View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like to know if anyone has run more than one version of mono concurrently. I want to host a Battlefield 2 server with bf2ccd that requires mono 1.1.12. CentOS 5.3 repos provide mono 1.2.4 which is neither new enough nor old enough to support bf2ccd. I have considered compiling a newer version or an older version to accommodate this but I think that the only fully supported version is the 1.1.12 and I want to have the newer mono for other projects. I have used Slackware exclusively up to now and am not familiar with CentOS yet so I would like to avoid compiling if I can. The server is an unmanaged dedicated server so I'm not certain of all of the details. AFAIK it is a standard CentOS 5.3 install.

I am new to Linux and I am trying to install puppy on an old IBM thinkpad 600X (10gb hd, 196mb ram) When installing puppy from a cd, it loads up and does the kernel stuff before "Searching for Puppy files in computer disk drives" - this takes about 10 minutes before saying "pup_421.sfs not found. Dropping out to initial ramdisk console" then it goes to "/bin/sh can't access tty; jon control turned off". then it stays like that and doesn't continue.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSo, I have compiled a C# program on Linux using MonoDevelop. When I try to execute the resulting binary, my system tries and fails to run it as a windows executable, with wine. Wine gives me the following message:
$ ~/bin/MyMonoApp
wine: Install the Windows version of Mono to run .NET executables
~/bin/MyMonoApp: command not found
I can only convince it to run by explicitly calling mono:
$ mono ~/bin/MyMonoApp
So, how can I make this the default, so I don't have to explicitly call mono every time?
What desktop environment should i install to develop Gnome apps? As i cna see ,the required tools are

I know there are many threads about dual boot linux windows. I did a search but couldn't find for this specific question. I'm planning to use Puppy Linux as my main OS on my P4 machine. I asked a friend of mine who knows Linux very well. I asked should I install Puppy alone on my P4 machine? He told me that I should dual boot with XP because sometimes Linux alone does not compatible with graphic card, sound card, Ethernet adapter, etc. If dual boot Linux with Windows. They both can share the same drivers. Is it true?

I have just booted to Puppy (for the first time in my life) on a 6 y/o amd type with a 40Gb HD, Ram: 512.I would like to make a permanent install of puppy onto the HD, I have read various pieces on how to install, defraging, repartitioning, differing file systems. However, i am a bit lost. The computer will be used for e-mail, web browsing, and watching the odd film (films installed on the drive) - I am unsure as to the best combination of file types and partition in order to keep puppy happy and keep some compatibility with the world outside of linux.
For instance, could i have a small partition with the puppy install and setting, and the rest on a format that would be compatible with windows/mac/linux? If so, how do I do this, pls bare in mind that my windows install is running but incomplete. I have the feeling this will be a really simple problem for someone to help me with,

View 6 Replies View RelatedSpecifically, libgtk2.0-cil, seems to be giving me a world of trouble.
I tried to install mono so that I could use an application. When it went to install libgtk2.0-cil, everything broke. I've tried to reinstall, purge, remove, and each time it fails. I've gone through a few iterations of trying to get things to remove cleanly to start fresh, so there are a few packages that are dependent on libgtk2.0-cil causing issues as well.. but thats to be expected. code...
I tried, and cannot locate the files it notes; `/usr/share/cli-common/packages.d/policy.2.6.gtk-dotnet.installcligac. I tried to create them real quick with touch, it removes what I make but still does not uninstall and still gives the err.
Can anyone offer assistance on removing this so that I can start fresh?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've got a Puppy system running version 4.3.0 that I'm trying to get on the home network. I'm using a D-Link DWA-130 (H/W revision C), which has a Realtek RTL8192U chipset. I got the drivers off of D-Link's website, and they compiled and installed just fine, but when either a) I try to connect to the network, or b) while I'm browsing the web, the system locks up completely. No mouse, no keyboard, no Ctrl-Alt-Bksp to get out of X, nothing.
I'll outline my steps: Install Puppy using a "Full" HDD install (not "Frugal"). Copy the "devx_430.sfs" file (which I got from the Puppy website) from a thumb drive to the "my-documents" folder (although the exact location proabably doesn't matter). Mount it, cd to the mounted directory and execute "cp -a --remove-destination ./* /" and "sync". Copy the kernel source for 2.6.30.5 ("kernel_src-2.6.30.5-patched.sfs4.sfs") to the same directory. Mount it and execute the same commands as before. Copy the folder containing the RTL8192U drivers ("rtl8192u_linux_2.6.0006.1031.2008") to the root directory (i.e. "/"). cd to the folder in the terminal and run "make", "make install".Reboot the machine. Set up networking using the Puppy Internet Connection Wizard. HERE'S WHERE IT SCREWS UP: It connects, but after a while (e.g. just after logging into LQ through it, as a test) it freezes the entire system.
I have to do a hard reboot ("panic button"), then a soft reboot (for some odd reason the usb module won't load after a hard reboot, so the mouse won't work) to get the system working again, only to have it lock up again once it connects to the network.
Are these drivers broken? Outdated? Is there anything I can do to fix this? EDIT: I should add that this only occurs when the adapter is plugged in. If I boot the system with it unplugged, it works fine (probably because it never loads the kernel module).

I'm trying to install Puppy 525 on my Slackware 13.37 PC as a dual-boot using LILO. Puppy is living, all on it's own, in sda6, a 6 GiB partition. It got there by using the Puppy Universal Installer and selecting a 'Full' install, not a 'Frugal' install. I cannot find 'LILO' type instructions, only 'GRUB' type instructions.
Has anyone succeeded in doing a hard drive install of Puppy with the LILO boot loader?
Edit: I'll probably regret it, but I used Puppy's GRUB installer.
