Slackware :: VirtualBox Kernel Download - File Misnamed

Apr 16, 2010

For some reason, when I click on the Slackbuild link for virtualbox-kernel (3.1.6) for virtualbox-kernel-3.1.6.tar.xz , it downloads as virtualbox-kernel-3.1.6.tar.tar. The file is misnamed. If it is renamed virtualbox-kernel-3.1.6.tar.xz , the SlackBuild works just fine.

General :: Using Much Higher Kernel Version Than Installed Headers

Jul 18, 2010

Many here know I distribute alot of live stuff and thus many say I should try to putout as high a kernel version as possible for wireless, netbooks, etc.my questions are about using a much higher kernel version than the installed headers for instance; I use kernel 2.6.34-ZEN in my arch/slackware builds but the slackware version contains headers 2.6.33.4 from slackware and so is that a problem or no?I built the kernel from source using headers 2.6.33.4 in slackware and headers 2.6.34 in arch...now, I may be upgrading those kernels to meerkats 2.6.35-r5 and need to know if having headers 2.6.33.4 is an issue?also, after compiling kernel does it install a new set of headers when you do make modules_install?

General :: Only Have Kernel Name For Download?

Apr 21, 2011

My instructor at school had downloaded fedora on my external hard drive. His download was a 32 bit, so I could still load on my 64 bit at home.would allow me to open guest on both computers. However, circumstances with the login occurred, and I have to re install.I am trying to find the exact same thing that he had (he is not available for me to use the cd). All I have is the kernel, as this was all that would show. I want to make sure I download the correct version, so I can continue to use the guest on the 32 and 64 bit machines. The kernel is: 2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686.PAE

Fedora :: Why Does VirtualBox Download Kernel

Jan 22, 2010

I wanted to try VirtualBox so I did:
Code:
yum install vboxgtk

In the list of dependencies I found that it needs to download kernel. I was just curious to know that why can't it manage with the PAE kernel. It requires the kernel 2.6.31.12-174.2.3.fc12 whereas I've got its PAE version working right now. Can someone please explain why is it so?

OpenSUSE Install :: Get A Download Popup Which Specifies That The File Is 49.0MB File?

Aug 2, 2010

Asked this on Jul 21, and didn't get any satisfactory answers. Thought i'd ask again before i switch to Ubuntu or go back to Fedora: Has anyone gone to software.opensuse.org: Download openSUSE 11.3 and actually chosen "Installation Medium" as "4.7G DVD", "Direct Link", "32 bit PC", hit the "Download DVD" button and gotten the file "openSUSE-11.3-DVD-i586.iso" which is not 49.0MB?

I mean, the steps above are not rocket science, and not much chance of making mistakes, so i'm not sure how i can get a download popup which specifies that the file is 49.0MB file, if it's not actually that size?

Fedora :: Download Correctly Kernel Source To Enable Driver Make Operation To Proceed?

Basically (in easy to understand steps): how do I download correctly the Kernel source to enable the driver make operation to proceed?

OpenSUSE :: Which 64 Bit File To Download

Nov 3, 2010

At Index of /distribution/11.3/iso the size of the file I need for USB is about 681 MB. Before I download, what comes with the 4.68 gig download that is not included in the other that is so massive in size? Other than the iso and the md5, anything else needed to install openSUSE from USB (plan on using Unetbootin)?

Fedora Installation :: Not Sure What ISO File To Download

Jan 11, 2009

I'm not if I should download the i386 or the x86 iso. I'm not very familiar with hardware. The processor in the computer I want to install fedora on has an AMD64 athlon processor. My confusion comes from the fact that when I bought this computer it has what I assume is a 32-bit vista installation, and the recovery disc doesn't have the option to choose 64-bit or 32-bit installs like the one for my 64-bit vista machine does. The link for the computer I'm going to try fedora out on is here: [URL]. (I know it's not that great, but it's good for tinkering around with.)
