View 1 Replies View RelatedI am directly creating "qf" & "df" files into the sendmail queue folder and then processing this queue by command line. This is the only way to export data and email from this old application I am stuck with. This works quite well in my test enviornment but I am really new to linux/sendmail and just looking for any feedback on this process. Is this direct creation of queue files safe and any pitfalls that I should be aware of?
View 2 Replies View Relatedmost canon selphy printers does not work under linux, but i think its possible to send files to a selphy printer via bluetooth. and after recieving the file, it instantly prints the image. my question is, is there a way to send files from a pc to selphy via usb instead of bluetooth. i believe you can use obexftp to send files from pc->selphy and it will instantly print, the problem with this approach is that it takes a lot of time to send the file. if there is a way to use a cable to transfer the files then we could print directly. or is there a cable that somewhat simulates how bluetooth transfers.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy nephew dropped in today hoping I could print off some large Excel files. When I opened them in Office Spreadsheet I could see that each cell had a series of dots in it, similar to full stops (periods). These dots even occurred in cells that already contained text or numbers. Evenly spaced horizontally and vertically as if marking the corners of squares and regardless of the row height or column width. This wouldn't look good on a print out and being as he wanted them for a new job we booted up a Windows machine and took the printout from there. It turned out the page was intended to print to an A3 sheet whilst my available printers are all A4.
Later I reloaded these files into OpenOffice (3.2.0) because I was niggled about OpenOffice perhaps not achieving a decent performance against Excel, and printed off a couple of pages. The printout showed no sign of the dots, which is fine, but what about these dots that show up on the Spreadsheet page.
A bit more on this is that they show up in Preview in Web browser but not in Page preview. Any corrections on this admittedly trivial problem or do we just live with it?
I've been considering erasing Windows off my hard disk to gain some space, but until then, I want to know that I can do everything I'll want to do.
I've followed many tutorials and threads on the internet, but they never work for me. I added several files to a floppy in Windows, and the floppy works fine in all the Windows computers I've tried. However, when I boot into Ubuntu 10.04, I click on the Floppy Drive in nautilus, but it says "Unable to mount location. No media in drive." From the terminal, it seems that I can mount the floppy (no error message, and the floppy drive clicks), but when I navigate to a folder in /mnt or /media, the folder is empty.
Is there any command apart from ls command in Rhel that could display names of files alone in particular folder ?

I'm using gnome. I created some text files. After I change something in myfile.txt there's myfile.txt~ automatically created as a backup. Ok... now, on KDE I see these ~ files and I can delete them if I want but they're hidden in gnome... Gnome seems to treat them as special hidden files (just like .mydir directories) How do I make ~ files visible in gnome so I could edit or delete them?

View 8 Replies View Relatedthe other day my Dell laptop completely crashed, rebooted, got a DST error, tried to run a dskchk off the Windows Boot CD, failed due to "unrecoverable files". Then booted off Ubuntu to salvage my stuff, which seems to work fine, and I can even see my HD - "120 Gb Drive" or whatever it says. When I open it, I see 2 folders: windows, Epson, and 2 random files.
Here's the thing. It says 108/120 gigs are taken, which is just how I left my HD with all my stuff on it that I am trying to recover. Yet my personal and important documents (pictures, videos, documents and even music) are NOWHERE to be found and searches bring up nothing. yet it says the disk space is taken...I am at a total loss.
I messed up my xorg file and now my pc wont start, when i boot ubuntu the display tells me that there is no input.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just finished an install of Cent 5.5. I loaded up a trunk for a software application I want to compile on cent, but I cannot read the .cpp files. The issue seems to be with the file extension. If I change the extension to .txt, they open just fine. My .FOR, .FPP, and .DAT files display fine, but the .cpp and .h give me an error, "Couldn't display...". What is the problem here that won't let me open these files in gedit?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI was messing around with fed 12 yesterday (only on a test installation) and i've hit a snag. I installed openbox and tint2, nitrogen, obconf etc so i could have a #!-style session at startup. It all worked fine until i installed pcmanfm and removed nautilus. The problem is that i can't display files in my home directory, either using pcmanfm, a reinstalled nautilus, or in terminals. Every time i try to point a file brower there it just seems to get stuck searching forever, until i kill it. Weirdly in terminator i can do an 'ls' to see visible files, but 'ls -la' causes the problem again.
ps i thought permissions might have something to do with it, so i did a 'chmod -R 777' as root. it changed permissions for quite a lot of the files but then froze again, and now the problem persists.

Im trying to compare two files and I only want to display the user names that are in the first file and not the second.
So I have one file named final.txt (which contains every user name and only the user names in a list no other information)
Then I have another file Over1.txt (which only contains certain users that have different permissions This file is also setup differently with the user name and some information about the user after the user name.
I need a way to compare final.txt to over1.txt so that I will only display the names that are in final.txt but not Over1.txt
Ive tried using diff and comm but just cant seem to get it two work correctly. Im not sure if im missing a option or what.
Hi I am new to ubuntu and am having major problems setting my displays up. my setup is a hd TV to the Left of my pc monitor, i have managed to configure catalyst to let me have a main display with the second display being an extension of the first, the problem is i cannot seem to swap my primary display, at the minute my HDTV has all the taskbars and everything on it while my pc monitor is just a blank background, i would like it so i could start a film playing for my children, then drag it across to the HDTV while i can still use my pc in the background.
