Ubuntu / Apple :: Firefox 3.5.8 Crashes With Some Websites
Feb 18, 2010
I just updated to Firefox 3.5.8. I experience constant crashes with some websites. Does anyone here have the same problem ? How can I go back to the previous version? System: Karmic Koala on a MacBook 2.1
I recently upgraded (via Ubuntuzilla) to firefox 3.5.7 and now, every single time I close Firefox, the program seems to crash without quitting completely.
First, I receive an error saying that the program will not close and asks me if I want to Force Quite or Wait for it to close on its own. This has been happening ever since I upgraded to Karmic and if I just wait it usually quits fully after a couple seconds.
Now what happens is this: the window still closes, but if I try to reopen Firefox then I get this error stating that Firefox is already open and therefore cannot be opened again. The only way to get back into Firefox is to restart the entire computer. (Incidentally, this is the same problem that occurs whenever I try to Force Quit Firefox)
This now happens every single time I "close" Firefox.
Does anyone know the source of this error? Or a workaround?
I sometimes take screen shots of websites in Firefox. The easiest way is to use one of the many extensions, e.g. Screengrab. However, I have discovered that, when trying to take a screen shot of the entire web page, the lower part of the page is not captured. This happens on WordPress sites and, curiously, on Mozilla's own results pages. Other pages seem to be unaffected. However, on Chromium, it works perfectly.
I have installed dwm as window manager and whenever I start firefox it crashes after a few seconds. When I use the gnome window manager everything works fine.Anyone has a hint for me what I can do?

I want my fire-fox to save and quit my important sites. My fire-fox version is 3.0.18.It ask me for the same options. sometimes it asks me to save and quit and sometimes does not, why?
I have been having some issues with the browsers, I use firefox and I have noticed that many of the websites I visit don't display correctly. I have attached some examples..not all sites display like that but many do.
I have recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. It got installed and is working o.k. However I am facing one typical issue: When ever I try to open any secured site ( like bill payment sites etc. ) , firefox simply does not open these pages. However at the bottom left it displays -Done.
I have freshed installed lucid.Linux ubuntu 2.6.32-22-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 28 13:28:05 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/LinuxThe problem is firefox is very very slow to open web sites.
I have got an interesting issue here. After having ubuntu running for awhile I will visit a certain website that maybe running a script or flash or something and then all of a sudden the screen goes blank for a second and then everything comes back except the mouse pointer is no longer visible. I can logout and then back in and the pointer is back. I wasn't going to ask about it but it is getting annoying having to log out and than back in. I am running a ati card with the iopen source ati driver. It is a VisionTek 9250 pci card with 128 mb of ram. I wonder if it is a combo of this, Adobe Flash and Compiz.
Having an issue with Firefox 4 and horrible flickering and distortion in some flash sites, esp Facebook games. This is not an issue in 11.3 and FF 3.6.Issue is present in 11.4 with FF4Issue is present in 11.3 if I upgrade to FF4 and disappears if I downgrade to FF3.6 Issue is not present in Windows and FF4.
A computer security researcher has released a plugin for Firefox that provides a wealth of data on Web sites that may have been compromised with malicious code.
The plugin, called Fireshark, was released on Wednesday at the Black Hat conference. The open-source free tool is designed to address the shortcomings in other programs used to analyze malicious Web sites, said Stephan Chenette, a principal security researcher at Websense, which lets Chenette develop Fireshark in the course of his job.
I'm on a MacBook Pro 2,2 with Ubuntu 10.04. Multiple times Ubuntu freezes up and then crashes. I'm not entirely sure what is causing these crashes, but they happen mostly when I'm running anything graphics related, especially games. Although the crashes haven't been isolated to those instances. Any ideas on what could be causing this?
Anywhere from 2 -> 6 times a day, my computer will freeze up. If any audio was playing, it will repeat the last few seconds over and over again. I've been dealing with the problem for a couple of months now, with no solutions.
I know this is not a win-doze forum but i always ask my questions here so here goes.I am having what appears to be a DNS problem on a friends laptop. He is running windows XP. I CAN connect to networks and even ping websites but i CANNOT browse in Internet Explorer or FIrefox.
