I didn't want bother you but I'm in trouble... deep in trouble. I "must" create a function, in my php application, to allow continuous print. I mean that it should send to printer "directly" some letters (changing names and addresses of course). I used javascript function "window.print()" but it wait for a button pressed from the user...
I've tried lpr [FILE] didn't work I've tried cat [FILE] > /dev/lp0 couldn't figure out how to get to the root prompt and I googled until my googler was sore. All I got was lengthy and confusing user manuals for cat. besides going through the trouble of loading GIMP everytime I want to print something?
Prerequisites : The GIMP. Make sure you have the "Gutenprint Printer Drivers Package" and "GIMP plugin for gutenprint" installed (add/remove software, search for gutenprint). A printer that uses a tray loading mechanism for printing disc media.
Procedure : Open/create the image with the GIMP. I find that an image size of 1394 x 1394 is ideal for normal size discs. To create a working area in the image, first create a white circle. To do this, use the circle selection tool and position the cursor at position 0,0 (top left). Then, while holding the shift key down, hold left click and drag the cursor to the bottom right position, which should be 1394,1394. Fill the selection with white colour. Depending on the hub size of your disc you need to also cut out an area in the centre of the white circle approximately 22 mm in diameter. Position the circle selection cursor 11mm above the centre of the image, and 11mm to the left of the centre of the image. Then hold Shift down, hold left click and drag the cursor until the selected area is 22mm x 22mm. Then cut the selection. Now create a new layer above the white circle and create your image, keeping inside the white circle and outside the centre "hole".
If you are using non full face discs, make the centre "hole" bigger accordingly. Create 2 new background layers, one black and one white. The black is so you can preview the image with the correct shape, and the white one is for use when exporting the final finished image for printing. Remember to make the white layer above the black layer, or make the black layer invisible when exporting the image. I have attached a template for your immediate use. Once your image is finished, you should have a white square image, with your graphics arranged within a circle. White is not printed, so you don't need transparency around the edges. Don't put graphics too close to the edges of the circle or you will get ink on the plastic which never dries. (at least not until you have smeared it on your fabulous artwork ! ) Save the file as the default GIMP xcf format to preserve the layers then export it to png.
To print the image onto the disc. With the image open in the GIMP, In File > Page Setup set the paper size to CD - 5 inch and apply. Then go to File > Print with Gutenprint. Use the option to set up printer and find your make and model. Once you have the correct printer selected, lots of extra options become available.
My Printer settings are: Print Quality - Best Media Type - Photo paper Media Source - Print to CD CD hub size - Normal Ink Set - Epson Standard inks Resolution - 720 dpi Ink Type - 6 color photo Page Size - CD - 5 inch (All the other settings are left as default)
On the Output tab there are more options for adjusting the print quality. Just click "Adjust Output". If you have adjusted the output, close that window then click "Print and Save Settings", otherwise just click "Print and Save Settings". It should fire up straight away. These settings are based on my Epson R200, so you may have to tweak them for your printer model.
I initially had a problem accessing the CUPS interface (see my other post) and got that resolved by adding the user "cupsys". Now, everything "looks" ok, and when I print a test page, it shows it as completed (in CUPS). However, the page never prints. The printer is a Canon MP600 (using the canonmp600en.ppd file to configure it). Here's the output of my conf file.
Code: # Show troubleshooting information in error_log. LogLevel debug
Interesting problem: For the first time with Xubuntu 10.10 64bit, I am finding certain applications print corrupt. A varying amount of letters / numbers either get substituted/print a blank space/ print a box etc etc. This corruption seems to happen from a Pdf ( evince ) or Spreadheet ( Gnumeric ) Opening the same Pdf on another machine (ubuntu 10.10 32bit) prints perfectly. Opening the same .xls file on the original computer but using OOo Calc prints perfectly.
I guess I have ruled out any problems with the printer itself or the network JetDirect box. I have re-installed CUPS and evince and upgraded to the latest version of HPLIP but the problem appears unchanged.
I cannot print pdf files. I have tried using okular and xpdf. The documents display in the program, but print preview shows a blank page. The printer then sends out blank pages. I have tried printing on 2 different printers using usb cables. Using terminal to process the commands shows error:
My wife has a canon MP470 printer and running ubuntu 10.10. I am able to print black and white, but unable to print photos. I got it to work using another driver, but not the 'correct' one for this printer. I have searched a bit and don't see anything about ubuntu 10.10, just older versions. Or should I just network her to my printer....?
I'm running Kubuntu 10.10 with a Laserjet 5M printer. When I attempt to print a job from Firefox or from Okular, the job never gets onto the print queue. However, I can print test pages on the printer and also print from OpenOffice, so this seems to be app-dependent. I know the jobs aren't being queued because the job number doesn't increase (as shown by the jobs for the test pages). Both Firefox and Ocular give every indication that the print job has been processed correctly.
Not sure when CUPS started acting up. I have the latest 13.1 current software installed. The first page to print is always OK, but all succeeding pages are overwritten. The second page shows the first page on top of it, and the third shows the preceding pages on top of it - and so on. Has anyone else seen this problem?I guess the printer buffer is not getting flushed correctly. If my configurations were trashed in some way, I don't know where to look for a fix.
