Software :: Not Recognising New Telstra Turbo Wireless Modem

Feb 13, 2010

I've clean installed over a friend's win98 with Mint 7 (disc from lab a year? or so ago).

My Optus modem prompted the wizard and now always works fine,ok speed, and I updated Mint with 300 new files etc.

But my friend's new Telstra Turbo modem,[Sierra brand] although it shows a blue light flashing, doesn't get the wizard connection process started, and there's just NO sign on Mint that it's plugged in.

If I can get it to work, it will increase the number of people I know who use linux to 1.

Ubuntu Networking :: Telstra Mobile Broadband - Turbo Stick Not Working

Apr 7, 2011

I have an acer 532h aspire one, running ubuntu 10.04.

Basically, I bought a Telstra Turbo USB broadband stick and I've been having a bit of hell getting it to work. First I couldn't get the computer to recognize it had been plugged in at all. I downloaded the modeswitch packages to no avail. I tried a few other terminal tweaks but they didn't change anything either. I left the card in and restarted the netbook and it finally recognized the wireless card. I was able to surf the internet for an hour or so a couple times. But after stowing the computer away for a couple hours and turning it on again, I found that this work around was no longer effective. So now I'm back to the blue light never blinking and I have to tether my phone and pay ridiculous data charges because I'm in the middle of nowhere.

I'm really new at troubleshooting things that don't work right out of the box.

It's a telstra turbo prepaid wireless broadband. The stick isn't even recognized as removable media.

Ubuntu Networking :: Telstra ZTE MF636 - Will Not Recognise That The Modem Is Plugged In

Dec 15, 2010

I've got a telstra MF 636 modem that I've been trying to make work in Ubuntu 10.10.

Telstra have the modem report itself as a CD when it is first plugged in, but I've found out how to get around that using the terminal in the telstra software.

Anyway, my problem is that the computer will not recognise that the modem is plugged in. lsusb reports it as there, but the access point does not appear under the network icon 99 percent of the time. On the rare occasion it does, I click it, and it tries to connect, with the little animation and all, but it just disconnects.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Hs2300 HSDPA - Wireless Modem ?

Apr 25, 2010

I have just moved over from MS to Linux and so far I am pretty happy (couple of frustrations along the way, but nothing I could not sort out so far).

Except this little bit that has me bogged down. I am trying to get my HS2300 HSDPA wireless modem to work, but I am a little stuck here.

I found a post that I should get the HP-WMI module to load. That was a post on an older kernel and this guy mentioned that is should be included in newer versions of the kernel.

Modprobe did not deliver any results, however an "lsmod |grep wmi" delivered the following:

Obviously I need to look for hp_wmi, but so far I cannot get anything to work.

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Install Telstra Bigpond Mobile Broadband On 10.10, 10.04, 9.10?

Feb 11, 2011

I need help on how to install Telstra Bigpond Mobile broadband . The dongel is a ZTE model MF633BP+ Mobile Card. I have tried with Ubuntu 10.10, 10.04 and 9.10 but all I can get is a message saying it is disconnected. The computer is a modified Optima with a new motherboard, RAM and power supply with a 120GB hard drive. The hard drive is empty so which of the Ubuntu models suits a geriatic old fart of 67 like me who has only low computer skills.

PS I think I have also sent this request to a wrong address on these forums.

Ubuntu :: Not Recognising Files On Mp3 Player ?

Mar 5, 2010

I have some mp3 files that I want to sync with my girlfriend's mp3 player (Sandisk Sansa 4GB) using Rhythmbox, but for some reason no songs come up in Rhythmbox. I then checked the device's filesystem itself. The directory structure is correct, but there are no files in any of the folders. However, Dolphin reports that about 1.6 GB are free, which is about correct based on how much music is actually on the device already. And I've already synced this exact device with Windows Media Player before, and it worked fine. This was a problem both in 8.10 and, now, in 9.10.

On top of that, just now the Sansa disappeared both in Rhythmbox and Dolphin, as if it was unplugged. But it says on the Sansa's screen "Connected" and is apparently charging. I tried unplugging and re-connecting, but Ubuntu still refuses to recognise it.

If I can't get this to work, I'll likely just transfer the songs over the network to my Windows PC and use Windows Media Player, since that seems to work fine.

General :: Software Not Recognising Keystrokes ?

Jun 6, 2010

I have a piece of software that attempts to recognise when a hotkey has been pressed in order to activate functions, this program is designed for use on Windows systems so I am currently running it through the tool called 'Wine.'

When I am in the program it detects the key I wish to assign, it then allows me to save the settings which remain present once the program has been relaunched. However, both with and without the given program in focus it does not detect the given keystrokes.

I have attempted to make Wine use dinput.dll in native Windows form, rather the my system default however this did not resolve the issue. Even though it did make the program save my keystroke in a Windows format.

