Software :: Resizing NTFS Partition On Server (RAID Controller)

I'm trying to resize an NTFS partition on an IBM MT7977 Server. It has a Adaptec AIC-9580W RAID controller. I was thinking about doing it with a gparted LiveCD/LiveUSB, but then I realised that they won't have drivers for the RAID controller. A quick google for "9580W Linux" doesn't return anything promising.
I was trying to resize a NTFS partition using GParted and trying to enlarge it using some unallocated space (about 400 or 500 MB unallocated space) but something went wrong and now I am unable to access the NTFS partition. The unallocated space is still there.The error details are reported at the bottom of this mail, plus the content of fstab and mtab.Do you have any idea on what caused the error and how to recover the partition?
I am not been able to re size the partition. Can anyone please help. I tried to re size and install ubuntu 10.04 on two machines but it did not work. Details are HP mini ( windows xp pre installed with new ntfs partition). Lenovo thinkpad ( windows vista pre installed).Is new windows partition is non - re sizable?
I am trying to connect a RAID Box to the server via LSI 8880EM2 RAID controller.The raid box is FUjitsu Externus DX60 with raid 1 configured.The server is Fujitsu Primergy SX300 S5 with LSI 8880EM2 RAID card.The external raid box is being recognised by the raid controllers bios.
The server runs CentOS 5.5 64bit. I have installed the megaraid_sas driver from LSI website and MegaCLI utility but CentOS still fails to see the box.MegaCLI utility, when launched from CentOS, recognises the raid box, CentOS does not(no mapping being created in /dev).
I have also tried to create a logical RAID0 HDD on one physical HDD(as seen by MegaCLI) with MegaCLI utility in CentOS.The result was success and the new logical drive could have been used, but when restarting the server, the controllers' bios fails with an error (not surprised(one logical RAID0 on one physical HDD)) and configuration is being erased.
Has anyone tried connecting 8880EM2 controller to a raid box with raid configured on the box, running it all under CentOS and what were the results.
Now however its not letting me resize the Windows partition, mounted or unmounted. It currently occupies the whole disk. I would rather not reinstall the whole thing over again, but I will if I have to. Isnt there an easy way to shrink a Windows partition? I swear Ive done this before and it wasnt this hard. Could it be a problem with the Mint installer that now asks me if I want to unmount my disks before it goes into install mode? On this PC I would like to have

I have IBM x3550 M3 machine with ServeRAID-M1015 on board. I set up RAID1 on machine and have question : 1. Is there some kind of software to manage hardware RAID from within operating system level? What I mean by saying "manage hardware RAID from oes level" is I would like to see status of disks in array, be able to initiate rebuild process and etc. This post doesn't relate software RAID only hardware RAID.
I want to create a file-server with Ubuntu and have two additional hard drives in a RAID 1 setup. Current Hardware: I purchased a RAID controller from [URL]... (Rosewill RC-201). I took an old machine with a 750GB hard drive (installed Ubuntu on this drive). I installed the Rosewill RAID card via PCI port. Connected two 1TB hard drives to the Rosewill raid card. Went into the RAID bios and configured it to RAID 1.
My Problem: When I boot into Ubuntu and go to the hard drive utility (I think that's what its called). I see the RAID controller present with two hard drives configured separately. I format and tried varies partition combination and at the end of the day I see two separate hard drives. Just for giggles, I also tried RAID 0 to see if they would combine the drives.
I am having problems resizing my partition. Basically I have a vmware server running 4 OS's and I have already changed the HDD size to 40GB in the profile configuration of the virtual machine. Now I want to edit the main partition to extend from 15GB to 40GB. I have searched everywhere but unfortunately none of it seems to work for me. This is what I have at the moment. I was attempting to format a flash drive, and well, used the wrong sdX device. I've run DiskInternals Partition Recovery tool, and all my files are still there (you have to pay $139 to have it restore the files). Is there any way using tools in linux to restore the ntfs partition/files? It was a single disk with the partition taking the entire drive. I've tried mounting it with the -t option, but it says invalid ntfs signature. Man, two lessons the hard way, make sure you backup (duh) and be careful what you type as root.
I have a dual-boot setup with winXP and openSUSE 11.2. I have both XP and SUSE partitions on a 160g HDD and then a Hardware RAID 1 array of 2 320g HDDs. The RAID arrray contains all my media/data files on an NTFS partition. For some reason SUSE shows both individual 320g disks mounted in the file system, but not the RAID array. If I attempt to browse either of the disks, I get an error and can't view them. How do I mount the RAID NTFS partition?

