future, I want their incoming emails to them to be piped to /dev/null .... I just want those users to be able to send emails.

Jun 21, 2010Having some issues setting up sendmail on a (basically) blank RHEL 5.5 server setup. My ultimate goal is to be able to automagically send logs / errors / notifications to ourselves from the server.
Our basic setup is a Win 2003 domain with exchange running on mail.domain.com.au.
I've edited the '/etc/mail/sendmail.mc' and added the :

line to it.
Also added the domain (domain.com.au) to the '/etc/mail/local-host-names' files

When I try and send a mail from root or a test user to one of the domain accounts, it seems to go fine, i.e no errors are reported but it never gets delivered.

So it seems to be sent to the queue no problems and when I check the queue :

Not nothing ever gets received. Am I missing something? I have read and read and read but dont seem to be getting any furthur.
So in the end this server doesn't need to do anything except be able to send mail from root to an external mail address.
Server :: RHEL - Sendmail Delay In Connecting To SMTP For Some Addresses Only
Jun 4, 2010Sendmail on the RHEL server is set up to forward email to company internal mail server (via SMART_HOST). This has worked fine for years.
From the server, doing a sendmail dave@company.com, the message is sent immediately. No problems - and no change here.
From the server, doing a sendmail roberto@compania.com (compania is the part of the company in Mexico) causes a 2m40s delay before sendmail does anything.
No packets are sent until after 2m40s wait. Message is always sent after the delay. It is not clear what the server is waiting for.
For *each* user in the @compania domain specified in sendmail command, an additional 2:40 is imposed before email is sent. Email is always sent after the n*2:40 sec delay.
Sending email to some_name@AnUnusedDomainNameThatDoesntExist.com is processed immediately - with a bounce email received in a couple of seconds.
Q: How do I determine where this 2m 40s delay is introduced?

1. edit /etc/mail/sendmail.mc

3. Edit /etc/sysconfig/sendmail

4.And restart sendmail
cd /etc/mail
make
service sendmail restart
5.sendmail -v abc@gmail.com
Its working but going to spam and more thing. I am not able to send to our company id..

Jan 15, 2010I have running sendmail 8.13 on my red hat enterprise linux 5.1, but i have a problem. I can send a mail from my line command terminal to hotmail, gmail, yahoo and any of these, but i can't send mail to my own domain (mydomain.com), when i wrote a mail i get a reply from MAILER-DAEMON@localhost.localdomain that says that the message had pemanent fatal errors and shows as user unknown the mail was suposed to recive the message. For example, if i send one mail from user1@mydomain.com to user2@mydomain.com the user2 does not recive any mail, but that does not happens if user1 sends a mail to any hotmail address or gmail or any other. Besides i also can't recive on my server any mail to user1@mydomain.com or user2@mydomain.com (for example) comming from gmail.

Jul 25, 2010I created a new user "www". I can login with this user. I can send emails (using sendmail) from this user to other users. But this user cannot receive any email. All emails sent to "www" will go to "root" mailbox. Is "www" a special account under sendmail that all emails will be re-directed to "root"?

Aug 17, 2011I'm writing a script that will send an alert email given certain conditions. I have the impression that sendmail is what I need to do that. I just don't know how to use sendmail at all. I assume I have to set it up like a typical mail client so that it has a mail server to log into to send from.
I've looked through the man pages, but I can't find anything in plain English there on how to set it up, or how to use it once it is set up.

Apr 1, 2010I recently modified sendmail.cf to use a third party SMTP server to send emails. It works great. But when I run sendmail from the command line, I have to specify the -C flag and force feed it the location of my sendmail.cf, or else it doesn't work.

I don't run sendmail as a daemon. I'm only using it to send emails. I know my modifications of sendmail.cf are correct because it works perfectly when I use the -C flag. I searched my disk to see if I could find another sendmail.cf on the machine and only the one in /etc/mail came up.

I'm running Sendmail version 8.14.2 on Fedora Core 8.

Dec 9, 2009I have a database server running RHEL 5.1 32 bit that suffered some catastrophic failures about 6 months ago. We were able to patch it back together and keep it running, but now the manufacturing site it supports is going to shut down for two weeks and I would like to replace it permenantly. Does anyone have any guidance for that sort of thing? I'd like to have the new server up and running before hand, basically changing the hostname/ip and restoring the databases only on conversion day. I've done this in the past with HP UX - Red Hat conversions, but this is my first red hat to red hat move. Any advice or shortcuts?I forgot to add the other wrinkle. The new server will be running 64bit linux.

Jan 9, 2011I installed squeeze on my eeepc 1015ped and downloaded the correct firmware-brcm80211 drivers but every time I scan for my network using iwconfig wlan0 scan or wicd, my computer completely freezes. I previously had a solid install running xmonad, and wicd was working like a charm (using the same broadcom driver) but i tinkered too much with it and decided to do a fresh install. I haven't quite run into a problem like this before.

Apr 20, 2010I am newbie to postfix. I added a new domain to my postfix server in the main.cf under mydestinations variable and the relay_domains file. Also, added this domain to my backend exchange server. When I send a test message from the new domain, my messages from that domain appear to be stuck in the "queue active". What does it mean when you are stuck in this queue? Does this mean that my backend email server (exchange 2003) isn't allowing messages from this new domain OR that the POSTFIX server still needs configuring.

Getting no errors from them either thunderbird nor Evolution.On the server (Cento 5.3) the email is in /var/spool/mail/ username. Apr 4, 2011I recently setup an email server on Fedora Core (14). Sendmail is running and I am trying to authenticate from a client pc using imaps. I installed Cyrus-imap and it is running and listening on 993. When I try to login, it doesn't accept authentication even though I verified the user's password is correct. (tested with ssh)Is there something I have to do with Cyrus or on the server to allow connections to email? I have not used Cyrus before. I am attempting to access my mail folders via Sendmail and did not make mailboxes in Cyrus. I did allow imaps through the firewall.

Jun 7, 2010After searching the forum I could not find a clear answer to my question so I am giving it a try...
I have installed a LAMP server with Postfix as mail server. The scripts send email as user www-data using the mail server on the same machine.
However, the email got rejected by external mail servers (failed reverse DNS check) so I setup a mail server that meets all needed requirements.
Now I would like to use this second server instead of the mail server on the LAMP server. I found that this could be done with changing sendmail settings in php.ini (I think).
However I am not sure how that will go: www-data is no actual user on the new email server (which requires authentication before sending). Do I need to create a new user on the email server or change the settings in php.ini to match an existing user?
