Ubuntu Multimedia :: Firefox Crashes When Flash Is Involved
Jan 26, 2010
I don't know what happened, but this happened in openSuSE 11.2 as well. Now when I try to view any media that involves the flash plugin, FireFox crashes. I've reinstalled the flash-plugin multiple times. I've tried downgrading to FireFox 3, but 3.5 always remains. I installed some software last night, but it didn't conflict with anything on my system. Is there some form of bug with the new flash? Is there a functionality time-bomb, that kills itself after a while?
I saw that someone else was having issues with flash freezing FireFox.
Here is some system info:
CPU - AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2GHz
Video - ATi 2400HD chipset (MSI RX2400Pro)
Audio - Ensoniq PCI card
RAM - 2GB DDR1
i just upgraded to ubuntu 10.04 from 9.10, and now i can't view any flash video in fullscreen mode (videos, atdhe, etc.). when i click on fullscreen firefox crashes instantly. everything was working fine in 9.10.
i looked around on the forums; i tried to install the flash-aid extension for firefox. it says that my architecture is 32bit, then reinstalls the flash plugin, but that doesn't help; fullscreen still crashes. i also tried to install the 64bit version from adobe's website, but that doesn't help.
i had a look at the mozilla website i tried to preload the libgl.so.1 library as suggested there, but that doesn't help. i wanted to try to disable hardware acceleration in the flash player settings, but i can't even change the settings; when i right-click on settings, the adobe small preferences screen appears but i can't click on anything, nothing works.
that's all on ubuntu 10.04 with firefox 3.6.3 and flash player 10,0,45,2. i also installed the newer 10.1 flashplayer plugin from the adobe website, but firefox still crashes.
flash version 10.0 r45 in firefox plays video, graphics, and sound just fine. however, while i'm playing a video on videos, or listening to pandora, the sound could unexpectedly crash. when this happens, sound doesn't just stop playing. it keeps playing but loops the sound every second or so - it's kind of strange to describe; the sentence, "hello, how are you?" could sound like "he-he-he-he ar-ar you-you-you". has anyone experienced this? i say it happens 'unexpectedly' because i can't replicate the crash on demand, but it happens in every firefox session. it seems that it does not matter what i'm doing - i've tried crashing it by making a flash video full screen and exiting continuously etc. because sometimes it happens when i'm going to full screen or changing tabs.
however, most of the time it happens when i'm not even touching the computer - i'm not sure if some background process can cause flash's buffer to overflow, or whatever. other times, it doesn't even need me to play anything for it to crash the sound in flash - it could loop sound from the first time i tried playing it in flash in that ff session. even when i exit firefox or pause the sound it takes a few second for the loops to stop. however, when i restart firefox the sound is fine until it crashes again and i have to restart, again! i tried removing libflashsupport as i read in other threads that it causes sound issues - no luck there. i uninstalled, installed and all that jazz. tried strace - doesn't report any flash errors for some reason, or as far as i can understand.
i also installed the flash debugger for use with the firebug extension, flashbug addon in firefox, but i'm not getting anything there either - i think it can't locate the flash debugger, although it lists the right version. i haven't had this problem with chromium yet, but i mostly use it when flash sound in firefox crashed and i don't want to reload ff; i think they use the same 'libflashplayer.so'? also, just to clarify, sound from the mplayer plugin works fine, and when the sound crashes in flash it does not cause ff to crash and quit. firefox continues to run normally but when i play sound in flash it starts looping. i've had sound problems in the past and i'm thinking there is something i messed up in the packages i have installed. i uninstalled pulseaudio because it was the only way i could find to get my skype working. how would i know if there are conflicting elements?
it seems to me like there should be a conflict between all those using the same sound control? however, why would it just happen unexpectedly? also, is there a way that i could dissociate sound from firefox without having to reload a whole session with many tabs?
Why is it that Adobe Flash frequently crashes on Firefox 4. I'm using opensuse 11.4 64bit ed. Is gnash better for ...... This is getting really annoying.
I just installed firefox and flash-plugin.The version of firefox is 3.0.10, package is firefox-3.0.10-1.el5.centos.The version of flash-plugin is 10.0.22.87, package is flash-plugin-10.0.22.87-1.el5.rf.But firefox crashes when there is flash in web page, unless disable flash plugin in firefox.
Can I install 3.6.6 on Fedora 13? I want it because Firefox 3.6.4's Flash crashes too much, and I would just love to run the latest version. How do I get it ?