I was installing Ubuntu 9.10 side-by-side on a computer that had Windows XP Pro already on it. I told gparted to start shrinking the NTFS paritition, and about 5 minutes before the read-only test was finished, I shut the lid. Whoops... Forgot to change the power options.
I tell GParted to do a check disk, and gives me the following:

Windows of course won't boot, and I won't have access to a Windows XP install disk until Monday night, and there is no floppy drive on the laptop.
I have a dedicated server that has CentOS 5.5 installed.. I can access that server via SSH as root. Now the issue is.. httpdocs folder is situated in /var where all website data is stored. I have more than 50GB of website that needs to be transfered to this partition but this partition is of 4.0GB..
I want to mount ntfs partition in rhel5 I searched a lot in google and finally understood that these three RPMS are must to mount ntfs partition in rhel5. My kernel version vmlinuz-2.6.18-53.el5. As per instructions in the net I downloaded these rpmms fuse-2.6.5-1.el5.rf.i386.rpm fuse-ntfs-3g-1.1030-1.el5.rf.i386.rpm fuse-kmdl-2.6.18-53.el5-2.7.1-6_7.el5.i686.rpm
First and second rpms are installed successfully but third is showing errors saying rpm -ivh fuse-kmdl-2.6.18-53.el5-2.7.1-6_7.el5.i686.rpm Failed dependency /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-53.el5 is needed by fuse-kmdl-2.6.18-53.el5-2.7.1-6_7.el5.i686.rpm
But I copied vmlinuz-2.6.18-53.el5 in /boot even though it is saying dependencies missing #rpm -qa | grep kernel kernel-headers-2.6.18-53.el5 kernel-xen-2.6.18-53.el5. #modprobe fuse FATAL: module fuse not found #uname -a Linux server2.vth.com 2.6.18-53.el5xen.
My query is that why am unable to install the kernel module. Currently running kernel-xen-2.6.18-53.el5. I tried in another system above three rpms were installed successfully without any errors. What was the reason for my system.
I'm having a problem with the installation of Ubuntu Server 10.04 64bit on my IBM xSeries 346 Type 8840. During the installation the system won't recognize any disk, so it's asking which driver it should use for the RAID controller. There's a list of options, but nothing seems to work. I've been searching the IBM website for an appropriate driver, but there is no Ubuntu version (there is Red Hat, SUSE, etc). I was thinking about downloading the correct driver onto a floppy disk to finalize the installation, but apparently no 'general' Linux driver to solve the problem here.
I have been using lspci, dmidecode, and mpt-status to get hardware information on my Dell 1950 running Ubuntu 8.10. I'm pretty sure my server is using an embedded SCSI RAID controller from info I got from Dell's site:
PCI-Express is an actual...well, PCI card, right? But dmidecode shows that I have two x8 PCI Express slots that are both available. Sooo...I'm missing something. How am I running a PCI Express SCSI controller without using a PCI Express slot? In the event of not having the kind of info that I did (i.e. the service tag) how would I be able to tell at a glance whether a component like my RAID controller was embedded or not?
I have a VT6421 based raid controller. lspci shows this: 00:0a.0 RAID bus controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6421 IDE RAID Controller (rev 50) The drivers that come with it appear to have been compiled against an old kernel (I'm guessing). When I try to load them I get invalid module format. dmesg shows this: viamraid: version magic '2.6.11-1.1369_FC4 686 REGPARM 4KSTACKS gcc-4.0' should be '18.104.22.168-smp SMP mod_unload Does anyone know of a way to get this to work? I found the source for this, but it appears to only support Fedora, Mandrak, and RedHat. I can't get it to compile or make a driver disk.
I'm working on a new server and it has an Nvidia SATA array controller with 2 250Gb SATA drives configured in a hardware array. When the first screen comes up I'm entering the option Linux DD for it to prompt me for the drivers but nothing ever happens. The screen says that it's loading a SATA driver for about 15 minutes and then the screen clears and has a plus sign cursor on a black screen. What am I doing wrong? The only driver that came with the HP server are for Redhat 4 and 5 and SUSE, will any of those actually work?
EFI GUID Partition support works on both 32bit and 64bit platforms. You must include GPT support in kernel in order to use GPT. If you don't include GPT support in Linux kernel, after rebooting the server, the file system will no longer be mountable or the GPT table will get corrupted. By default Redhat Enterprise Linux / CentOS comes with GPT kernel support. However, *******if you are using Debian or Ubuntu Linux,******** you need to recompile the kernel. Set CONFIG_EFI_PARTITION to y to compile this feature.
Is this true? Ubuntu has no GPT support native to the server install? Never compiled a kernel. Is that of itself going to be a mind bender? How much doo doo am I going to get into if I haven't done it a few times? Trust me when I tell you its no thrill formatting and reformatting a 8tb raid drive or the individual disks if it screws up. Been on that ride way too long already. Need things to go smoothly. This is not a play toy server, but will be used in a business.

