Slackware :: Error 1146 - Basic MySQL Configuration / Initialization

Oct 22, 2010

Do I have to do a basic configuration / initialization of mysql, like described in the following link, before I can use it? [URL] The background is, that I want to use mythtv and therefore I need a working mysql. When I tried to create the needed database, as described in the file README.SLACKWARE (included in mythtv.Slackbuild package from slackbuilds.org) with the following command, I got an error:
# mysql -u root -p < /usr/share/mythtv/database/mc.sql

The error message was:
ERROR 1146 (42S02) at line 3: Table 'mysql.servers' doesn't exist
-- integrale

I don't remember that I ever did a basic configuration but mysql was already used by joomla, and it worked right out of the box.

Slackware :: Writing Basic Bash Script To Toggle Two I8kctl Commands (fan Speed Hi/low)?

Jun 11, 2011

I'm on a Dell Inspiron 6000. I installed i8kutils and it works. Fan speed reduces CPU temp from 50C to 44C. A start-up script invokes the i8k module: $ udo /usr/sbin/modprobe i8k force=1 which creates /proc/i8k. The man page for i8kctl is straightforward: a few simple commands to read info from the aforementioned file.So. I know nothing about writing even basic bash scripts. I gave it a go here but I know this is way wrong. Would anyone like to help a guy out? This is my starting point (don't laugh):

Code:
#!/bin/bash
# script to toggle fan speed low/high

Ubuntu Networking :: When Rebooted Router Via SSH My Personal PC Did Not Renew IP

Apr 30, 2011

I have a Natty installation that I just did yesterday on my personal PC. I am not home currently, but I can access my router (uses DD-WRT), and my Media Center Machine (Ubuntu 10.10) via SSH. For some reason, when I rebooted my router via SSH my personal PC (with Natty) did not renew an IP.Is there a way I can use magic packets or any other method from my other Ubuntu machine that I have remote access to, to force that other machine to renew it's IP?

Programming :: Assign IP Address / Renew DHCP From Kernel Module?

May 14, 2010

I'm currently working with wireless network kernel module.

This device initialiy gets its IP address by using DHCP,
but the problem is sometimes the new IP assigned for internal reason.

So what I want to do is assigning new(changed)IP address into exsiting
interface, or occuring DHCP renew event to cause update IP from kernel
level. This shold be done without user's intervention, so whenever the
kernel module detects IP changed(via underlying wireless
communication), it automatically correct update its IP address.

Q1) any functions or api to cause DHCP renew event from kernel level?
Q2) or any functions or api to assign IP address to specific interface?

OpenSUSE Network :: Using As A Network Gateway - Renew DHCP Lease

Jul 15, 2010

Why trying to avoid ranting about my Linksys router, I'll try and keep things short. I have a Linksys router in which the default firmware was terrible and would not correctly renew its DHCP lease. After getting feed up with that I flashed dd-wrt on the router and now it works better but randomly DNS queries would stop being resolved. To rule out the chances that it is my ISPs DNS servers I switched my DNS to openDNS, same problem happens (although I have to admit openDNS is a lot better than what my ISP has).

Anyways I'm about feed up with it and about an inch away from drop kicking the thing out my window. To avoid that I figured I will give it one more change and instead of using my Linksys as my network gateway I'll move all of that to my home server, and make the Linksys just an wireless AP. Besides setting up DHCP, DNS, and iptables on the server is there anything else I will need to know and setup on the server to make this work?

Side note anyone using openSUSE for DHCP know if setting up reserved IPs for certain MAC address is possible?

Networking :: Renew Ip-address With Mac-address?

Jan 18, 2010

I have a dedicated control computer that can only be accessed with web-browser (with its ip-address). My DHCP-server gives a static ip-address to the control computer (base on its mac-address). Somehow and after some time the control computer looses its ip-address (can't ping to it any more) ... and then I have to reset the control computer to get it to pick up the ip-address ... this is not a good solution since the control computer is not nearby. is there a way to force the control computer to renew its ip-address based on its mac-address

Debian :: Can't Get Basic Apps

Jun 2, 2011

I'm trying to get compiz setup but it is not having any affect at all. I installed it and went to the synaptic system manager and added all the compiz plugins that were there. I restarted several times before and after going to the synaptic system manager. It said installed successfully, however it has no effect so it isn't "on" whatsoever. I have watched ..... tutorials on how to set it up. It looked easy enough but did not work for me. I have tried commands from tutorials but I don't know enough or how to edit folder contents. I think they were old tutorials anyways, I am running the newest squeeze debian distro. The 3d desktop was one reason I wanted to try linux. If I can't get the basic apps like this to work then there is no reason for me to use linux.

Naturally i don't want to harm my system but I would like I shutdown via the terminal. I understand there are shutdown poweroff and halt commands. Which is the safe one (like as if I just did it using the GUI) at the moment I am just using shutdown now and that seems to work fine, I just want to check that it's not harming my system and that this command does everything it needs to ie closes all programs and shuts everything down in a safe way.

typedef unsigned char GLboolean;
typedef unsigned int GLbitfield;
typedef signed char GLbyte;
typedef short GLshort;
typedef int GLint;

OpenSUSE Network :: Xen NAT Setup In 11.2 - No Basic Connectivity?

Feb 21, 2010

I am experimenting with Xen with the standard kernel (kernel-xen package) and utilities. I already got bridged setup to work with a single domU, but found out that because of my wireless card I cannot expect bridging to work when connected wirelessly. Now I am trying a NAT setup but I cannot seem to get any network connection from the domU to the dom0 and viceversa. Comparing the network devices and routing tables of others, I cannot see any problem.

The domU runs with IP 10.0.0.1 and the dom0 has a vif with IP 10.0.0.128 with a default gateway of 10.0.0.254. Pinging from the domU to the dom0 and viceversa does not show any traffic at all when I use tcpdump to monitor eth0 in the domU or the vif interface in dom0. It seems that basic connectivity of the vif interface and eth0 in the domU does not work. Any tips on how to debug this problem?