I noticed this issue was brought up back in 2005, but because that thread was in the "archives" I couldn't reply to it. Any time I right click on anything that has flash, my browser goes grey and is unresponsive. I'm forced to force quit Firefox. I'm still in the process of making sure this bug hasn't already been reported in 2010.OS: Ubuntu 10.10 MaverickGnome 2.32.0Browser: Firefox 3.6.12Flash: File: npwrapper.libflashplayer.soVersion: Shockwave Flash 10.1 r102 Installed from restricted extras in repos
I'm running ubuntu 10.10 and firefox crashes randomly. I t doesn't appear to be connetcted to flash or anything in particular. I attached a screenshot of the crash report abd here is what it said when I clicked the details button:
I'm within Firefox and start playing ..... movies Firefox crashes. Thats not the worst of it however; the process locks up the whole system and I have to reboot. I attempt the kill it with now luck. Killing the PPID doesn't help because it got to 1. I even looked a pstree to kill parent processes without any luck. I'm like WTF. Firefox crushes with the "ZL" in the line when running the ps command also. I'm going to uninstall Adobe flash and reinstall it to see if that helps at all. This is the only time I have every had this type of issue.
Recently my firefox 3.0 browser keeps crashing sometimes when I play flash media. I have googled this issue but there is no clear answer as such why it happens and whats the remedy. So here I am. I ran firefox from terminal and here is the output
I have yet to make flash run smoothly on Linux. I tried Chromium, Firefox, flash versions from 8 and up; it runs but makes firefox crash, chromium does not crash but it's all slow and breaky. Flash 9 runs and does not crash but has no sound. No version on any browser can run HD flashes, it just breaks up and runs like in 3 second interval frames.I have tried everything I've read and spent 3 months trying to watch the nfl.com unsuccessfully. Is flash working smoothly for anybody?
when I click fullscreen in BBC iPlayer or ..... or whatever, the whole browser crashes instantly, no warning. And secondly my visual effects aren't working. When I go into Appearance and try and change from 'None' to 'Normal', it says 'Searching for available drivers' for about 20 seconds, and then says 'Desktop effects could not be enabled'.Both visual effects and fullscreen flash worked fine until about lunchtime today, and I honestly can't think of anything I did that would've changed setting or messed something up, so I really don't know.
i'm in 64 bit kubuntu, with the the nswrapper in 10.10http://www.metacafe.comin firefox i get the sound but not the video in metacafe, when the video is unblocked by flash block. Others have the same problem?
I have a ATI radeon x1550 video card flash run slow (very low fps) but didn't crash I installed x.org/fglrx-amdcccle flash runs very nice but crashes on full screen.
I've searched and tried flash-aid and reinstalling flash nether worked. I've also removed x.org/fglrx-amdcccle and it stopped the crashing but made the videos unwatchable (low fps).
*Useing 11.04 ubuntu *Does the same thing whit my old ATI 9550
I use slack 13.1 64 bits on my intel i7 machine. That is I can't find a flash-player plugin that works on all browsers. The firefox crashes on open. The release of adobe 64 bits plugin simply doesn't work on any browser. I use slack 13.1 64 plus kde. Anyone knows some that works?
I play two online games. One uses flash (Habbo), the other java (RuneScape). With the flash one, it loads everything up until the part where it loads the interactive elements (hovering navigators, interactive chat rooms etc), then it crashes and tells me to reload. With the java one, everything loads up until the login screen, but when I actually go to log in, it just sits there and tells me it's connecting but doesn't do anything.
I've asked the support team on Habbo for assistance, but I got a reply telling me to clear my temporary files with instructions for windows machines, even though I specified I was on Ubuntu. I did what they instructed me to (which was clearing everything from my DNS cache to my temporary files), with no amazing results. Runescape was pretty much the same. I think it's something to do with my internet... I'm not really an expert at this.
I've got annoying problem. After I've installed newest version of Adobe Flash Player, i have problem with his normal working. AFP crashes YT, Vimeo and all things connected with Flash. I've tried open FF in terminal, and i got that error: Code...
Flas Player ver. ->10.1.53.64-1lucid1. Do you have any idea what's going on?
After update of adobe plugin to version 10.1.102.64 (10.1.r102) plugin crashes if I try to switch to full screen. Previous plugin (10.1.53.64) worked perfectly well. Anybody with the same problem? My system is System76 Gazelle, Ubuntu 8.04 with all latest updates, nvidia drivers.
Additional info:
1. Same effect in Google Chrome, which uses its own plugin 10.1.r103
2. Same effect (both in Firefox and Chrome) on Thinkpad T41 with ubuntu 8.04
I downgraded plugin to r53 for now, but it's not a good idea, last update fixed some security issues.
