Software :: Installing Enlightenment On OpenSuse 11.2

Downloaded tar from here: [url]
Downloaded and installed all the below dependencies except edje. On ./configure of edje, it says
Code:
configure: error:
Below is the output when I run ./configure from enlightenment-0.16.999.55225 directory.
Code:
Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you installed software in a non-standard prefix.
Alternatively, you may set the environment variables E_THUMB_CFLAGS and E_THUMB_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config. See the pkg-config man page for more details. Yes I know the RPM is available too, but I have to install this tar.

I've been having some problems with KDE lately so I've been wanting to start using E. It looks great and all but I can't get the font DPI to change to 96. I found a little barebones dialog option that had an option for Force Font DPI but it doesn't seem to do anything, even after restarting X from CLI.

There was a similar question in the Centos mailing list in Apr2010, but no response, so I'll reopen it.
Enlightenment is a popular desktop (after Gnome and KDE) so there might be a Centos-savy installer laying around somewhere. Tried 'yum install enlightenment' [which works on some other distros] but found 'nothing'.
I found instructions for 'Fedora' here... [URL] but how Fedora 6 or 7 maps to Centos 5.5

Does anyone know how (and if) I can unpack Enlightenment theme files (*.edj) under Windows XP? I used to unpack tar files to use some graphic elements under windows (I am a Blackbox for Windows themer) but since Enlightenment theme files switched to .edj I can't open them anymore. Is there a Windows application that can help me with this? Can I change the extension to tar or something (I used to do that in the past) and unpack the files

I just recently got into Linux, and I've been experimenting with the various desktop environments available out there. I'm currently running Linux Mint 11. I tried to install Enlightenment by using a "sudo apt-get install e16" command. I then logged out of my session and re-logged in with the E16 session. I played around with it for a bit, but decided that it wasn't for me, and decided to log out again and re-log in to my Gnome session. I was surprised to find a mixture of Gnome and E16.
It appeared as though it was Gnome using the E16 window manager. I then proceeded to run a "apt-get remove e16" command and then restarted the computer. When I logged back in, I found a somewhat wrecked version of Gnome, with an X instead of an arrow for a mouse, no window decorations and no Alt-Tab nor Alt-F4. I decided to run Compiz Fusion and reloaded Compiz and everything went back to normal. How do I correct this? I don't want to have to run Compiz Fusion to reload Compiz everytime I log in...

My PC is a Core2Duo7400/4gbRAM/9600GT. I install Enlightenment e17 on Ubuntu 10.04. It works perfect and runs very fast, but I have a little problem. When I open any browser (Firefox, Chrome, Opera) and a right would click -> save image takes a long time to open the box. I've noticed that happens only once, at first. if I open nautilus, it is the same, it takes quite at first, but only once. I think it is being loaded "some" of gnome and I want to load on boot.

Been trying to get Enlightenment to install on my 13.37 multilib. Used sbo to install most of the libraries (ecore needed the LDFLAGS="-L/usr/lib${LIBDIRSUFFIX}" fix so I manually did that). All installed correctly. Then started enlightenment itself in sbopkg. It did the 'file in wrong format' thing, so I manually dled the slackbuild, added the LDFLAGS line, and ran it. It produced this error, and I have no idea what its telling me.
Code:
checking how to recognize dependent libraries... pass_all
checking for ar... ar
checking for strip... strip
checking for ranlib... ranlib
checking command to parse /usr/bin/nm -B output from gcc -std=gnu99 object... ok
[Code]...

I have installed openSUSE 11.4, and I really like it compared to other linux versions I've tried, but I find it requires a bit more linux know-how.
Being fairly new to linux, it has been quite the effort to learn but I started getting the hang of things via online support and such. Lately I've been having some problems.
I need linux to run a TCAD program, and it requires some openGL functionality and was giving me errors when I tried entering the software related modeling GUI.
Anyhow, I thought it had to do with my graphics drivers, so I decided to update them via ATI proprietary driver. After doing this, the system booted me into the console rather than X.
I tried numerous online guides on how to fix the issues, by running all sorts of boot commands (nomodset), and I read the graphics driver theory, as well as trouble shooting ATI graphics.
In the process, I also installed a radeonhd-xorg11-something through YAST, and that caused a black screen altogether upon boot. I managed to boot into failsafe with x, and from there I removed it via YAST, however this did not resolve issues. I also deleted any xorg.cionf files in hopes that the system will default back to the radeon driver.
As it stands right now, I can only boot into my system via failsafe mode. I'm keeping the unit off for now as it's probably tired from all the hard reboots I had to do . If someone can help me resolve this issue, I can turn it on and enter any commands required, such as finding out the graphics card, the kernel, the driver currently running, etc and I can post it here.

