I'm fairly new to Linux... I deleted the wine Icon from the main menu, because I mistakenly thought it was something left over from my last Wine installation.I installed the latest Wine, because I ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE MS Office 2007 for one of my college classes.Now that the new Wine is installed the icon is still gone... How can I replace this.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having an issue with my AWN dock where I have enabled it to'group similarapplications', i.e multiple windows of the the same applicationIn 9.10, AWN distinguished between different WINE applications and used their native icons.In 10.04 AWN doesn't distinguish, see the pic belowScreenshot-2.jpgs you can see AWN groups my WINE applications under one icon, the spotify icon and you can see the MS Word logo to the right. This is very irritating since I would like to have separate WINE shortcuts on my taskbar! I'm sure this will affect some other users too.Anyone know how to sort this out?N.B I can't use cairodock as I have issues with freezing and icons not appearing, and i feel docky isn't up to speed with the same functionality as the others for the time being.

Unfortunately I can't work out how to change the icon. I can change the icon in the menu by changing the .desktop file, but how do I change the others, the ones which I believe are controlled by wine?I'm running debian with xfce, and I run Spotify through wine.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a windows app I run under wine that always displays a blank dos window first when I run it directly from a link to application on my desktop.I wrote a bash script to run it and put that in a link to application and that works without the blank dos window. Why doesn't the first way work?
Long version:I have a small old windows application that stores all my passwords. I like it because it's simple and I can access it (dual boot) from Windows or Linux. It just displays a very simple window with a list of accounts and clicking on one of those opens a child window with the details. It has no graphics or anything fancy. On the windows side, installing it
was as simple as unzipping it and creating a desktop shortcut for it - no setup at all.
On the Linux side (kubuntu hardy), I created a link to application on my desktop with Command set to
wineconsole /media/windoze/Program Files/Passkeeper/pass32.exe and work path set to/media/windoze/Program Files/Passkeeper
It works fine, but when I start it up, I always get a blank dos window on the screen first and then the application window appears. I have to manually minimize the dos window to get it out of the way. It does nothing useful by itself. But, if I close it, it closes the application with it.I tried to run it as as wine instead of wineconsole, but that does nothing at all - at least on the screen and dmesg.
Normally wine works well for me but I'm having trouble with one particular Windows app called Communicator, a voip softphone. The app starts up and the window is put on the screen but there is no text. Check boxes are drawn and filled and input boxes are shown, but still no text. All my system fonts are installed for wine to work. Here is the output if I run from the command line:

I'm suspicious about the line above: err:module:import_dll Library QtSvg4.dll but I'm not sure what to do because the file DOES exist in the referenced directory.
I got rid off Empathy off my toolbar and it has taken away the sound icon aswell. How do I get the sound icon back? I am using Ubuntu 10.10.

In the past, when I've installed wine, it automatically gave me a Programs menu from which I could launch all the Windows programs I installed. That menu is now missing.I tried uninstalling Wine, removing the ~/.wine folder, and removing all references to wine and wine programs in ~/.local/share... with no effect.can't get the Programs menu to come back.

View 1 Replies View RelatedEvery time I install Jessie, I also install gufw as a graphical firewall frontend for desktop users, but I've also always had to create my own menu icon because the default one never showed up. I opened up the .desktop file today and took a look to see why it was never displayed in Gnome.
There was a line next to the bottom that basically told it to only appear in Unity. Deleting this line allowed it to appear in the Gnome menu. My question is this. Why is this line even in here?

When I run my Gnome desktop all my KDE applications are missing their usr/share/icons/hicolor/48*48/apps/nameofapplication.png picture. The KDE applications work, and when I go to that destination file the png. picture is present. When I run a KDE environment, my KDE applications (that are missing in Gnome) have their icon 48*48 picture. Any idea why when running the Gnome environment, there is a missing path to the png. file for only the KDE applications?

Here is one of them.I created a user account for my wife - She was set up as an administrator with full access to everything (including wireless, internet, etc etc.)The top tool panel on MY desktop has the Speaker Icon - And to its left is a Wireless Internet Icon, which I use to connect to the internet and manage internet options. On my Wifes desktop - its not there. There is just three horizontal lines one ontop of the other. This was unmissable! This does not seem to exist in 10.04 Lts or am I missing something. I've looked for an option to enable this but found nothing. I know the me menu is suppose to show my user name and icon above the text box but I'm not seeing it. is there some way to fix this? Also the text box is dark, I've seen screenshots where is is white. The text I type would be easier to see if the box was white. Any ideas on how to fix this?

wine KindleForPc-installer.exe it runs to completion two windows appears they have a windows look, as it intiializes. Then it returns to the command line prompt. Shortly after it returns to the command line I get a series of error messages. Perhaps the installer finishes and then tries to start Kindle. I have typed their essence below:

Kindle does not show up in the configuration utility and when I try to run it from the command line it complains that some classes are not registered. My understanding is that yum has a list of the component packages required by wine, and the person who prepared the list thought it had loaded all that was needed for wine, but it did not include the package that has the classes that I need. On the web there are a number of postings that tell how well Kindle works under Linux, and none of them deals with doing anything more than installing wine. I assume that in those cases the install procedure loaded the classes I need. My hope is that someone with more knowledge than I can give me a pointer on how to proceed.

Ive tried rt clicking on the top panel >add to pannel>notification area....yet it is still missing.I know that NetworkManager is installed, yet I cant even access it to connect to a wireless network. View 7 Replies View RelatedI've installed chromium browser package from Index of /repositories/openSUSE:/11.4:/Contrib/standard I notice that the taskbar icon has been missing (for quite some time) - I can confirm it on 3 different openSUSE 11.4 installations - on my laptop, my home HTPC/gaming rig and the worstation at work. The icon in the gnome main menu->internet->chromium looks fine but the icon I get in Compiz Ring Switcher seems to be the same white box icon with the blue bar. I'm sure it started happening since an update of Chromium in Feb/Mar timeframe. Does anyone else face similar problem and may be found a solution to get the icon fixed in the taskbar? I've attached a screenshot showing the problem.
