Software :: How To Setup Net Connection In Fedora 14
Mar 1, 2011
installed fedora 14 and trying to set up network connection but when i enter in to network configuration i am not getting active & deactive enabled how to make these enabled?
I am trying to setup a wireless connection between F10 and a HP J6480. I dnloaded the linux driver hplip-3.9.2, disabled the SELinux and ran the install. When I choose method of connecting - wireless it would not discover the device. The only way was to enable the USB descovery. Doing so, the computer found the printer and all is fine. What am I missing trying to enable the wireless connection. Note, that during this process, the USB was not connected. Also, I dual boot with Vista and I can run the printer wireless.
Fresh installation of Fedora 14 x86-64 on Lenovo T510. I'm trying to setup graphical remote connection to this laptop via VNC. I installed vnc-server package and altered /etc/sysconfig/vncservers accordingly:
I found Remote Desktop which opens vino-preferences and ticked the check boxes there. I started vnc-server and then I tried to connect to it from the same local host using vncviewer. I got no errors and the window with correct resolution came up. The problem is - that window is black and empty. I tried looking into Fedora docs but I haven't found anything useful there. I tried google and I found about 487693746874363 solutions and different ways of installing and configuring VNC server. I tried a few - none helped.
I wonder if there is a decent and consistent documentation about how to make remote desktop working in Fedora without having a real pain in the ass trying out those gazillion tweaks and tricks from various forums and blogs? After all Fedora 14 comes with that Remove Desktop thing available out of the box. Is it a real working thing or just a marketing Should I uninstall all the preinstalled VNC stuff and follow one of those painful instructions found on the internet from A to Z praying for it to eventually start working after all the magic is done and hours or days are wasted?
I installed the Kde desktop and i'm unable to setup a broadband dsl connection i have done the settngs in network manager gave password username service name etc. but the option for connection doesnt appear the connection works properly in windows as well as gnome 3 desktop but not in kde
I am trying to setup multipath with failover policy on openSuSE 11. I have two qla2xxx HBA's installed and they appear to be working. Here is the output of "multipath -l" command
[Code]....
While testing, I pulled one of the two connection to SAN, and the connection failed over to second HBA connection to SAN. When I plug the cable back in, it does not fall back to original connection... It stays in failed state. Also, I noticed that failed disk (sdd disk) comes back as (sdg disk), which is probably why connection does not fall back to original HBA. But, when I run "/sbin/service multipathd restart" sdg disk shows as as enabled in multipath -l...
I am running an Ubuntu Server on a VirtualBox VM running on my windows machine. So I've created a self-signed certificate using the following tutorial: [URL]
From this tutorial I'm left with 3 files: server.key server.csr server.crt
Then I found this very similar tutorial that has an extra bit on installing the certificates in apache: [URL] So I followed it's instructions which boil down to this:
[Code]...
So I'm thinking this should work now. However in Chrome I get: SSL connection error Unable to make a secure connection to the server. This may be a problem with the server, or it may be requiring a client authentication certificate that you don't have. Error 107 (net::ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR): SSL protocol error. IE8 gives me a typical "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" Note that [URL] fails while [URL] works fine, so it's definitely something in my ssl setup I'm thinking.
I'm trying to setup PPPoE connection to establish my DSL connection, but I got
Code: pppoe[3885]: read (asyncReadFromPPP): Session 4479: Input/output error pppd[4104]: Cannot determine ethernet address for proxy ARP in my sylog file.
When I do pppoe-start, it connected but I cannot ping into any destination (even to my modem in the same network). DNS servers are explicitly set in pppoe.conf and resolv.conf. Did I miss anything?
I am trying to Setup citrix ICA client 9 on Ubuntu 9.04 Server. I installed it very easily and I am not getting any lib error also. But when I try to connect to the citrix server, it fails with a pop up saying "Error in Network Connection Network or Dialup connection may be preventing ......" This is driving me crazy from 3 days. My project is to check the feasiblity of a Linux desktop
I use 10.04. I have network-manager, openvpn, pptp installed open vpn requires some certification files that I don't know where to get from and the guys who are providing the vpn for me don't offer any, actually they don't know anything about Linux and Ubuntu. I can easily make a connection for windows xp but in Ubuntu...
For pptp: I enter my gateway as the "host in win XP": vpn.their-website.com my user name: ***** my pass: *****
I leave the NT Domain field empty since I have no idea what it is? Apply, and the connection will be created. But, now, how the hell am supposed to connect? I looked all over the net but nothing! And please don't refer to something in panel (the network notification icon) I have deleted all the panels and in main panel I've removed every icon, tell me what to do in menus or in terminal.