How can I combine multiple single page prints into a single print job? For example, using Firefox on Linux one can print a web page such that each sheet of paper has four pages printed upon it. I would like to combine several separate web pages so that for example, web-page-a, web-page-b and web-page-c (each less than one print page long) are printed on a single sheet of paper.
I would like to do this without having to use some form of image editor to combine and manage manually created temporary files.
Just installed drivers for Lexmark pro200 - S500 series. However although it is recognised by the system and has a tick by its name, And tells me it is connected via usb file goes to print que but will not print. Also tells me it is Printing - localhost! is this correct?.
Our one remaining problem seems to be printing. She has an HP OfficeJet 6500 USB printer. We have the computer conntected. Strangely, when I boot from the CD the printer shows up as installed even though I did nothing to install it. After having submitted a print job it shows the printer status as "idle" and the print queue is empty. I tried deleting that printer and re-installing. The installation went as one would expect. However the results are the same. I'm beginning to think that somehow the problem is related to the fact that we are operating from the live CD. getting this thing to print from the live CD.
I have a debian system installed on my pc . I have just saved a text file on my desktop . Please let me know how can i print the file through comand prompt ? I need to learn the printing the file thru comamnd line .
I am running 9.10. I have a HP Photosmart 7350 printer. I have it installed and printing. But the issue I am dealing with is that it will print a full page and then print a blank page..then a full page..then a blank page. Actually they aren't completely blank..it shows half of "2 of 6" or whatever page it is on. Like it cuts that in half and prints the 2nd half of "2 of 6" onto a separate new page.
Here we go, error 4,384,239,283 in Ubuntu I was trying to load a PDF and print it and only said "print to file" So I go to System >Administration>Printing, and it says "Starting Printing." at the bottom, and then goes away... Sigh, anyone knows whats going on?
This is probably more of a VMware problem than an Ubuntu problem, but I am hoping that perhaps someone else running Ubuntu has experienced this and/or has insight.I have a dual-boot system running Win 7 and Ubuntu 11.04 (Both 64-bit).installed VMware Player in Windows 7 and created a virtual machine which should use the partition that Ubuntu is installed on. When I try to run the VM, the "bios" screen goes by and then I get an error message stating that "a virtual cpu has entered the shutdown state." I have tried changing the boot order to boot from cd-rom first and with the ubuntu cd in the drive, the vm will boot from cd and run. Note that I do run VMware Player as an administrator so that it should be allowed to access the hardware directly.
I have tried googling for this and searching VMware communities but pretty much all I find is relative to attempts to install Mac OS X Snow Leopard.Any help would be appreciated.(Note that I have a coworker who has done this successfully and we have compared notes and nothing is popping out as different from a basic configuration standpoint. We do however have different hardware as we are talking Dell Latitude Laptop (him) vs. Lenovo X201 Tablet (Me), both pretty new)
I have windows XP with my system, I downloaded Fedora 13 X86.iso image from bit torrent.also GPG keys in this image are 0 byte size. I burned it drectly to DVD. but sytem is not booting directly from DVD even though i changed bootup setup priority to DVD.
I am using Fedora 13. If I boot directly to runlevel 5, the Fedora progress bar goes all the way across and then just stays at 100% and X never loads. I have to hard-restart the machine. However, if I press 'a' to append the kernel arguments and append the '3' to start in runlevel 3, login at the terminal that is displayed, and then type 'startx', everything works perfectly.
I've used Ubuntu for a couple of years now, and it is by far my favorite operating system. Although, I am now reluctantly switching to Windows 7, due to lack of support for the Apple Airport Extreme.
My CD drives are incapable of recognizing the DVD that I burned of Windows 7.
My only other option now seems to be to boot directly from the Windows 7 iso that I have.
i'm running 9.10. For no reaso whatsoever that I can fathom, ubuntu now boots directly to a terminal. I use startx to get to the desktop, but if i do that, after a short while, the screen will go black and then ubuntu will take me to the GUI log-in screen. I noticed that I'f I was using firefox I would have to go into system monitor to kill the process before I could restart the browser. I also noticed while doing this that most processes seem to be running twice.
Is there a way to modify my ubuntu 10.04 bootable usb drive so that it will boot directly to a desktop without first stopping at the screen offering to install to the hard drive?
I previously used SSH to communicate between my two ubuntu PCs, but my new internet connection is far too slow for this method. Is there someway I can directly communicate between my two PCs using the router. Samba? moreover, my ip seems to be dyanamic through my internet, how can i change it to static? or will it not matter for Local area connections?
I did not upgrade my system when the 9.10 version was released but I'd like to do it now. The update manager gives me 9.10 as the only available option...this would mean I have to upgrade my system twice...is there any way to upgrade directly to 10.4 without passing through 9.10?
Shut down as normal last night, no major changed yet after booting this morning my computer went straight into memtest86+. After finishing, and i rebooted, it did it again. So, i held shift to get into the grub.
Ok i start to find it boring to ALT+CTRL+F1 each time i want that when i boot it directly go to tty 1. But i also want it to load desktop environment, but not to show it, only load it, so if i ALT+CTRL+F7, it goes to desktop environment. If its not loaded, it will not go to desktop environment or it will take like 15 sec to load it, this is why i want to load it while i am in the terminal. Also, how can i switch resolution in terminal?
