View 1 Replies View RelatedI wasn't paying proper attention when adding a repo to yast and need to find the file were the info is saved to delete this. The problem is that whenever i use yast it comes up with an error code saying that it can't find the data for the 'problem' repo. Have tried zypper rm but that comes up with a similar error advising that the data is in a format that was not expected. My thinking is to track the file were the yast repo source details are saved, delete this and then just add the repos that i use back.

We have a few packages which need to be deployed during kickstart (Cinelerra and Eclipse plugins), and I would like to put them into my mirror repo so they are grabbed during kickstart, rather than manually adding them after the system is up.
I have a Qr barcode to decrypt and to do this I installed from the official ubuntu repo the software needed.
The problem is this: I can't see the software in any menu.
From shell I know how to create a Qr barcode, but I'm unable to decrypt one.
Someone have any idea about how to do it from CLI or in any other way?
I have installed a package on Centos 5.5, and need to find out the repository it came from, so I can enable the source rpms for that particular repository, and download the source, and rebuild the package. Is there some way using yum or rpm to find out which repo the installed package came from? I know Smart PM shows this info, but it has been hanging on Centos 5.5, for some strange reason, so that's not really an option for now.

I actually want to get rid of the 10 seconds and make it infinite seconds during startup, mainly because I usually turn on my laptop and turn away to do something else. so how do I get rid of the time? I haven't been able to find any related results in Google or here in the forums.

But now when I try to install all that it offers to do is UNinstall. I thought I could UNinstall and then reinstall, but no...It fails to UNinstall too...just as it failed to install. So I'm wondering how to remove this (the command line way) from the system. I tried "yum remove wine" and when I put wine back, like a phantom, the same problem was there. I tried removing the entire .wine directory in my home folder...same problem.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a seagate SATA hard drive that was running a mythtv distro. It had 3 partitions, EXT3, swap, and XFS. I started having I/O errors on boot and saw error messages on both the EXT3 and the XFS partitions. I also heard some clunking sounds on the drive when it was reading, so I thought hell, the drive is dead.
I have since replaced the drive and everything is back up and running on the replacement drive. I thought hell, the seagate drive is toast, but I just want to verify it with some sort of tool. I have the hard drive in a Vantec NexStar external hard drive case (SATA->USB) and found there was a tool called badblocks. Ran badblocks on it, which ran for 24ish hours and found no bad blocks. I also didn't notice any clunking sounds while it was running.

Is badblocks a proper test to run on external hard drives or was I just wasting my time? Is there any way that I can really test it without removing it and connecting it with SATA to the motherboard?

Some have said that should look in the repository only to find out that the repository would correctly be named the software center and that it has no files named flash or adobe. I installed flash from adobe directly but it did not work. I am using 32bit Ubuntu.

I'd like to be able to startup without external hard drive and make the ubuntu on my internal drve the standard.
I have just manage to set up a number of computers using NComputing thin clients. I have set up 5 user accounts.People will be using these account randomly. So what I want is to set up everything as it should be and that to be the default setting. If users download files or make changes to the files these should be for the session. On startup/shutdown all the files and changes should be deleted this way the next user can find the machine clean. And also there is limited maintenance to be done.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi'm attempting to know and understand fedora more and i will spend probably the next month pouring through all the forums and documents to answer more of my own questions. but there's quite a bit here, so i'd thought i'd ask some noob questions to get me started a little.
ive installed fedora 14 64bit and chosen only kde as the desktop. i selected an extra 2 repos besides the default, fedora 14 -x86_64 and fedora 14-x86_64 -updates. i believe this kernel is installed: 2.6.35.11-83
1. i can only see the 2 extra repo's as being "checked" in kpackagekit, shouldn't i see the default repo also ?
2. i dont have an applet in the system tray indicating the system is up to date, does fedora have this by default ? also after a clean install i ran yum check-update and yum update but the message sayes: "no packages marked for update". i'm not sure if the system is auto-updated during install or not, but with other distros iv tried there is always atleast a few updates needing to be done after install.
3. is kpackagekit the fedora gui package manager ? i dont see any others.
4. i want to upgrade to nvidia drivers, but i think i am missing a non-free repo or something. when i enter: yum install kmod-nvidia xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.x86_64 i get messages stating "no package" i get the same message with yum install nvidia-settings.i also tried this: LANG=C yum --enablerepo=rpmfusion-nonfree info akmod-nvidia but it sayes repo not found.
Depending on whether I launched it with gnome do or the main menu I got a different 'version' of spotify, I could tell this because it had different searches remembered. I tried removing wine and spotify and gnome do via synaptic and completely remove and then the option to remove configuration files left over. I did a search and there were loads of wine files left so I just deleted. When I reinstalled wine, spotify and gnome do the same problem occurred.
Also Firefox started crashing ubuntu, just freezing it, so I tried to uninstall completely, but when I restarted it kept the same add ons and still crashed. So I uninstalled again and tried to delete all firefox folders but I can't work out how to do it as root.
Basically this is my problem:
1.) I want to remove Ubuntu and Grub and have only Windows XP on my PC again. (Remember the good old days?)
2.) I want to put the Ubuntu partitions back into Windows partition. I need the space.
3.) I can't use an XP disc because I don't have one. (No. Neither does anyone else I know.)
4.) FIXMBR isn't working... am I doing something wrong and what other options do I have?
5.) Does anyone know how do this without removing all my files on the XP? I can't afford to backup everything on my XP. I CAN'T!
Will KDE4.4 eventually move into the 11.2 updates or do I have to add the KDE Factory repo to get this update?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm migrating data (music and videos mainly) from a NAS server that was being used as my iTuens Media Folder onto a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 and I'd like to get rid of all the ._DS files as well as other files that os x 10.4 has been creating such as duplicates of mp3 files but prefixed with "._".
The reason I'm keen to remove all of these files is because I stumbled across a corrupted ._DS_Store file that caused me all sorts of head aches and I don't want them causing any problems in linux.
I've used the search function in Nautilus to search for ._ but it returns no results, even when I'm searching in a directory that I know for certain has those files in it. I have 'View hidden files' selected.
Is it possible to remove the "ubuntuone-synchronized" emblem from files and folders that are being synchronized with Ubuntu One? Seeing the check mark on all my files and folders is just really annoying and distracts from the thumbnail preview that nautilus provides.I've tried going into folder properties -> emblems and de-selecting the emblem but it won't let me.
