Ubuntu :: Firefox 3.5.7 (ubuntuzilla Upgrade) Does Not Fully Quit / Crashes Firefox
Jan 9, 2010I recently upgraded (via Ubuntuzilla) to firefox 3.5.7 and now, every single time I close Firefox, the program seems to crash without quitting completely.
First, I receive an error saying that the program will not close and asks me if I want to Force Quite or Wait for it to close on its own. This has been happening ever since I upgraded to Karmic and if I just wait it usually quits fully after a couple seconds.
Now what happens is this: the window still closes, but if I try to reopen Firefox then I get this error stating that Firefox is already open and therefore cannot be opened again. The only way to get back into Firefox is to restart the entire computer. (Incidentally, this is the same problem that occurs whenever I try to Force Quit Firefox)
This now happens every single time I "close" Firefox.
Does anyone know the source of this error? Or a workaround?

Nov 25, 2010After I updated the Ubuntu on my Lenovo S10 netbook from 10.04 to 10.10 Firefox crashes when I try to open it. I tried uninstalling it and installing it again (with the add / remove software function) so I thought I would have a "plug-in free" Firefox - but it still crashes. At the moment I am using Chromium - but I want Firefox back - so what do I do ?

Jun 1, 2010i just upgraded to ubuntu 10.04 from 9.10, and now i can't view any flash video in fullscreen mode (videos, atdhe, etc.). when i click on fullscreen firefox crashes instantly. everything was working fine in 9.10.
i looked around on the forums; i tried to install the flash-aid extension for firefox. it says that my architecture is 32bit, then reinstalls the flash plugin, but that doesn't help; fullscreen still crashes. i also tried to install the 64bit version from adobe's website, but that doesn't help.
i had a look at the mozilla website [url] i tried to preload the libgl.so.1 library as suggested there, but that doesn't help. i wanted to try to disable hardware acceleration in the flash player settings, but i can't even change the settings; when i right-click on settings, the adobe small preferences screen appears but i can't click on anything, nothing works.
that's all on ubuntu 10.04 with firefox 3.6.3 and flash player 10,0,45,2. i also installed the newer 10.1 flashplayer plugin from the adobe website, but firefox still crashes.
Ubuntu :: Load Any Webpages On Firefox In 10.10
Dec 5, 2010I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 x64bit and am having a problem with Firefox. I'm currently dual booting windows 7 and Ubuntu. My net works perfectly on Windows 7 and even on Ubuntu I was able to download a NVIDIA driver and 193MB worth of updates for Ubuntu. I just can't seem to load any webpages on Firefox. I have DHCP enabled but I also tried a static IP address but still had no success. I also tried adjusting my proxy settings in Firefox cycling through no proxy, Auto-detect proxy settings etc. but i still could not load any pages.
The error message is always "The connection has timed out. The server at ubuntu.com is taking too long to respond." I've tried other websites and can't load them. As a point of interest I was able to access my routers web config page.

Jul 13, 2011I just recently had to have Ubuntu installed on my computer, and of course, the Web Browser they put on here is Firefox, which I love, however...... Before I had Ubuntu, I had Windows, but due to a problem with a nasty virus, and then not having the original product code for Windows, I couldn't get Windows back on my computer so they put lovely Ubuntu on it. Now, I am a Manager at a hotel, and I have to be able to view my hotel security cameras from home when I am not at work. It is an IP web address and it is not compatible with Firefox. My question is this. Is there any plugin out there that would make webpages that are non compatible with Firefox able to be viewed?

Apr 19, 2011Since upgrading to Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal, I have this problem where programs to redirect me to webpages. It just loads up my home page and acts like it's finished. Even if I have Firefox previously open, nothing happens.Programs this happens with are Apport (when I try to file bug-reports), Tomboy (if I click "get add-ins"), and Liferea until I edited a setting telling it not to use the default gnome browser but to use Firefox.I know the first thing you'd think hearing that is that my web browser isn't set in my gnome default applications, but it is. Apr 6, 2011I think from upgrading to Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal. Whenever programs ask me to send reports (bug reports) they fail to redirect me to the proper launch pad bug report page. It just loads up my home page and acts like it's finished. Even if I have Firefox previously open, nothing happens.
Liferea was doing the same thing until I changed it from using the Gnome Default to Firefox. Perhaps this is a gnome default failure or something?

