Jul 19, 2010
I am going to add following line to the /etc/fstab file /dev/sda4 /MyApp ext3 noatime, errors=remount-ro 0 5 Does it also create directory "MyApp"? Or which kernel file is responsible for creating the directories? Also on linux, which kernel file is able to create some soft links and additional directories?

I get the following error whenever I launch bash:
Code:
mkdir: cannot create directory `/dev/cgroup/cpu/user/5900': No such file or directory
bash: /dev/cgroup/cpu/user/5900/tasks: No such file or directory
bash: /dev/cgroup/cpu/user/5900/notify_on_release: No such file or directory
It seems like it's probably from this part of .bashrc:

What does this code do, why, and what's causing it to go wrong?

I plugged in my USb drive into my computer yesterday and tried to delete a folder. I was unable to do so and got the following message
Cannot move file to trash, do you want to delete immediately? The file "my file" cannot be moved to the trash. Show Details Unable to create trashing info file: Read-only file system
So when I click on delete I get another error message:
Error while deleting.
There was an error deleting Case Study Database. Show Details Error removing file: Read-only file system
At this point I can only click on Skip, Skip All, or Cancel.
I have not changed anything on the stick recently so I dont know what is causing the problem.

Code:
$ echo 2 * 3 > 5 is a valid inequality. This will create a file in the current directory named '5' with the number '2' in it, the names of all the files in the current directory, followed by the number '3' and 'is a valid inequality.'
What I do not understand is why 'is a valid inequality' gets written to this file. I thought it would write '2', all the file names in the current directory, then '3' into the file called '5'. Why does the 'is a valid inequality.' get written to the file also?

I know this has to do with the MBR, When I looked online this is what people were told to do:

I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 11 and a few days later my ecryptfs filesystem began misbehaving in a weird way. In my home directory, many subdirectory names are duplicated verbatim. Here's an ls -F excerpt:
Desktop/
Desktop/
Documents/
Documents/
Downloads/
Downloads/
I can no longer access files in those directories (if I ls the directory, it appears empty; I can cd to it, but there's nothing inside). Not all of the directories are duplicated/damaged like this, but most are. A few non-directory files are also duplicated in this fashion, so for example:

I would like to create a directory public_html/archive that is a mirror of public_html/images, except that deletions in the images directory don't cause corresponding deletions in archive.
I was going to manage all of this in code, but then I figured, maybe the system can handle it for me in a robust way.
Note that the website will reference archive in real time, so it has to be an instant mirror and not something done nightly, etc.

I'm working with a dual-boot laptop running Ubuntu 10.0/Windows 7 and a Debian 5 VPS while the OS's shouldn't have much impact on my question.
What I would like to do is create a html page that I can upload to my VPS which lists all of the files/folders on my local 2TB hard drive (Specifically media such as Movies, Music, TV Shows...). The media obviously will not reside on the server, but I would like to at least have a list which will allow me to select, for instance, a bands artist so that it redirects me to the albums in the directory below.
Ultimately, I'm looking for Open Directory Browsing without actually having the media on my server. I have been attempting to create something to this effect using lynx, however, I'm not sure if it can be done with this command or if it's even possible for that matter.

Why am I trying to create folders in the file system you ask? I'm messing around with Drupal and I want to add some modules. So I need to go to the blablabla/sites/ folder and add an 'all' folder followed by a 'modules' folder. No problem, right? Wrong? It seems I don't have the rights to create folders in the file system ( which I only recently figured out is actually root. duh. )I've figured out that I was able to install all the LAMP parts because I was using 'sudo' before every command, which apparently grants me temporary rights to root? ( I think? )Sooo... what's the magic for creating folders and transferring files to my Drupal folder... which it seems requires root permissions?

I have set up a dual boot system with Windows XP and Ubuntu 9.10. I have upgraded Ubuntu to the most current version available online. I'm unable to create folders or subfolders in the Linux file system. I have researched the manual and my Unbuntu Linux book and see that I should be able to click on 'File' from the menu, then 'Create Folder', and then input the new folder name, but the 'Create Folder' selection is 'grayed' out which I conclude means that it is set on inactive and unable to be used. I am able to access my Windows disk by mounting and then typing in my password, so I have Administrator privileges.
I'm able to create a new folder in Unbuntu Linux for my Windows (NTFS) files. When I installed Unbuntu, I did not see any options to have write access to the Ubuntu file system. I can create new files within the existing folders. Soon after working out my Linux problems, I will be using PHP/MySQL/Apache to do some important work, so I will need to be able to create new folders and subfolders in my Linux system. I have some urgent tasks I need to do away from my PC soon, so I will be a while before getting back to this.
