Where are the definitions for C library functions located? It was just recently that I realized that header files don't actually define any functions, they merely include their prototypes.
For instance, stdio.h includes the following line:
Code:
This just means that the definition of printf() is located in another file. What file? Is there some kind of default shared object file that is automatically included during compilation?

I am using dd_rhelp to recover data from a failed 80Gb hard drive with Windows XP and PGP encryption.
My question: How do you mount a drive encrypted with PGP under Windows on a Linux box?
My scenario...
1. I am new to Linux
2. I do not know the PGP passphase
3. I am using Ubuntu and Knoppix
4. I have another 80Gb drive as the target drive
5. Source (bad) drive /dev/sdc1 drive is attached via a SATA-to-USB adapter
6. Target (good) drive /dev/sda1 drive is installed in laptop
My Problem....
Copies data from source to target drive with many errors. When I view the files copied to the target disk they file names are gibberish (extend character sets for file names) with huge file sizes (up to 9Gb).
I plug the target drive into a Windows laptop and it does not recognize it, even though it was formatted as ntfs.

I have a problem using PGP encryption. I am running Windows 7 operating system. I have PGP working perfectly fine when running manually through DOS mode (cmd.exe): gpg -ase --always-trust --batch --passphrase myphrase --output c: estdir estfile.csv.pgp -r someword c:estdir estfile.csv
Now the problem happens when I am trying to run same script in Perl in the browser (Perl + IIS are installed locally on my PC). The error I am getting is: gpg: no default secret key: No secret key gpg: C:\testdir\testfile.csv: sign+encrypt failed: No secret key
From what I understand, the secret key is created under my user profile. IIS runs under some default user name, so it does not see the secret key. I am not sure how to solve this problem.

Is there a simple latex-compliant text editor (gedit or something else easy to learn) for linux that supports reading and writing MS Windows files? It the editor doesn't support it, I may choose to wrap the files in "unix2dos" or something.
My girlfriend is about to start a new project at her MS Windows oriented university, and I'd love to set her up with latex (both there and at home) and linux at home. I'm aiming at having her SSH'ing into the university's systems, and use a simple text editor to edit her latex files that must be MS Windows compliant.
Furthermore, it's important that the files are encrypted. Is it possible to encrypt a folder on MS Windows at school, and decrypt it at home using linux?

I've a Lenovo G50-80T with W8.1. I want to install Debian 8.1 in dualbooting mode. I've done this other times without problems. But this time I want encrypt the Linux partition (not the Windows partition). I'll use dm-crypt to do that. I want to know if this way is secure for protect the data on Linux partition or if I need encrypt the entire drive.

I would love to be able to use TrueCrypt consistently across all my machines, be they Windows or Linux. As it stands, I can do full-disk encryption with pre-boot authentication only on Windows.
I don't really understand why this is. Are there technical challenges specific to Linux/Mac that make full disk encryption harder? Does anyone know whether TrueCrypt will support this in the near future.
PS. yes, I'm aware that there are other options. My goal is to simplify my life here and use the one tool across all machines.

I've been wanting to do this for a while and after upgrading some of my pc components I decided I would finally try to dual boot with full disk encryption on both windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.10. I managed to encrypt the windows drive with truecrypt and that worked. I installed Ubuntu 9.10 using the alternate cd and everything but /boot is in an encrypted LVM. Each OS is on a separate SATA drive the windows is on sda1 and ubuntu /boot is sdb1.
To setup the dual boot I started out following the tutorial [url] but its for XP and versions of ubuntu that use grub not grub 2. I ran dd as posted and saved the files it produced from truecrypt. I then ran into some problems with grub reinstallation so I simply reinstalled Ubuntu 9.10 from scratch again. This put grub 2 on the computer. I've managed to get it to add a Windows 7 option.
However, when the option is selected truecrypt comes up and says that the bootloader is corrupted and that I need to use the repair CD I burned before I encrypted the drive. My question is does anyone have any experience dual booting using Truecrypt on Windows 7 and LUKS/dm-crypt on Ubuntu 9.10 with grub 2? And how would I get the boot menu to work? I'd rather not reinstall but if I have to I have images from right before I encrypted so it wouldn't be the end of the world.

After recently converting my old pentium 4 pc into a linux machine because of being sick with viruses and malware I was very happy with how robust Ubuntu is. The only problem I had when converting it to Ubuntu was that Apple doesn't have iTunes for linux. In the meantime I had been using my netbook pc with windows xp for my itunes needs, podcasts etc. Because I have 2 iPod's I wasn't going to bother with the hassel of getting iPod's sync'd to Ubuntu as well.
So today I finally decided enough was enough and was going to figure out how to get iTunes working, I had been using Wine since I installed Ubuntu to run uTorrent because it enable schedule downloading.
So enough blabbering, here is a quick explanation of how to get your windows music library onto your Ubuntu machine.
NOTE: ITUNES STILL ISNT COMPLETELY STABLE, FREEZING MAY OCCUR EVERY NOW AND THEN DEPENDING ON YOUR MACHINE AND SOFTWARE UPDATES! PROCEED WITH CAUTION!
1) First off, you need to install Wine which you can find at winehq.org
2) You will need to make sure you know EXACTLY where all your songs are. I suggest putting them on an external hard drive to transfer them over to your windows machine.
3) On your windows machine go to File > Library > Export library. And you cant put that file onto your external harddrive as well.
4) So now you have a copy of your itunes library and you have installed Wine, you now need a windows version of iTunes which you can find at any old apps related site. So far iTunes 7.2 works with best for me with Ubuntu 8.10 you can get this from many sites that still host old apps. The latest version of iTunes does not work at all for me, but this doesnt really matter.
5) After installing iTunes you may get an error explaining how you cannot burn discs to itunes, click OK.
6) Now you are ready edit your itunes library xml. Right click on your itunes xml and click 'open with text editor'. Click 'REPLACE' at the top of the screen and type the file path for the song in the 'FIND' field. {For example if the song was 8 Mile by Eminem then in the itunes XML it will say something like C:/my documents/my music/eminem/8mile. You would now type in the FIND FIELD C:/my documents/my music/.} Now that you have typed in the file path for your old music library it's time to time type in the path of the location of your new music library. {For example if your new music is on a external harddrive it will be /media/western digitaldrive/} You now type in the REPLACE field the path of your new music. Then click REPLACE ALL. Then click save as and call it the date of the library in case the xml you typed is wrong you wont have to go and get another copy of your itunes library xml.
6) Now you saved your library, open iTunes and click File > Add file to library and add your itunes library xml by clicking Open.
7) Now go for a walk outside and have a cup of coffee while you wait, this can take some time. For all my 8,802 songs it took 15minutes to import.

