Feb 16, 2010I'm back again to admit my ignorance! Received a .ppt slideshow and saved as both .ppt and .odp. What I want to do is save individual slides as some are not required. This seems impossible as clicking on individual slides does not seem to allow for copying. Am I flogging a dead horse?

On my university, the technology center uses the Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. I've been told by my teacher to get GCC for the C language. Searching for GCC on my netbook, I can find two programs: Sysinfo (why?) GGcov (doesn't open) Searching for GCC on the TC Computer, I can find 115 programs... The administrator wasn't there at the moment I checked this, and he'll not be there on this weekend so... I would like to do this by myself tomorrow. With my vast one-week experience with ubuntu, I think such software abundance from the TC computer side is related to repositories. I would like to copy them all to my netbook, if it's possible.
Server :: Local Master Browser Do Not Sync Their List With The Domain Master
Nov 13, 2009I'm managing a residential network. Each flat is its own subnet, and can only communicate with the other flats through a router (i.e. no broadcast). 95% of these 300 subnets only contains windows computers (from lambda users).
My final goal is to be able to browse the entire network from any computer.
I set up a samba server acting as a wins server, and every computer is aware of it because it is registered in the dhcp. So name resolution is working fine for everyone.
The same samba server is set to be the "Domain master browser":
workgroup = WORKGROUP
wins support = yes
prefered master = yes
local master = yes
domain master = yes
os level = 65
When I browse the network (using "net view" or "browstat view"), I can only see the servers which are in the same subnet as the domain master browser.
Now, when in a subnet the computers arrange themselves to find a "local master browser", the only visible computers are the one in that subnet.
What I don't understand is why all the local masters don't synchronize their lists with the domain master.
So, to sum up, every subnet get the following behaviour:
-if a local master is elected, the only visible computers are the one in the same subnet.
-if no local master is elected, the only visible computers are the one in the subnet of the domain master.
-if I add another samba, configured as a local master winning all elections, then the magic is working and the lists are synchronized.
What is expected:
-every computer can see all the computer from all the subnets.
Server :: Setup Master / Master Mysql In HA Setup Without Use Of Load Balancer Provided By Host?
Mar 31, 2010I have a load balancer with 2 web servers behind it. The web servers rsync with cloud storage to update their apache directories 1 time every hour. Apache is just running php pages that pull/push data to a DB so they dont need to be updated that often. However I need to figure out how to implement a Master/Master MySQL setup to have my web servers point to for the PHP stuff. I need to implement it without having a single point of failure. The Load balancers are useless for failover as they only detect availability based on Ping request. So putting a master/master setup behind a Load Balancer is out. what is the best way to setup the master/master mysql in a HA setup without the use of a load balancer provided by the host?

Feb 9, 2011I am running Suse 11.1 64bit, with KDE, recently I received a pop up on my screen, "something about update problems", I used Yast 2 and selected online Update and it couldn't find updates for Nvidia and froze at that point. I dis-enabled that repository and refreshed all of the remaining Repositories individually and it seemed to work. I then went to the repositories listing and selected "Add" and selected "community" repositories and received the following: WARNING Unable to download list of repositories or no repositories defined. What is my problem? How do I acquire the list of community repositories? I can live with out the Nvidia repository for now but would eventually like to get it back.

General :: Individual Cpu % In 'top' Output?
Jan 22, 2010Usually to view individual cpu % we press '1' in the interactive mode of top.
However I am not able to figure out the logic to get the same output in batch mode i.e,
top -n1b
I am redirecting this output to a file to view it later and stuff like that, so I need the batch mode. Is it possible? Installing a separate tool for this is not gonna be possible.
I'm looking for an option that I am missing or some way to capture the output.

Since we don't have connected IPs in ranges we can't use the range scripts but I don't know of a way to easily add a long list of individual IPs. These are CentOS servers, by the way

May 3, 2010Just installed Fedora 12. After installing a new distro, I usually remove the individual programs that I have no use for or interest in. In Fedora, I've noticed that, for KDE at least, I can't remove just one program I have to remove the whole "group" of programs. For example, I might want only one game on my system and remove the rest but KPackageKit only allows to me to remove KDE Games (all of them) instead of just the programs I have no interest in. This is not the same as other distros I have tried. Is there a way around this?

Jul 1, 2011This sounds like an old topic. I have an active user account in my system that I don't want it to be listed in GDM greeter. In the past (prior to Gnome 3), it can be achieved by configuring the "Exclude" option of the "greeter" section in the Custom.conf or by creating the user account with UID smaller than MinimalUID. But it seems the same old trick does not work for me in Gnome 3. I have tried the "Exclude" option with no effect at all. Using the UID approach only solves my problem partially, as it only exclude it in the GDM greeter during "switch user" but it still being shown in the list in the initial greeter after a cold boot.
Anyone know how to do this in Gnome 3?

To install the driver first, I had to do build-essential and headers-generic. Since I have a desktop, i thought of manually downloading the packages on my desktop and then transferring it to the acer. But i came across many dependencies for build-essential, that is, I first had to install something else before build-essential. The dependencies led me to further dependencies and so on. Is there any way for me to get all the packages without downloading each individual ones?

I started reading the GTK+ 2.0 Tutorial, but a) I've only been able to write a small "Hello World" program, and that tested my patience, and b) I'm not seeing anything which allows you to plot a pixel directly. Back before I migrated to Linux, I used the Windows GDI SetPixel() function for plotting pixels sequentially (this was for a small fractal generator). Ubuntu :: Deleting Individual Files From Disk Image?
Mar 23, 2010Recently, I made a disk image of my external hard drive (as it had recently failed). I have yet to get it replaced, so I have a .dd file sitting on my computer. Now, I can mount the .dd file so I can access the files, but I cannot delete any of them. I want to be able to copy the files file by file to my normal folders and delete them from the backup file, as my disk isn't large enough for me to copy them all to the folders and just delete the entire file.
TL;DR = Can I/How do I delete individual files from a .dd backup.