I installed openSUSE alongside Windows yesterday using the default settings. I had the installer automatically shrink my windows partition and create one for openSUSE. When I boot my computer now, the openSUSE bootloader shows up with options to boot into openSUSE, failsafe openSUSE, windows1, windows2, or windows3. Windows1 and windows2 appear to be the same thing - they both boot into windows, they read the same info for the hard drive, they have access to all the same files. Windows3 cannot start and says that the BOOTMNGR is missing. What are these three different windows options, why are two the same, and why doesn't one work?

after getting the ACL extension and then unpacking I try to phpize, but server comes up with the following error message:wget http://pecl.php.net/get/APC-3.0.19.tgz
tar xvfz APC-3.0.19.tgz
[Code]...
Alternatively I tried pecl install, but with same result. Whats wrong? I have looked in /usr/bin/sed and there is (of course) no file or directory named "sed". What is "sed" and how to recover? Would be nice, if you could give me an indication what to look for.

I probably missed something as I come from 11.2 but I downloaded a few rpm (like opera and crossover).
upon installing I right click, select install/remove software and up comes KpackageKit telling me its going to install the rpm. Fine I think, then a new window opens showing me the progress and I see it's installing loads of items I previously removed. For example I have de nvidia repo but I did the drivers the hard way, KpackageKit now installs the repo drivers again. I removed pulseaudio and nouveau but KpackageKit installs them again while it install the opera or crossover RPM. None of these packages are dependencies for the 2 RPM I want to install and I can easly remove them via yast.
the only way I can seem to be able to install these 2 RPM's without getting all the stuff back I removed earlier is either manually from the command line or I make a repository of a local directory and use yast that way ?

If you are installing the JMF Performance Pack for Linux
* Change directories to the install location.
* Run the command % /bin/sh ./jmf-2_1_1e-linux-i586.bin
However, it's #3 that I'm asking about:
3.IMPORTANT: You must finish setting up JMF by following the setup instructions included in the JMF Implementation Documentation.
Then it gives this page: Linux instructions and it talks about:
3. Set your CLASSPATH path to reference the JMF directory. For example,
setenv JMFHOME /home/someuser/JMF-2.1.1e
setenv CLASSPATH $JMFHOME/lib/jmf.jar:.:${CLASSPATH}
4. Set your LD_LIBRARY_PATH (shared libraries path) to point to the JMF libraries. For example:
setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH $JMFHOME/lib:${LD_LIBRARY_PATH}
I checked for setenv but all I got was the location of the manpages. I would need to run JMF mostly when I make animations using Art Of Illusion.I'm running SuSE 11.4

This is a specific newbie question and a general question. How can I install packages from the SUSE CD? AND if possible can I install ndiswrapper from the CD? I don't have an internet connection on the PC I want to install this on and I assume/hope this particular package is on the SUSE 11.2 CD.
If ndiswrapper isn't on the CD whats the correct package I should manually download?
I want install this I'd like to keep this thread specific to this issue- I'll open another thread if what I'm trying to do with ndiswrapper doesn't work.

I currently have vbox 2.0.6 OSE and its been running awesome except I get errors with directx when running 3D apps cause of the video card driver that comes with vbox(at least so far thats I narrowed it down to). So, Im trying to update to 3.2.2 but cant seem to find an easy way to do it. I downloaded the RPM for OpenSUSE 11.1 from Sun's website and when installing it I got errors about files conflicting with the previous version. So I ran a "zypper rm vbox" to remove the current one and then ran the RPM again and it seemed to finish the installation fine, I just cant find it to run it.I currently have the 2.0.6 version installed again just so I can use it... but now am back to trying to get 3.2 installed before looking in another direction.

I'm installing 11.3 from USB stick. I went through the partition screen, etc and it did not mention anything about any data or other stuff on the harddisk. but when I got to the "Live Installation Settings" page, it shows the booting sections as:
+ openSUSE 11.3 (default)
+ openSUSE 11.2 - 2.6.31.12-0.2 (/dev/sdb2)
+ Linux Other
+ Failsafe -- openSUSE 11.3
how do I blow those others away? I want them erased aand don't want them in grub or "installed around", rather, I want it "installed over" them. Also, the "Linux Other" is the USB stick. Is it a problem to have that?

I'm having issues installing Moolde on OpenSuse 11.3. I've downloaded the package but I get missing dependency issues like no mimtex needed and then after I resolve that I get a heap of missing pearl stuff. So do I assume then that the moodle package isn't a complete install even though I found it on the open suse site? Can I get a complete list of what's missing or what I should be installing when I install my open suse 11.3?

Ideally Im trying to install a desktop manager (Gnome ideally), so that I can setup something like VNC and using a graphical interface (I assume this is possible?).
Working on the assuming that it is possible I whats the best way to proceed? Installing YUM to install gnome and a vnc-server?
I found some instructions here, however im not sure if they are accurate: Bob and the Knowledge Factory / Install VNC in VPS server with Gnome