I have been working on this for a long time.
I could get the static libcurl library ( a "libcurl.lib" file and a "curl.h" file), which supposed to be working under Windows.
Yet I tried Visual c++ 6.0 but it wasn't working at all.
Some idea on that ? I don't mind to try MinGW and Dev C++ if it will really work. (Cygwin is not good since it require client to have cygwin.dll in run-time folder).

I'm reading about shared, static, and dynamic libraries. What is SDL? Is it static, shared, or dynamic?
I always thought a library would be a lot of .h and .cpp files compiled separately into .o files and then if you compiled your own program you could use the -l parameter to link the library and it was all compiled together. Now I'm not so sure.
I don't even see any SDL .cpp files in my system anywhere. All I have are lots of SDL .h files in /usr/include/SDL and I don't really understand the code in them.
I'm making a wild guess here: SDL is a shared library. SDL itself is NOT compiled into my program, therefore SDL must be on any system my program tries to run on. When I compile and link SDL all it needs is the header files to know what SDL function and objects it can use. And then on every system it uses an already compiled SDL shared library thingy somewhere.
So... where is that part of SDL? All I can find are header files.
I'm thinking the advantage of shared libraries is that someone could say update SDL on their own system and take advantage of the new features without having to download new executables with the new version of SDL compiled into them for every program that uses SDL.
So if I'm making an editor and a game engine and they both use a lot of the same .cpp and .h files that I wrote and I'm tired of updating one and then the other and I need to turn them into a library, then a shared library might be kind of a silly solution. I could just make a static library. Right? Because it's not SDL. Nobody else is ever going to use this library.

I am building an active directory and using BIND9 as my DNS. To allow for secure dynamic updates from the domain, I am enabling GSS-TSIG as detailed here and here. Unfortunately, some of the commands and configurations used here seem to be depreciated, at least in the newer versions that I'm using. My issue is one of keytab encryption. I generated a keytab using ktpass.exe on the Windows Server 2008 domain controller. I have tried DES/MD5, AES128/SHA1 and AES256/SHA1, each have been turned down by ktutil on the kerberos server (FreeBSD). Each time, it outputs the following error: ktutil: AES256/SHA1*: encryption type AES256/SHA1* not supported *Respective to encryption used.
I cannot find a list of suitable encryption schemes that ktutil will accept. The FreeBSD handbook details a means of producing a keytab file, but I'm not sure how to configure the Domain Controller to use the keytab.

I think that the solution is very simple, but I cannot reach this solution. I'm trying to build an B.so that uses A.so.
A.so is compiled using C;
B.so is compiled using C++;
Inside "Aso.h" file I'had declared:
Code:
#ifdef __cplusplus
extern "C" {
#endif
[code]....
There's no error to compile that, this library seems to be compiled correctly, but using the "nm" command the Aso.so functions appear with "U" of undefined. Trying to build an executable using the Bso.so library, I got this error: /lib/../lib/libBso.so: undefined reference to `foo(int, int, int)' I think that to solve this problem it's only link the Aso.so with the .o files generated at the compilation phase of my Bso. Using the "ldd" command I'm able to see that Bso.so depends on Aso.so, so what am I missing?

I have a Dell Inspiron Duo. Running Ubuntu 10.10 On my laptop, the enable/disable wireless and my F2 key share the same space and I need to press the Fn key to use F2 (I know supposed to go other way). But sometimes, they trade places. Where I that If I press the Fn key, it would enable/disable the wireless connections instead of doing F2.
What could be causing this and how do I stop it. This happens with not only my F2 key, but all the F functions. Also does anyone know how to reenable wireless after disabling it in Ubuntu. Pressing the enable/disable button does nothing after disabling and would require a boot to windows to reenable it.

I have an Msi Wind u100+. Between the right hand Alt Gr and CTRL keys there is a key that looks like a menu. It seems to have the same function as a right mouse click. I want to know how to change this specific keys' function, such as use it to launch a terminal or another Super key. Ive tried Keyboard Shortcuts but its main right click function prevails. Also, searchng the forums and google only brings up how to change the entire keyboard layout to DVORAK or something and that's not what I want to do.

i have lost left and right click functions in mouse and touchpad. This only happens when in a window - as in running App. when on top or bottom bar L&R click function normally and on cairo doc too. but inside any APP window left click turns into a hand and grabs it and moves the whole window around. Right click pops up the menu to close it , move workstation Right or Left etcetc So it is like the whole window is now like the title bar area
i have to hold Shift+control down to have normal mouse/touchpad function
I was playing with the Sugar App and its an emulator an educational toy for kids
it tells you to hold shift+control down so you can move the mouse out of the sugar window
and to hold Shift+control+any key for keyboard function
god knows what keys i hit
get my mouse / touchpad functions back
i have already removed all the SUGAR apps via synaptic
