Software :: Installing Quicken 99 Basic Using Wine?

Aug 21, 2010

I installed Quicken properly the 1st time I tried but had to install a different distro of Ubuntu, now I can't find what I'm missing. I have installed and upgraded Ubuntu 9.4, installed and configured wine 1.0.1-0ubuntu to emulate Win-98. I am trying to install from a Quicken 99 Basic CD mounted at /media/cdrom0. I know I must open a terminal and cd /media/cdrom0.

I think the command to use in terminal is: wine setup.exe

But which setup.exe? There are at least six!
1 each in the following directories:/canmff/disk1
/canqtax
/dao/disk1
/disk1
/qbtrial/can (Quickbooks trial Canada so not this one)
/qbtrial/us - (Quickbooks trial US so not this one)

I believe it is the one at /disk1 but I am not certain! Each time I used the wrong one it didn't record an uninstall log and I had to reinstall the OS twice just to remove faulty installations of Quicken.

So, although I'm somewhat ashamed to ask for help once again, I sure would appreciate a little more guidance. I think I remember seeing someone use the following in a post. Experience is a hard teacher. It is indeed!

Ubuntu :: Quicken 2000 Basic Won't Run In 10.04 WINE

Nov 10, 2010

I had to upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04 after 9.04 stopped being supported and now I can't run Quicken 2000 Basic in WINE anymore when it ran just fine under 9.04 using WINE When I try to install it from the CD ROM it gives me this error The file '/media/QWINMMR1F/install.exe' is not marked as executable. If this was downloaded or copied form an untrusted source, it may be dangerous to run. For more details, read about the executable bit. So I copied all the files from the Quicken CD to my hard drive and installed it from that folder and it completed installation without any installation errors but when I run Quicken and try to open the qdata.qdf file Quicken gives me a "can't open file" error.

I then removed WINE and installed the latest BETA Version now I can install from the CD but still get the "can't open file" error from Quicken. It worked fine under 9.04 and WINE and I could update the info in Ubuntu and it would show up under Windows and if I'd update in Windows it would show up under Linux. Now in Ubuntu 10.04 it does not work.

Ubuntu :: Menu Bars Are A Basic Light Gray After Installing Graphics Card Driver

Feb 7, 2011

I've just installed Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit.

It came up saying I could install 2 proprietary drivers, one for my WiFi adapter (which works perfectly) and one for my graphics card - a Sapphire AIT Radeon HD 5770 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card. The driver is called ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver. Before installing this driver I was unable to have Extra Visual Effects in Appearances. However after installing (and restarting) the menu bars are now in a basic light gray mode, rather than the sleek Ubuntu black. - Although Extra Visual Effects does now work. I've tried rebooting, and I've had a look around in ATI "Catalyst Control Center" but nothing has worked so far.

Does anybody know what this windows mode is, how to change it back to normal and why it's doing it in the first place?

Below is a screenshot of my computer: [URL]

This is also the first time I've installed Ubuntu on my computer, and am keen for it to work.

Ubuntu :: Where To Get Quicken 200 Alternitive?

Nov 11, 2010

Is there a program compatible with Quicken 2000 BASIC's QDF file that can load a Quicken 2000 Bsic QDF file and display the contents properly the same way it appears in Quicken 2000 Basic? Or in other words is there an Ubuntu equivalent to older Quicken programs? From what I remember after a cretin version of Quicken it no longer supported any older versions files.

Ubuntu :: Half Erased Partition - Need To Restore Quicken File

Mar 20, 2011

I have a HP DV9000 laptop. The second hard drive bay doesn't support SATA II devices. I was cloning the original hard drive to the newer SATA II hard drive I purchased two swap them because bay 1 does support SATA II devices. I decided to use

Code:
dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb
to get the job done. I double/triple checked my command with fdisk -l, but my dyslexia got the better of me. I should have ran
Code:
dd if=/dev/sdb of=/dev/sda
....

I stopped the command about 1/2 hour in, it is a 160GB hdd. I tried using foremost to recover all of the files that hadn't been written over yet, but it can't recover Quicken filetypes. The ONLY thing I need off of this drive is the Quicken database. TL;DR I need to recover a quicken database file off my corrupted partition. What program can I use?

Ubuntu :: Fonts Look Different After Installing Wine?

Mar 23, 2010

I installed Wine on my machine just a few minutes ago and as part of the installation the following packages are also installed: ttf-liberation,
ttf-mscorefonts-installer, ttf-symbol-replacement, ttf-tahoma-replacement. These add extra fonts to the system which I'm assuming are required by windows programs running inside Wine. The problem is though that Firefox also seems to be using these fonts because the fonts now look different inside Firefox. Not a huge difference, but you can tell they are different and they just don't look "right" to the eye. They are no longer as pleasing as they were when Firefox was using the default Ubuntu fonts.

Is there a way to keep these fonts for use by Wine, but not allow any other program on Ubuntu to use them?

Fedora :: Install Library's Before Installing Wine In 11?

I recently installed Fedora 11 with VMware workstation. I downloaded the Wine file (wine-1.0.1.tar.bz2 and wine-1.0.1.tar.bz2.sign, its a source archive i think)from [URL]. Those two files are now in my flash disk. I went throught the wine user guide but they haven't explained about how to install it in detail, but i found that, "Compiling & installing Wine from source is slightly more difficult than using a package".

I went to [URL] looking for packages but again its saying, i should install some library's before building Wine and leads to [URL]. I went there & found a web page with some codes.

Software :: Installing Nvidia Physx Under Wine?

Mar 29, 2011

I see that winetricks includes physx, but when I either run that, or just run the physx installer executable under wine, a dialogue pops up that tells me I need to reboot before installing. Hitting either yes or no shuts down the program and creates a file at "~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Common Files/Wise Installation Wizard/". Running the program a second time yields exactly the same results. I've tried deleting my ~/.cache/winetricks folder.

Is there a way to have the program think I've rebooted already, or to circumvent the reboot dialogue? How does this normally work successfully running 'winetricks physx'? I've got winetricks version 20110105, wine-1.2.2, and I'm running on Slackware64 13.0 using the proprietary 64-bit nvidia driver 260.19.44.
