Ubuntu :: Installing Packages In Specific Folder

Jun 18, 2010

Basically, I want to install Opera 10.60 Beta, but I currently have 10.10 Final installed, and I don't want to upgrade/overwrite my current install. Is there any way to specify which directory the .deb package install itself into?

What is the exact syntax for this installation path?

Programming :: Search A Bunch Of Files In A Specific Folder For A Specific Number?

Jul 24, 2010

I need to search a bunch of files in a specific folder for a specific number and add all the numbers together to a total sum. I use Rsync everyday, everytime I run rsync i get a logfile (rsync output) witch contains the textstring "Total bytes sent: xxxxxx".

The "xxxxx" can vary in lenght. I need to extract the "xxxxxx" from each file and add the numbers together to a total size over a week or a month. Is this possible? And I wish to only use bash. One way of doing stuff at a time my friends .

Debian :: Installing I386 Packages Prompts Removal Of Amd64 Packages

Apr 8, 2015

I am working on a project which targets both 32 and 64 bit architectures at the moment. My system is amd64. I added i386 architecture using this guide. However, my problem is

Code: Select allapt-get install package-name:i386

prompts the removal of currently installed packages (amd64 arch.) which is the problem.

Code: Select allReading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following extra packages will be installed:
  libportaudio0:i386

[Code] ...

Some of the packages I am talking about are

-libegl1-mesa-dev:i386
-libportaudio-dev:i386

Now, as of now, I want to carry out the compilation using 32 bit libraries, however, I really don't want to install 64bit version of all prerequisites each time I switch the compilation from 32 bit to 64. Is there any way to have both architectures at the same time?

Fedora :: Getting The Specific Packages And Applications?

Dec 24, 2009

If I am correct there is an official list(probably by Fedora itself) of packages/software included in each Fedora version, but I can't find it. I also have a couple of queries below.

1. There are always new applications, packages, games etc. being released for Fedora by open source developers and companies. Is there a good website where I can get a list of all these new packages etc, if possible an official one? I visit some sites such as Linux.com, but based on your own experience, I think you can guide me better.

2. In order to know which packages are installed on the Fedora machine one can type the following command, is that right?

Code:

rpm -qa

And this one gives the exact number of installed packages.

Code:

rpm -qa | wc -l

General :: Start Terminal In Specific Folder In Ubuntu 10.10?

Apr 16, 2011

I keep all of my web design work under /var/www/(application_name). Nine times out ten, when I open a terminal, I'm heading to the www folder - cd /var/www. I would love to make that my "home" folder for the terminal, so it would just open there - I know if I ctrl+shift+t to open a new tab it defaults to the same dir, but it would be nice to have the first opened terminal default to there. Is this possible, or is there a better way to go about this?

how difficult it would be to set up a specific folder on my box that I can treat as my own personal dropbox. That way I can access the folder and whatever is inside of it by hitting my external IP, or domain, etc. It'd also be nice to upload to that specific folder on my box too. This is speaking from externally to the LAN.

General :: Install A Software That Requires A Specific Versions Of Several Packages?

Apr 12, 2011

I am trying to install a piece of software that requires a specific versions of several packages. I am using Scientific Linux 5.5 and yum for managing the apps. The problem is that I need, for example ruby >= 1.8.7, but the package for ruby that is the official repositories for SL 5.5 is 1.8.5 and therefore yum says it's up to date.

There are other repositories for SL 6.0 that have ruby-1.8.7. Initially I ignored the fact that they are not for 5.5 and tried to install it manually with rpm. But there was an increasing number of data dependencies for the packages so I gave up. What can I do to avoid this? I suppose installing packages for newer OS version should be ok and they will be compatible with other older libs. But do you really install packages in this manner?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Make Rhythmbox Exclude A Specific Folder?

Oct 19, 2010

This question can be found on the Internet and on this forum but either there is no response or the advice is to move the folder to exclude on another path (in case of using a subfolder for ripped/downloaded mp3).

But in my case my music is on a SAN and I access it through CIFS. So every time I delete a file or folder it goes to the Trash, in a folder called #recycle, which Rhythmbox indexes as well. So I have to delete this folder to avoid duplicates...

Is there any configuration in Rhythmbox to exclude a folder?

I only see a configuration for multiple folders in gconf-editor:
/apps/rhythmbox/library_locations

Software :: Way To Automatically Copy Files Off Of A Cd To A Specific Folder?

Jun 24, 2011

What would be the best way to automatically copy all of the data off of a library of cds to a specific folder on the computer? I was thinking of running a bash script but I've run into a few snags figuring out the correct way to do it. Mainly due to the fact that the cd drive is mounted in a different folder in /media each time I insert a new diskAlso, the mounting and unmounting process causes it's own problems, but I think that could be covered by a for loop that checks /mtab every few seconds or so.

General :: Moving Files From Folders And Subfolders To A Specific Folder?

Aug 21, 2010

I am using secure delete to remove files from a Debian Linux PC. However, secure delete does not remove folders. This has lead me to look at writing a script that would move files to a predetermined folder for deletion. My plan is as follows:I have a folder on my desktop called shredder where I move the contents of the waste bin to. The script needs to identify all files within the folders and sub folders, within the shredder folder, and move each file to the shredder folder and then delete the folder. At this point secure delete can be used with a command like shred -v -u *.*on the shredder folder. The problem I have is in creating the code to move files from the different folders and then deleting the folders. Note that the names of the files, folders and subfolders will not always be known

Programming :: Check Folder For Specific Files Than Move Script?

I want to check every 5 maybe 10 seconds and since cron is setup to run at least a 1 minute increment I'm not sure how to do that time check as probably a loop within the script. One other thing is once the time check is in the script how would a cron job be setup to run this script? Once the script is running cron doesn't need to run it again, is there a feature to check if it's running and if it's not then run it?

find /export/xxxshare -name "*.zip" -exec mv {} /export/store ;

General :: Move Folders That Contain A File With A Specific Extension To A Destination Folder?

Oct 3, 2010

Many years ago, I converted a portion of my files to an arbitrary format with a specific extension. i no longer desire to have them in this format and i would like begin the process of replacing them because conversion is not an appropriate solution. unfortunately, they are mixed in separate folders of the same root folder with files in my current format of a different extension. I feel it would make this process easier if I were to move every folder that contained a file with the undesired format to a separate root folder. The files are stored on a Linux server and shared via samba. How can I do this with a couple of commands or a script? I am open to other suggestions as well. I want to avoid time spent editing text files. Ultimately, I'd like a command that produced a list of full paths for folders, sorted by the number of levels would be a nice touch. A list of all of the files is clearly not what I'm looking for.
