I am using OpenSUSE 11.3 with GNOME "attached". My problem is that Nautilus has become a burden for me and my simple needs. I often encounter a slow responsiveness (lag) and a slow speed browsing throughout folders/files. I have installed Dolphin and i wish to set it up as my default File Manager.

I have about a dozen window managers installed, and just to test the new KDE 4.4 update I used kde for one day (use gnome mostly) and now the gnome places menu opens up the kde file manager dolphin instead of nautilus. How can I change it. It doesn't even appear in the edit menus item on right clicking the menu.
View 4 Replies View RelatedTrying the various settings (and noticing ubuntu gnome users recently had the same exact OPPOSITE problem -- they can't SHOW hidden files in dolphin) to hide my hidden files in dolphin is not working. The settings are saved OK, but those damn (ending in tilde, ie "~") files do NOT ever hide! I even see the correct little green recycling symbol on them, indicating they're identified as such, but no actual hiding goes on..
Nautilus, which I've used before (but have grown tired of, and was looking forward to dolphin), also has a weird issue that seems to have appeared with FC13 (I'd been using FC12 'til now mostly because of this) - there's no way (AFAIK) to tell it to show the location; to see it, you have to click Go->Location each time. Previously I could set it to print out the whole file or server path and it would stay that way when I opened new windows.. This is on fresh install & update.. kernel is 2.6.35.11-83.fc14.x86_64.
Just yesterday I did a fresh install on my aspire one of ubuntu 11.04. It then installed konqueror and (apperently at the same time dolphin). Now I did allot of googling and now it works to a level that if i press home folder in my unity bar it opens in Dolphin.Nice But the most important thing still doesnt work, that is if I want to save a document from libreoffice or pdf or what ever program it still opens a window of nautilus. I need it to be a window of dolphin because nautilus doesnt understand the networkdirs you can make with dolphin. (makeing a nautilus network dir doesnt work).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was wondering is there were any other file managers for Ubuntu other than nautilus and dolphin, And it has to have a GUI, I like nautilus, but I cant stand the way it's tabs are now (compared to how they were in karmic) also nautilus is a little slow for my liking, dolphins tabs are fine, but I use gnome and it looks terrible outside of KDE.

I know there are other vendors that do have, for example, DropBox, but for different reasons, are not an option for me. I really like the buttons to switch from detailed/icon/preview modes, and the show hidden file button is nice. the close button becomes 'split' when only a single pane is open. plus the tab feature is present, but not shown in the image. having a terminal at the bottom is great, others I have tried only seem to have a single command line at most. and the left panel is real convenient for switching between mounts.
I have tried xnc, gnome commander, and tux commander. None of them seem to have the right stuff.
how to get a right click option to encrypt a file in nautilus. Per the subject line, right click works ok in the other two applications but doesn't seem to have integrated into nautilus. (both KGpg and Seahorse are installed and each seems to work correctly).

1. Server with ldap for authentication and autofs maps
2. Client machines have home directories on this server (nfs3) these machines also have some 'shared' directories on the same server (nfs4)
Now if I use a terminal I can always create files in the shared directories (subject to the relevant permissions) - I can also always save files in OO and the like. The problem is that Dophin sometimes has the create greyed out and sometimes it doesn't. So now I am at a loss as to why. This is 11.2 with kde 4.4.3 btw

Now, when I click on Places and anything (say Desktop), Krusader starts up (I set krusader to the default in KDE).
Where do I change this? I can't find the location in preferences to change this.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI rely heavily on Gnome-Do to open folders in Nautilus.
This worked just fine in Ubuntu Desktop. However, in Openbox it opens folders in Chromium.
This is annoying for two reasons:
One, obviously i would like to view the selected folders in Nautilus.
And, two, i would like to set Firefox 4 as the browser of choice when opening anything via Gnome-Do. It is set as my browser of choice in Preferred Applications.
I have searched for configuration files, but see no entry i could modify, and would not know where to begin writing my own commands.
I am sure many people must use Gnome-Do in Openbox. If you are one of them, did you encounter similar issues? If so, how did you fix them?

I cannot use preview function in Dolphin to preview JPG files that the size is bigger than 3MB. It is no problem when the photos' size are smaller than 3MB. Do any one got the same problem?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just installed suse 11.3 and I have a problem in previewing images. Dolphin does preview the images, but they look corrupted. When I point with the mouse, images are shown perfectly on the information area on the right. I found that as I increase the preview size from the default 64 pixels to the maximum 256 pixels, most of the images are previewed correctly, but will only have 3 images per row
View 4 Replies View RelatedAnyone have any ideas as to why this is happening. I am able to start Dolphin normally either via keyboard shortcut or application launcher menu.
However if I close or exit out of the application I am then unable to open it again. Instead I get a bouncy icon and and spinning circle in the task bar and then nothing ......
Running a ps aux | grep from the CLI gives me the following processes that must be manually killed before I can reopen Dolphin.

any suggestions? I have tried disabling nepomuk and strigi thinking that might have been an issue but I still get the same problem. I also tried removing dolphinrc and dolphin from ~/.kde4/share/config and ~/.kde4/share/apps respectively... still no bueno.

Dolphin crashes when previewing PNG files - with other image files (PS, PDF, JPG, DVI) when you roll the mouse over the file you get a preview pic in the top right corner - when I roll it over a PNG file, it halts for a second then crashes.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently switched my desktop environment from KDE-4.3.4 to GNOME-2.28-2 and I did that by installing most of the gnome-packages and uninstalling pretty much all of the kde-ones. After reboot everything worked fine except the file browser that doesn't seem to care about my feelings. It launches and when I try to kill the process the status changes from sleeping to uninterruptible and then back to sleeping. The only way is to reboot but that isn't a solution.Error while sending message: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

Thought it might be fusermount, but no.Gnome-mount is not installed. Perhaps it is via AL or udev, but what commands control it? I've found posts that talk about using gnome-mount, but these are outdated as this package isn't even installed by default anymore.I would like to unmount certain volumes via the command line, but without having root privileges as gnome is doing by clicking in nautilus. I would like to do the equivalent from the command line.
Are there any command lines commands that will allow me to do this (not talking about pmount which is not installed)?Also, is there a way to prevent automounting of just certain devices, but not all? I have a USB with 7 different things on it (a "built-in" CD for some reason for windoz users, the original NTFS, and 5 linux partitions). I really only want one of the linux partitions (an XFS for DVD isos) to automount but not all the others. I would like not to have to disable ALL automounting as in:

About 40% of the time when I try to open Dolphin (clicking the widget on the taskbar) I get launch feedback but it never opens Dolphin. If I then click it again, this time it will open. Where can I look in some log to find what error might be happening?