I'm running Xfce 4.6.1 and xfdesktop 4.6.1.1 (or so aptitude said). When I use 'None' image option - just colour - I get the colour I ask for but if I change that to either 'Single image' or 'Image list' then both the image and the background colour are made greyscale.
I have tried looking through all the options I could find to do with Xfce and searching Google but I don't know how to phrase it as my searches tend to bring up black and white wallpapers.
Running X as a different user on the same computer does not cause the same problem which makes me think it might be cause by a user setting though I spent a long time with a black and white wallpaper and do not know when the issue first arose.
Another post regarding the Firefox/Flash issue on Ubuntu 10.04 ... My main question is that I don't understand why Flash in Firefox (Huffington Post videos of The Daily Show) works differently on two computers that are identically configured (but cf. below):
- both have Firefox 3.6.3;
- within Firefox aboutlugins, all plugins with "flash" are the same;
- within Synaptic, all things that have "mozilla", "flash", "adobe" are identically installed on both (that includes Adobe Flash plugin Version 10.1.53.64ubuntu0.10.04.1)
The only difference is that the computer where it works is a 64bit system, the one where it doesn't work is a 32bit system. Can this be true, that this is the thing that makes this huge difference? Any fixes around for that (other than FlashAID)?
Its been more than 6 months that I have used this current installation of Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS, and Adobe Flash still does not work out of the box. Its worked on the 32bit installation, yet never worked for the x86_64 install.
firefox almost always crashes when a flash video plays except when firefox is started in terminal, in this case flash becomes slow and the following message appears in terminal:
I just upgraded to 10.04 RC 64bit and cannot start firefox anymore but get the following message back
Quote: LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /home/abc/.mozilla/plugins/nppdf.so [/home/abc/.mozilla/plugins/nppdf.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32] LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/nphelix.so [/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/nphelix.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32] Attempting to load the system libmoon Segmentation fault
if i rename my .mozilla folder and start a new profil, firefox will start but crash if you click on a flash video or whatever. moreover I relly need my profile, stored passwords, bookmarks. this is probably a crazy flash problem again but please do not redirect me to ... this is a bug in 10.04 as it worked in 9.10 before and I would feel very uncomfortable to install some unmaintained random files the very first day I use a LTS version .
any ideas how to get firefox working (even without flash as flash works in opera without problems).(and no, I will not create a bugreport in the launchpad; there are already sooo many about flash and flash64 adding just a new one will not help anybody and i am just trying to get firefox started)
i'm running on 64-bit 10.04, and i can't seem to get flash working; well, i can see videos on newgrounds, but not on videos. it keeps telling me to install the latest flash player, and even when i install it through synapticit never shows up in firefox's list of installed plugins. then when i try to install it through adobe's site using the apt url, it says that the package it's trying to install is virtual, and the installation fails. i've also tried gnash, but that doesn't play videos videos, and i tried to install swfdec, but that didn't show up in firefox's plugins either
Firefox can't detect any keypresses from the programs I make. I use Macromedia Flash 8. Make a text box and give it the instance name"txt_test" add this actionscript code.
i've noticed a problem this morning when watching bbc flash videos on firefox (3.6). whilst the video is playing, firefox is fine and new tabs can be opened. but once you close the tab or window where the video was, firefox freezes and has to force quit. other flash video sites like videos, cnn, sky news, guardian and flash games seem okay and firefox doesn't freeze. bbc videos seem okay on firefox on winxp too. the bbc problem occurs on news video and on iplayer vids.
Using Ubuntu 9.04, Firefox 3.5, Flashplugin 10.0.45. Flash videos have no sound in Firefox. In Seamonkey they work nice. Tried unsuccessfully many solutions found here and other websites.
I am using kubuntu 9.10 64-bit on AMD M500 machine I had installed the 64-bit special package for flash But after i updated firefox it cannot detect the flash while opera still does Would i have to reinstall (i would already have if it were straightforward)
I've spent the better part of a day off working on this. I can't pinpoint the problem, either.I've removed *every* flash package in synaptic and installed:
I've rebooted, removed, purged, installed, reinstalled. rebooted. rebooted.I've tried flash-aid.If I remove ALL flash,..... correctly says the plugin isn't installed. If I install adobe-flahplugin, I get a black box where the video should be.The only thing that worked is installing Google Chrome...where flash worked on the first freaking run. But I'm really partial to firefox and this is kind of really POing me.What I would like to know is if Firefox 3.6.6 and Flash 10.1 r53 WORK FOR ANYONE or if I'm just wasting my time???