In our company we (I) have recently setup a Ubuntu Machine on an old Dimension 8300 to act as a download machine. The reason for this is alot of Tax websites Push word and excel documents through their website as the viewer needs it and we have our WatchGuard setup to block all downloads. So i created this Linux Box to be hooked up to the DMZ in order to have the ability to download these files among other things then scan them for viruses, then put them on a flash drive to let the person have it.
First i Setup VNC so i can remotely maintain this server without leaving my desk because i am Lazy, however it is still on our network so i am able to remote in.Step Two was to set it up on the DMZ. So i thought easy enough just setup an IP, and preferred DNS for it and ill be done. how i would go about Setting up a DMZ connection
Well I installed ubuntu, a fresh install. And where the connection thing is on the top bar it had a red "!" And it wasn't connectin to the internet... Its weird because in the livecd I was in "try ubuntu" and it auto connected to my internet... I deleted "auto eth0" to see if it fixed but it didn't I want to know how to connect to my wired internet adsl?
I have this strange problem. I can't setup my PPPoE connection through the kPPPoE. My ISP told me that this PPPoE has something like name server or something like that and i must use some other package to connect.
I recently took a WIRED internet connection (from the people who provide cable TV) and switched from ubuntu to openSUSE11.2. . I am not able to set up an internet connection in openSUSE 11.2. I have been given a static IP, and the following info

Today I switched from Ubuntu to OpenSuse. But I can't setup my Ethernet connection.I have 2 PCs connected with a crossover cable, one with Ubuntu, the other with OpenSuse 11.3. Lights are on in both NICs.
am finding it very hard to get a wireless connection working, I am using openSUSE 10.3 (i586)and I have a Edimax EW-7711UTn USB adaptor, I have tried to follow the instructions on this forum and I think I have set it up using YaST2 but I still can not connect to the internet.
I've very recenty installed Ubuntu v 9.10(64amd) but am unable to setup my internet connection.I've gone through quite a few posts where other users have faced the same trouble trying to setup a DSL connection.I've entered all my Ip4 settings as they are on Win..but that hasn't helped. That didn't open my modem settings page either.Modem model : SmartAX MT882 connected via Ethernet and not USB.Can't quite figure out what I'm doing wrong/need to do.
I've just done a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 lucid lynx and how to setup a pppoe connection in ubuntu. ( thats after 2 hours of googling and trial and error)
system info: its a laptop : Dell Studio XPS 16 connected to a Ethernet hub thats connected to a dsl modem..
I recently setup ubuntu 9.10 in my desktop..I don't know whether the connection is dialup or not. I used the connection with cable connection. I have got the following information from my ISP:
User name: n372_asad_go@brisksys.net service name: brisknb password: 16251521
I followed the tutorial found here [URL] but when I try to access [URL] I get the following: Code: Secure Connection Failed An error occurred during a connection to www.mydomain.com. SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length. (Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long) Not sure what I might have done wrong... I have retraced all of my steps and I don't believe I missed anything.
I have recently installed Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Server Edition, with no GUI. I can't connect to internet, and therefore I can't use commands like "apt-get update" I do not even know how to configure this server yet. I need my server to connect to Internet through my wireless card (I have no cable connexion for now).
My adsl modem is in bridge mode. I can connect to internet via pppoe . pppoeconf recognise the pppoe in eth0 and setup a connection and I can use it. How can I setup a pppoe connection using pppoeconf so that it uses wireless ? I set the wireless mode to bridge in modem settings. But, after that the access point stopped appearing in "aps in range" in network manager and I can't connect to it. pppoeconf also doesn't recognise wlan0 as a valid pppoe link . but dat is normal since i don't think it can check if wlan0 is pppoe without wlan0 being connected to the modem's wireless network. How can I connect to Internet with modem in bridge mode and connections via wireless interface of modem? Is pppoe over wireless even possible ? coz the datalink layer of wlan is not ethernet rite?
I have BIG troubles trying to set up wired internet connection in Ubuntu! To be able to connect to the internet I have to enter my MAC address, 2 IPs, netmask and 2 DNS address. When I try to edit the default internet connection eth0 with my correct information, the minute I enter my MAC address and save the changes the network manager creates new internet connection with wrong data and use it instead! I can't select the correct internet connection from the top bar where the internet icon is, because it is just not there. The only connection that I can choice is the new default one with the wrong data! If I try to create new separate internet connection with my correct data the same thing happens! The moment I enter my MAC address and save it, the internet connection disapears from the list of internet connections in the internet area in the top bar and I can't select it. I tried googling it, but with no luck I think that if I set up my connection trough the terminal everything will be ok

I tried setting up a adhoc wifi in my debian laptop, so that my other laptop running Ubuntu could connect to it. Though the access point made on Debian laptop is visible on Ubuntu laptop, I could not establish a connection. Then I used create new wireless network tab to create a connection named test1. Though it shows up on Ubuntu box, i couldnt connect to it.