I am using ubuntu 8.04 and has firefox 3.5.15.of late, whenever i open [url] and [url] firefox crashes.also when opening window for changing themes, background firefox crashes.
I just installed firefox and flash-plugin.The version of firefox is 3.0.10, package is firefox-3.0.10-1.el5.centos.The version of flash-plugin is 10.0.22.87, package is flash-plugin-10.0.22.87-1.el5.rf.But firefox crashes when there is flash in web page, unless disable flash plugin in firefox.
I am running Ubuntu 10.04, up to date, 32 bits. I tried to open a huge (10.000 x 1.200 pixels approx) Wikipedia image, and everything crashed. Nor Firefox, Gnome or anything else responded from there. Not even ctrl+alt+del, ctrl+alt+backspace, alt+F2, etc. Only the mouse moves, but rather slowly.

I could NOT replicate the problem with Chromium. However, I am not sure if the issue is only firefox since it locks up everything in ubuntu.
The problem trapped me for about one month. After upgrading Ubuntu from 10.10 to 11.04, my firefox regularly crashes. Today I started firefox from the console, and I got the following error code...
I don't know if this problem arose from dbus. Can anyone here help me resolve the problem?
Recently my Firefox 5.0 started to crash randomly. This morning, it crashed twice within three minutes. I believe that it crashes mostly during loading something (such as a new tab), but it can also just crash when nothing is being done to it. I can be reading one page of text and it crashes. When it crashes, there is a "Submit a report" thing. When I click Restart Firefox, it doesn't. What I can think of is the use of Flash-aid and the addition of a 4GB bar of RAM. I re-executed Flash-aid because 1080p full-screen was choppy (still is). I don't think it is a Flash problem since with Gnash, Firefox also crashes. The RAM bar is a Lexar 4GB DDR3 SODIMM 1066-1333MHz. All other programs run correctly. I have re-installed Firefox, Firefox-branding and such in Synaptic. Still crashes.
Anyway, I installed Ubuntu normally. Whenever I try to run Firefox for the first time, it loads for a bit, then it crashes. Every time. I tried reinstalling it, and the isntallation was fine. I managed to connect properly. But it won't run.
I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 and, when using Hulu, if I try and enter Fullscreen Mode, Firefox crashes to the desktop. Is this a known bug? Is there a fix for it? Any idea what could be causing it? I'm using fglrx for my integrated ATI card, by the way, but the standard open-source drivers made video choppy, and I had the same problem with Hulu.
The problem is random but reproducible: go to http://www.tvbythenumbers.com/, navigate around for a while, click some links...eventually firefox (3.6.3 on 10.04) will crash. I tried running firefox from the command line, but all it says is 'Segmentation fault' with no details. What can I do to diagnose this?
I think this case is pretty funny, as I have been using xubuntu for a couple of months - without a single crash or freeze. The first time it freezes is when I am looking through the GNU.org art gallery - [URL] - see link to the exact page in the next post. Not only firefox froze. The whole xfce environment + mouse + keyboard froze; with no other way out than making a hard reboot and starting firefox in safe-mode and tjecking off the tab with the gnu gallery art. The graphics on the screen was messed up when it crashed the second time. I'm wondering how firefox would be able to make the whole desktop environment and keyboard input freeze.. I have run the page, 'GNU o Lantern' again, which causes the freeze. The reason why I have posted this under Desktop Environments is that Firefox causes my Desktop Environment to freeze.
I have upgraded from Ubuntu 10.10 64bit to 11.04 64bit. When trying to launch Firefox 4 it crashes the moment it tries to start. Here is the message I get when starting Firefox from the terminal:
Using 11.04 / firefox 5 / chromium 12 whenever i go to 4OD in firefox, i get this dialogue box pop up (see attached) and occasionally the browser crashes. whatever choice i make in the box, the website is sluggish. same sluggishness in chromium, but no pop up box problem only occurs on this website whats happening / how to stop it ?
Sometimes, when browsing the internet with FireFox, the entire system freezes. The only thing I can do is moving the mouse pointer,I can't use the Run command or anything else.It usually happens after a stand-by.
