Nov 24, 2010Is there a way to find out with what options a library was configured with when it was installed? I am trying to install a library on my system that depends on gasnet and it requires me to configure it with the very same options that gasnet was configured with. Gasnet was not originally installed by me, so I cannot tell. I can see bin/, include/, lib/ and share/ directories in the gasnet folder and no other information in it. To be specific, I need to use the same CFLAGS that were used during installation of gasnet. For example, if it was installed using '-g -O2', I have to make sure I use the same CFLAGS here.

I would like to activate 802.1x authentication on the Windows PCs, and have the Linux Box play the role of a 802.1x authenticator (blocking all access to the Internet until the Windows PCs have properly authenticated themselves using the 802.1x protocol, and the Linux Box checks the credentials by interrogating the RADIUS server).
I could theoretically insert a 802.1x-capable switch between the Windows PCs and the Linux Box, but this setup is embedded and the hardware cannot be changed.
Apparently the OpenWRT project solved the problem somehow, so there must be an open-source solution somewhere, but I simply cannot find it. The only links I find are for the Open1X project (http://open1x.sourceforge.net/), but the Docs link is dead.

Now I want to include the lzo library in the source code of linux.According to the instructions given in the package, I have copied the files (minilzo.c,minilzo.h,lzoconf.h,lzodefs.h)in the source directory(/mm),added minilzo.o to my Makefile and have included(#include minilzo.h) from my program. But when I compile the kernel,I am getting errors.
Errors:

It does work well, but I have to manually start the koha-zebra-ctl.sh by entering /usr/share/koha/bin/koha-zebra-ctl.sh start The is, however, that this starts at boot from /etc/init.d/koha-zebra-daemon. Like /etc/init.d/koha-zebra-daemon start (does not work now) In the koha-zebra-daemon file I have:

I have made a symbolic link;
ln -s /usr/share/koha/bin/koha-zebra-ctl.sh /etc/init.d/koha-zebra-daemon
I have tried checking whether the symbolic link exists with readlink, but this never seems to return anything anywhere.

Feb 17, 2010I am mainly a Windows admin, but I do *NIX administration from time to time, for now I need to use an open source solution for backup windows environment mainly, I spent last days playing with bacula and backupPC, and I then chose backupPC, I built a solution with it seems working not bad, but before i go on deeper, I thought asking geeks here better, my main experience with back was with Vertias/Symantec Backup Exec, what do you recommend as most similar backup solution in Ubuntu offer a close level (I don't backup to tapes I back to hard disks), also a gui is preferred, while backupPC do a nice work and i handled its client config file (machine_name.pl), but I still do mistakes sometimes and troubleshooting is annoying, I have to backup files from users machines some of these files are running (like PST files), and I could need to backup a database or something from time to time. so whats your opinion all?

Mar 26, 2010I would like an old desktop box to use my laptop as a router to access the internet. Here is my setup:
I have one ethernet port in the side of my laptop which I want to use to get internet access to my desktop computer. The laptop is connected to the LAN via a wireless link. Both systems run Linux. The desktop autoconfigures itself using DHCP. The laptop is a Kubuntu system. I do not have any crossover cables, though wireshark on the laptop sees the DHCP requests from the desktop just fine, so I doubt that I need one.
What do I have to do to make this work?

I get as far as "Allocate drive space" but there are no partitions to choose from. I now have a problem, because my Windows Vista has been wrapped up in the Linux partitioning system. I know it is located at dev/sda1 and that it is an HPFS/NTFS filetype, create a dual boot drive on my notebook, so that I can happily play with both systems. Nov 18, 2009i have recently started my masters degree program and i have to install fedora 11 for one of my courses. The problem is when i try to install fedora 11 on my laptop, it wipes out my windows vista installation. I want to keep vista. I have a sony vaio laptop model VGN-FW340D. 4GB RAM and 400 GB HD. i first shrink my hard drive to free up around 100 GB. Then i run fedora 11 DVD and let it make the partitions on my free space.. I have tried everything.. I chose use free space the first time, but i didnt work, it wiped out my vista, next time i chose custom layout and defined boot, root and swap partitions , but again it wiped out my vista.. I have read many guides to dual boot vista and fedora and have carried them out step by step, but nothing works.... Also i dont have vista installation DVD, i just have the recovery CDs, so everytime it wipes out my vista, i have to do system recovery, ive been trying for a week now, and its driving me crazy, i asked a friend of mine to help me out, he has dual boot system, and he tried it and it did the same thing, wiped out my vista... i just have one drive C: with two partitions, one small partitions which contains recovery files, and the rest of the partition has vista.......

I really like it now but at first I just dual-booted it, and now I want Vista gone. Being linux, one should in principle get the source codes for everything that has been precompiled (except the proprietary drivers such as nvidia) in the installation DVDs/CDs. Where are the source codes ? Is there a place I can download them ?
To avoid confusion, I am not referring to the kernel source that can be compiled to give a linux kernel, but that does not include the drivers, such as intel_drv.so.
To be more specific, the intel graphic i810 driver has been built into any linux system, but where is the exact source? One answer may be that primary source intellinuxgraphics.com. However, if anyone tries to download the every changing (i.e., keep updated almost every single day) driver source codes from freedesktop.org, it is almost certain that the source codes will not be the same as the one that is finalized in Fedora 10.