my problem, I Am trying to install f12 and the only drive that it sees is the 750GB Sata,it is not seeing the other 2 ide drives The raid controller is an ite 8212 in ide mode The Bios Sees the drives just F12 doesnt
I shall start off by saying that I have just jumped from Windows 7 to Ubuntu and am not regretting the decision one bit. I am however stuck with a problem. I am running the install on an old Dell 8400. My PC has an Intel RAID Controller built into the MB. I have 1 HDD (without RAID) (which is houses my OS install) and then I have 2 1TB drives (These are just NTFS formatted drives with binary files on them nothing more.) in a RAID 1 (Mirroring) Array. The Intel RAID Controller on Boot recognizes the Array as it always has (irrespective of which OS is installed) however, unlike Windows 7 (where I was able to install the Intel RAID controller driver) .Does anyone know of a resolution (which doesn't involve formatting and / or use of some other software RAID solution) - to get this working which my searches have not taken me too?
Why could there not be a 3-way or even 4-way RAID level 1 (mirror)? It seems every hardware (and at least the software I tested a few years ago) RAID controller only supports a 2-way mirror.I recently tried to configure a 3ware 9650SE RAID controller. I selected all 3 drives. Then RAID 1 was not presented as an option. Only RAID 0 (striping, no redundancy) and RAID 5 (one level of redundancy, low performance). Is there some engineer who thinks "triple redundancy is a waste, so I'm not going to let them do that"? Or is it a manager?
Mirror RAID should be simple, even when more than 2 drives are used. The data is simply written in parallel to all the drives in the mirror set, and read from one of the drives (with load balancing over parallel and/or read-ahead operations to improve performance, though some of this is in question, too).
I am doing major deployment of opensuse 313 pcs from windows to opensuse. I am having a problem that I have to keep 2 ntfs partitions intact will deleting the partition that has windows. Now everything goes well, opensuse installs but the problem is that I cannot give user full rights to ntfs folders. I have used graphical file permission methods n terminal chown n chmod methos but still permissions revert back to root.
I am trying to restore an NTFS partition from a backup and I need the new drive to have the old (dead) drive's UUID (which I recorded).I really really really cannot use the option of changing fstab to mount using a new UUID, for this case I need the old UUID that existed on the other drive.Is there some ntfs equivalent of tune2fs that'll let me change the UUID on an ntfs partition?