Feb 12, 2010Recently I was creating an image in GIMP when I needed to add a new font. I went to my mounted XP drive and copied the file I wanted over into /usr/X11R6/share/fonts/TTF then I went to the font installer as root and installed the font system wide. After that I reloaded GIMP and the font was available. A little while later I went to browse the internet and when I loaded up firefox, it showed a properly formatted and spaced page with no text on it at all. If I highlighted a line, the invisible text would copy to the clipboard properly and I could read it that way. I figured it might've been a just a FF issue, but when I loaded up Seamonkey, I wound up with the same problem. I'm using Firefox 3.0.16 and Seamonkey 2.0.1. I tried going into the preferences and changing the default font, but no matter what I change it to, it doesn't fix it. Slack 1.2 running kernel 2.6.27.31-smp. I use slapt-get to stay up to date and as far as I can tell i have the latest patches and pkgs.

Jul 24, 2011Recently my Firefox 5.0 started to crash randomly. This morning, it crashed twice within three minutes. I believe that it crashes mostly during loading something (such as a new tab), but it can also just crash when nothing is being done to it. I can be reading one page of text and it crashes. When it crashes, there is a "Submit a report" thing. When I click Restart Firefox, it doesn't. What I can think of is the use of Flash-aid and the addition of a 4GB bar of RAM. I re-executed Flash-aid because 1080p full-screen was choppy (still is). I don't think it is a Flash problem since with Gnash, Firefox also crashes. The RAM bar is a Lexar 4GB DDR3 SODIMM 1066-1333MHz. All other programs run correctly. I have re-installed Firefox, Firefox-branding and such in Synaptic. Still crashes.

May 21, 2010I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 and, when using Hulu, if I try and enter Fullscreen Mode, Firefox crashes to the desktop. Is this a known bug? Is there a fix for it? Any idea what could be causing it? I'm using fglrx for my integrated ATI card, by the way, but the standard open-source drivers made video choppy, and I had the same problem with Hulu.

The whole xfce environment + mouse + keyboard froze; with no other way out than making a hard reboot and starting firefox in safe-mode and tjecking off the tab with the gnu gallery art. The graphics on the screen was messed up when it crashed the second time. I'm wondering how firefox would be able to make the whole desktop environment and keyboard input freeze.. I have run the page, 'GNU o Lantern' again, which causes the freeze. The reason why I have posted this under Desktop Environments is that Firefox causes my Desktop Environment to freeze.

Jan 26, 2010I don't know what happened, but this happened in openSuSE 11.2 as well. Now when I try to view any media that involves the flash plugin, FireFox crashes. I've reinstalled the flash-plugin multiple times. I've tried downgrading to FireFox 3, but 3.5 always remains. I installed some software last night, but it didn't conflict with anything on my system. Is there some form of bug with the new flash? Is there a functionality time-bomb, that kills itself after a while?
I saw that someone else was having issues with flash freezing FireFox.

Aug 27, 2010Firefox crashes randomly. Frequency: few minutes to hours. It is not website-specific. Happens on both flash and non-flash sites. Seems to happen more often when I'm doing something complicated, like editing a photo album on facebook,or using a javascript-heavy page. Safe mode does not help.It used to work perfectly. I don't remember when the crashes began, possibly a month or two ago... So I don't know if they are caused by an update or by something I installed.
Most solutions I found were for problems with the Firebug extension (which I don' have) or for problems with fullscreen flash (which is not the case).Firefox 3.6.8, fully updated Lucid 64bit When started from terminal, it sometimes outputs an exception at startup, then nothing, then "Killed" before crashing. Ubuntu :: Firefox Crashes When Opening Music Website
Oct 19, 2010I have a strange problem with my browser(s), even Epiphany....when I go to my music site [URL] then log in, go to my page and click on link to play a song the browser Crashes. It never did this before and I dont know what I could have done to cause this. It only does this on this website. Could it be that they use a Quicktime plugin to play the music? I don't know cause I used to be able to play music on there before. It doesnt do this on my Reverbnation site page, just Icompositions. If I click on the icon to restart browser a box comes up saying "we're sorry"...your browser crashed for no apparent reason.....and offers a choice to either reload the page (that repeatedly crashes) or start new session. It isn't a big deal but this never used to happen before. Could it be some bad code on that website?
