Software :: What Exactly Does Test Mean In Rpm Name?
Jul 28, 2009
So I have CentOS 5 with Nagios installed from the RPM Forge repositories and I found something from security focus that says I should upgrade to a 3.1.x version of Nagios. The upgrade does not show up if I do a "yum upgrade", so I looked in repositories manually by package and found nagios-3.1.0-1.el5.test.i386.rpm from 27-Jan-2009 00:27 (http://packages.sw.be/nagios/). I'm thinking this doesn't show up in my upgrade path since the package name has "test" in it. Is this a normal part of the package release process for CentOS? It seems like if this package has been around since January it would have been moved over to the regular package name by now, but I'm not really sure the deal is.
I am trying to install mysql 5.1.44..so i downloaded the binary package, i extracted it and then followed the instructions that were in the manual but i keep getting this error when running this command
Installing MySQL system tables... 100315 20:07:27 [Warning] Can't create test file /var/lib/mysql/mosty.lower-test 100315 20:07:27 [Warning] Can't create test file /var/lib/mysql/mosty.lower-test
I have created mobility of 20 nodes and vbr traffic using following attached script I executed the file as ns234 vbr.tcl I got the vbr.tr and vbr.nam but I was unable to load the graph using matlab <trgraph> I thought problem with is vbr.tcl script.
I bought a new 1.5TB SATA drive (WD15EARS), now I intend to thoroughly test it for bad sectors and other issues, before it will become part of a server raid array.
Are there any good testing tools out there to perform read/write compare operations allover the disk space?
What is the best way to test a distro? As a newbie, I am trying out several different distro's. I run them from a live CD and see if they are easy for me to set up my wireless, can be configured to multiple monitors, corectly recognize my hardware. I then connect to the internte and see if it plays videos or needs codecs downloaded, then connect to the reository and download any needed codecs, or pick a random program and see how easy it is to download and install.
Is this a reasonable way to check out a distro, or should I be looking at something else? Keep in mind, I am a newbie who is a user, not a hacker, and know nothing of the commandline yet.
I want to test automatically if the USB ports are in use. I want to test it in a bash script
I found some information about ttyUSB0 in the /dev/
The problem is, there is usb hub between the system and the mouse/keyboard. The other USB port is in use for the Ubuntu live usb. When I open the /dev/ map virtual and pull out the usb keyboard the hidraw1 diappears, same for the keyboard. When both are out and I pull out the usb hub, nothing happens.
I want to test something with my JMX console. I need to use the twiddle.sh script (because of a plugin). But when i execute this:
Code: /opt/jboss-5.1.0.GA/bin/twiddle.sh -s localhost get jboss.system:type=ServerInfo ActiveThreadCount i get this error: Code: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: while resolving class: org.jboss.console.twiddle.Twiddle
I am trying to test an rpm by doing a yum install. It should not install and report a dependency conflict as there is deliberately another package installed it should conflict with but it is installing over the existing package. When I do this via an rpm -i it correctly does not install.
I would like to see the journal of a file-system (ex. ext4) in action. What i mean is that, without knowing what kind of fs is on a partition, i want to test if this fs supports or not journaling.
I want to copy files from an incoming directory, but don't want to copy a file if it hasn't finished being written. I thought of using fuser, but it doesn't seem to be very reliable. I vi'd a file in one window and then ran fuser against the file name and got nothing back. I'm just writing a simple bourne script on RHEL.
I'm running Debian Testing (up-to-date) with no difficulties.I'd like to find a way to test/validate DVD+RW media to ensure that I will get error-free off-the-air recordings in a separate DVD recorder.I've only been able to find Windows-based Nero or Plextor utilities discussed on the DVD enthusiast web sites. If possible, I'd like to evaluate the media on my Debian box.
Currently using XFBurn, which doesn't seem to be the answer. FWIW, the DVD hardware is a Hitachi/LG burner. Using lshw, I get description: DVD-RAM writer, product: DVD+-RW GH30N, vendor: HL-DT-ST,... version: A102, capabilities: removable audio cd-r cd-rw dvd dvd-r dvd-ram, configuration: ansiversion=5 status=ready
Code: Fedora 14 xfce 2.6.35.10-74.fc14.x86_64 HP Mini 210

I was trying to make a skype call to someone. However, I can hear them, but they can't hear me. I did a skype sound test. And discovered it was my mic not working. However, I can't see any configuration to see if my mic is muted or not.
I currently backup my database using MySQL Administrator. I wanted to test out restoring the database, so on my test server I deleted the database and restored the .sql file to a new schema with the same name as the old. one. It appears to complete the process just fine. But I noticed that the number of rows for the restored database is slightly less than what was backed up.
Is this normal or should the numbers be exactly the same? It's only a difference of about 28 rows. I seem to be able to view the data just fine in the query tool.
Sound is not working. Clean install new home. Fully patched and multi-media stuff installed. It works in test in yast but nothing else has sound. There is a loud click when KDE starts. Also there is a delay before I can do anything. Tried changing the backends no luck. Also tried disable of phonon in Yast but have nor tried to remove it yet. Perhaps I should.
If you still have windows on some of your machines and a bit of free drive space, your help testing Wubi for the 10.04 Lucid release would be most welcome. Please use the latest Wubi version available on [URL] There is no need to burn or use a CD, Wubi will automatically download and use the latest daily ISO.If you have any issue, follow this procedure:
Uninstall and try with a clean installation using the latest revision from the above link If that does not help, when you reboot into Ubuntu the first time, you can press ESC for more installation boot options, sometimes those fix the issue. Check [URL] if there is already an open bug, in case feel free to add a comment in there If none of the above helps, feel free to ask on this thread (I am subscribed). If you think you stumbled upon a new bug, an even better place for reporting your issue is [URL] More points if you attach the wubi.log file which is located in your user temp directory.
I would like to know as you see in windows, when you plug in a device it tells you some thing whether it is 2.0 or not. Is there a way to tell if the usb extension cable is 2.0 compatible? How about the usb device itself?
Set up a server with Bind, Dovecote, Apache etc. Registered a domain and made all the necessary things for it to work. The server can send/receive mail on my domain, but when I try to look up the site I have it returns a lookup failure. I know Apache is working as I can browse the site when I used my ip address but I can't when I use the domain name. Anyone got a few tricks I could try to dumb down and find the possible failures I did when setting this up?
I'd like to ask you if there is a way to test if RAM modules are working/stable. I don't mean memtest86+ test, my previous motherboard crashed after inserting another module (problem could not be specified/or/and was in RAM, so I got new ones from seller). So now I'd like to ask you, if there is some way to determine if RAMs are working and stable. I don't know any other way than applying them to them motherboard and testing, but now it really is not what I want to do. Maybe there could be some device which can test them, or something.
Plugged in, the PSU will not show any power, unconnected to the board, the led flashes. How do I test to see if the PSU is fried or if it is the motherboard?
I'm trying to identify when WAN bandwidth is compromisedI don't want to run this continuously, but would like something that I can put in a script for testing purposes. All the speed tests I've foundhile quite adequate otherwise, utilize a GUI interface.Similarly, is there a linux-based client / server pair that I can use to test out LAN /VLAN issues?