Software :: LPR Not Recognising My Hp F380 Printer ?

Mar 27, 2010

I'm trying to use my Buffalo Link station nas as a printer server. However every time I try sending a job to the printer remotely, I get an error in the samba logs. It says "lpr: unknown printer"

I was wondering how do I install the drivers for my HP? I tried copying the original printcap db from the original firmware but it doesn't work still. I restarted. The lpd error logs were empty. The lpd.log just indicated lpd had been restarted.

I know for a fact this printer works with this nas because I've tested it using the stock firmware.

Hardware :: Enabling Turbo Core ?

Oct 28, 2010

I have Phenom II X6 1055T. If Turbo Core kicks in, the speed should go up to 3.2GHz.

Problem is, it never kicks in. My kernel enabled Turbo Core already.

dmesg :

I am guessing, TurboCore depends with the P-State reading and cpu frequency thingy. As you can see, P0 are not 3200MHz (if my hypothesis are correct). Or perhaps i am wrong. I tested by not doing nothing and running folding program on one core with conky monitoring. Conky reads 5 cores at 800MHz, and one core at 2.8GHz.

TurboCore is enable on windows xp. I can see the core sometimes goes up to 3.2Ghz occasionally.

Networking :: 3g Wireless Modem Not Recognised

Sep 27, 2010

I have a 3g data card(LW272 GSM/WCDMA USB Modem with HSPADataCard) which is a type of multi-mode, 3G modem or card, applicable to 2G/3G networks; but it doesn't get recognised in Ubuntu 9.10. Actually, this device came with a software(for linux too) which makes calls and sms possible simultaneously while surfing. But while installation(from root terminal) i see a repeated trials of connecting to modem but it does not find the device(something wrong in installation), and the interface of the software also shows "No(U) Sim". Anyhow it doesn't bother me much if i m not able to avail the additional services( call and sms), but what i need is to make the modem recognisable so that i could configure the connection.

General :: USB Modem - Trying To Get The Wireless To Work

May 18, 2011

I am new to Linux and using Linux Mint 11 RC after trying Ubuntu, and Fedora. I am not new to computing having owned and written software for Amiga, and owned and built different Windows machines.

I have a E627 Emachine Laptop with an AMD TF-20 processor that runs a Athros Communications AR8132 Fast Ethernet Card rev c0 and the network controller is a Broadcom BGM 4312 802.11 b/g LPPHU rev 01. I have 2 megs of memory and this is the machine that I put the Linux Mint os on.

For days I have been trying to get the wireless to work. I have read everything I could find on the net and know that this machine has a problem with this. I also know that the drivers in Mint don't work even though they are supposed to. I was using Mint 10 which is the stable version and it had the same problem as did Ubuntu which I know is almost the same as Mint and Fedora.

I have decided after many hours that the way to go might be to install one of those thumb drives with a wireless modem built in, but can't find an appropriate Linux one that will work with my setup. Does anyone know if there is such a thing?

Slackware :: Connect USB Wireless Modem 13.1

Jul 2, 2010

I'm using a Verizon/Nortel USB760 wireless modem (worker just fine in 13.0, got problems in 13.1). Using KPPP, I connect to the service, waltz around reading mail, news and LQ then disconnect and close KPPP. I let it sit for any length of time then open KPPP, connect and it can see the modem, attempts to initialize it and it just sits there - I have to unplug the modem and reconnect it to get it going again. /var/log/messages doesn't give any hints (everything looks normal I think) and nothing else does either -- the indicate light on the modem stays green and all that. I've tried ejecting it (nope) and whatever else I can thing of (which ain't much) including reviewing Changes and Hints, READMEs and all.

Is there some setting I may have missed or a USB rule or do I need to poke the thing somehow to get it going? USB-Modeswitch automagically figures out what the device is and does its settings (so there's no "conf" file any more - unless I really missed something there).

Ubuntu Servers :: AMD Turbo Core Not Working On 10.10?

Mar 18, 2011

I have installed Ubuntu server 10.10 on my new computer which uses AMD Phenom II X6 1090T. But I have noticed that my CPU cores were not able to run at 3.6GHz at any time, even when I only have one CPU-intensive computing job. They are either at 3.2 GHz or 800 MHz, like this

Code:

$ cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep -i "cpu Mhz"
cpu MHz: 800.000
cpu MHz: 3200.000
cpu MHz: 3200.000

[code]....

My maximum CPU frequency seems to be locked at 3.2 Ghz:

Code:

$ dmesg | grep "pstate 0"
[ 1.595918] powernow-k8: 0 : pstate 0 (3200 MHz)

I goggled around and it seems that Linux 2.8.35 kernel have solved the problem. I just do not understand why it does not work on mine.

Code:

$ uname -a
Linux hogwarts 2.6.35-22-server #35-Ubuntu SMP Sat Oct 16 22:02:33 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux
