View 6 RepliesI'd like to burn DVD (my pictures and some data) with a possible strong protection mechanismus, to prevent of DVD media copying and not pictures data copying. Which program can I use under Linux?
View 10 Replies View RelatedSuSE SLES10, 32 bit. I have an app which crashes with general protection often.
There is message every time in /var/log/messages:
2010-10-22T08:49:49.350476+02:00 HostName kernel: ProgramName[28023] general protection rip:404575 rsp:7fffc5656270 error:0
How do I establish relation between this message and source code? Error was observed on another host where some tests were running, now license is expired and I can't get more info nor core dump. I have to investigate what I have and try to reproduce it locally. Unfortunately original binary was stripped.Now I prepared non-stripped version. Does it has the same addresses for function as original? Is it possible to use symbol information for finding where RIP points to?
I have this project for my operating systems class and I have put together the basic flow chart to aid me in writing the program. I know how to use pipes as a buffer to hold info. I know how to create a binary semaphore. But what I dont know is this:
How to "use a delay adjustment parameter K in the critical section to adjust the speed of the display process to show that without semaphore protection the displayed contents of the buffer are randomly interleaved."
First off, I am definitely not asking anyone to give me the solution. But I do need some guidance. So I figure there will be an if statement with two options:
1. If true, use semaphore protection to enter/exit critical section
2. If false, no semaphore protection -- this is where the contents of the buffer should be interleaved.
Now does that mean that as each child process enters the non-protected critical section, it should "sleep" for a randomized time? I mean, will this allow my output to be interleaved?
So lets say my command line looks like this:
what happens to the 100? Is it randomized using rand and srand and passed as a parameter to sleep() inside the critcal section?
Is there any way to provide different methods of authentication on a apache directory (used for webDAV). I need it to use htpasswd and winbind, can't find any guides on implementing them both. Basically domain users need to be able to access the webdav and other users (who will be provided with a username and password NOT on the domain).
View 1 Replies View Relatedi have been following the guide below to setting up mail on Debian. All has gone so far ok, until I get to the part where you have to paste the following into the dovecot.conf file. If i try to restart dove cant it say it doesn't understand or cant recognize the line about mechanisms but i have checked this out word for word and it matches the guide so whats going on. The site it got the guide from is below.

I just went through a painful upgrade from 8.04 to 10 LTS. I've made a lot of progress but am still having email problems. Dovecot seems to not be able to run, the log is continually reporting:
Aug 22 23:47:34 amd64 postfix/smtpd[22298]: fatal: no SASL authentication mechanisms
Here's this section of dovecot.conf:
auth default {
mechanisms = plain login
passdb pam {

Where do I find media player on fedora 11 ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install 11.3. The iso install DVD boots up ok, says 'welcome' in far more languages than I understand, I select English & US English then all useful progress stops. It suddenly can't detect my CD/DVD (although it DID when the system booted with the CD/DVD drive selected as 1st device to try to boot). I've tried pushing the button to eject and reload the DVD, no dice. Nothing seems to work, when I finally go for shutdown it suggests I might need to load a driver. My drive is a fairly new plextor px-b940sa.
Searching the plextor corp site for linux turns up zilch as does the knowledge base at novell.com. it's all in knowing the right magics words i suppose. my chip is the intel 6 core. my mobo is asus p6x58d (actually im wondering if it's the culprit because it does some fancy tricks). i tried my store-bought 11.1 suse install disk, it has the same difficulty. i suppose a usb-linked external dvd drive might be the obvious solution (won't cost too much but fairly likely to have some problem).
I'm trying to play a wmv file in Karmic's Totem Movie Player. I get an error that "Windows Media Audio 9 decoder" is not installed. I let it search,but get no results. Where can I find this codec?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble both installing or even just booting the live CD. I have to interrupt the boot to give the nomodeset boot option.
Once I get the Ubuntu splash with the oscillating red and white dots for several moments, I get the Busybox with the error message "Unable to find a medium containing a live file system"
If I do a dmesg I then see a lot of sr0 errors. I have an onboard SCSI controller but no scsi devices. I am not sure if this matters.
Im trying to do a frugal install off the hard drive (no usb,cdrom) with unetbootin. It installs grub and then will boot the installer but is still tries to find the removable media. Whats going on????
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've installed this plugin via other guides

i've done some research around the forums and google seems i'm not the only one with this trouble....
is there an alternative server that could work for this?
What security mechanisms are used by recent versions of the Linux operating system during user authentication?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am running 10.10 x64. Every time I boot up, after logging in I am getting several error messages to the effect of:
"Cannot find /media/<various mount points>"
such as /media/sdc1, /media/sdc1/Software, etc. I *think* these are coming from Nautilus, which is starting up automatically, but not 100% certain about that. These devices DID exist at one time, but no longer (I changed the mount point). There is still /dev/sdc1 but I don't think that alone has anything to do with it. I see no evidence of them in fstab or /media. I no longer have any shortcuts to them in Nautilus either.
I was trying to change the mounting point of a usb external drive from '/media/disk' to '/media/Movies'
Here is were the stupid part takes over... I right clicked on the desktop icon for the device and selected Properties. From there I selected the Volume tab and in there I changed the mounting point to '/media/Movies' It accepted it and said the changed would take place when I unmounted it and remounted it. However, when I did this it now says it cannot be mounted as it says mount_point contains invalid characters usually /
Unfortunately, now I cannot get back into the properties to remove my error.
I recently put Linux back on my laptop (Vector) and I am trying to get any of the media players on it to recognize and play the music on my desktop, which is running Windows 7 Ultimate with WMP streaming music over my wireless network. I was wondering if this can be done, or if these features have yet, if ever, to be implemented.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm setting up a fileserver for a client which will host their client invoices. They're looking for a system whereby invoices can be converted from RTF to PDF with copy protection (no right click / copy-paste). In addition to this I'm thinking of using a one-way hash to verify document integrity.
Are there any command-line utilities for Linux which allows adding this kind of copy protection / DRM to pdf documents?
I'm using Debian 6 to host a website (with apache2) and a game server. But because of attacks to my server, my hosting company have now set it offline.

I've been attempting to back up my collection of DVDs to an external hard drive using Brasero. I've successfully ripped many of the DVDs to ISO with Brasero, but am now wondering if it'd be possible to burn these back to other discs if I bought them in the future. In other words, does Brasero leave copy protection in place and just bypass it when ripping to ISO, or does Brasero remove copy protection all together leaving me with an decrypted ISO?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have an external hard drive that is actually a 2.5" HDD from a laptop, in a hard drive enclosure. Now I have an issue, because the hard drive had linux Ubuntu installed on it, the hard drive is write protected. So I cant copy any files. I need to copy about 12GB of pictures from it, to my current comp, so I can format it. Does anyone know how I can remove the write protection so I can copy or delete files?

View 6 Replies View RelatedIs there an app for Ubuntu, or can you show me how to write a PHP, Perl, or Python script, that lets me record a webcam screenshot every 15 minutes and upload it to my Dropbox account (or FTP location)? Of course, if I'm using the webcam for something else, I'd need a way to have the script automatically detect it's in use, or to let me disable it, unless it can still run while I'm using the webcam for something else.
Basically I want to use this for help in tracking down thieves who might steal my laptop and try to fire it up. Somehow I'd like to snag the IP address and a webcam shot every 15 minutes, with about 2 days storage. Need color and 800x600 too.
I was wondering how to crack WEP WiFis.I have a WEP connection and was wondering how easy it would be for others to use my internet. I have Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. If anybody could me a link to a tutorial, it would be great. I googled it up and currently have aircrack-ng installed and am installing SWScanner.What other tools/dependencies do I need?

I know Slackware probably doesn't require too much protection from viruses or spyware, but I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to help protect it (other than Common Sense).
I ask this for 2 reasons:
1. I'm Paranoid
2. Every now and then I mistype a website I go to and it takes me to a completely different website which frightens me because of my paranoia.
So is there anything I can do to help protect Slackware, and in the rare case I get a virus is there a way to remove it directly?
Is it also possible to use Slackware (currently Master drive) to remove a virus on Windows (slave drive)?
By using this tutorial I've create PenDrive USB with LiveCD. I would like to modify it a bit. Unfortunately when I'm mounting it I receive fallowing message:
Code:
linux-n7at:/home/starach # mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt
mount: warning: /mnt seems to be mounted read-only.
How can I turn it off so I could modify my pendrive contents.
