I'm back again to admit my ignorance! Received a .ppt slideshow and saved as both .ppt and .odp. What I want to do is save individual slides as some are not required. This seems impossible as clicking on individual slides does not seem to allow for copying. Am I flogging a dead horse?

This turned out to be a git clone command.
In my Gnome 2.32.1 running in opensuse 11.4, when I go to select wallpaper for my desktop, one of the options is a space-based slideshow. The files reside in /usr/share/backgrounds/cosmos. When I go there, there are the jpegs with an xml file that seems to controle the slideshow. Is there some kind of utility for creating this xml file? To create one manually, especially with a lot of pics, seems kinda cumbersome.

View 9 Replies View RelatedApart from KsCD and CD Player, (both of which are pretty good, but very basic), I have found it impossible to eject any music CD or DVD on any of the following:
Amarok
JuK
Media Kaffeine
MPlayer and
SMPlayer,
there does not seem to be any button, command or whatever to get the CD or DVD out of the drive, so now find that only way, is to stop player and then to open CD Player and use the eject button there.
Upon boot up, I get lots of new lines added to log files in /var/log concerning apparent problems during boot up. The boot sequence does attempt to show the failure or success during each step as it transitions to the final run level, but is there a good manual or procedure on how to fix each transition, so as to cut down on the amount of pesky warning or error messages?
I am a bit concerned that running a system with warning messages is a bit like running a car low on oil. In the past the goal was to have a perfectly running linux system that came up all the way, and yes, I have seen such. This meant knowing how kernel things work, etc, but still, I would think we would want to pay attention to such things as

and others and work to bring them to a minimum.

I didn't dump the 10K's of log files into this message forum, in case someone asks to see the details, but I am just striving to have the system come up clean, and not with a message like:
Warning: Skipped 98 probes
(whatever that means?? did the kernel just mean that it knew that it is supposed to check 98 things but failed? or that 98 things should have gotten checked but didn't?)
I saw numerous posts here on different programs people like to edit video and some of them are able to create slide shows. What slide show software is best on ubuntu? I cant figure out how to use them. It seems like they are embedded in the video programs. I understand the video stuff, but I dont see the slideshow options other than fade in/out/etc.

Although I can perfectly mount any usb device (stick or disc) as being root, as a user I am not allowed to perform any such action! I have modified the corresponding fstab entry to look like:

My system is OpenSuSE 11.2 (with KDE 4.4, but the problem is the same regardless I am attempting to mount the usb device via the GUI or through the text (c/k)onsole).
My professor uploads presentations in PDF form but I'm not sure how to add notes to the slides using Ubuntu. Does anyone have any preferred applications.

If i am albe to get it to work i will be able to use linux for the 30 laptops we use for our presentations, which is good because windows is giving us some performance problems.
the powerpoint file in question was created in 2010 and has embedded videos in it. Openoffice and LibreOffice do not seem to be able to display the slides right, let alone the videos.
I want to hopefully get the viewer working, or i will have to just remake the powerpoint in odf
I appear to be unable to select individual updates for installation anymore from the Yast Online update screen. I use this to install updates manually on 11.1. But everytime I think I've chosen an update to install, all the updates listed get installed, and not just the one I've chosen. For example I just chose a "Fuse security update" to install and clicked the "Install" button. Nothing further happens until I click "Apply". Then all patches listed under the "All available" listing get applied. How do I just apply the patches that I want to ?

I've asked this on Opera's forum also with no replies yet.When ever I click on a url link, Opera insists on opening two additional identical tabs over what is already there. This happens whether Opera is open already or has to be started from scratch. The link could be in KMail, Akregator or even a link on an applications About box, it makes no difference. I have set Opera up as the default web browser and I am using the following command "opera %u"
View 4 Replies View RelatedFirst thing I do is double click the top of the window to enlarge it and when I do that the window enlarges correctly, but it also lunches an app like the double click lags behind to click on an app after the window enlages, im using the 64bit version.
If u dnt knw wat I mean please try it out and tell me how I can fix this, just double click a sized window to make it fullscreen and tell me wat happens.
I also would like to knw if maybe its the fact that im using the 64bit version and that its glitchy.
I just reinstalled openSUSE 11.3 KDE 4.5, and my mouse pointer keeps auto-clicking. It's weird because it is not even happening 100% of the time, just _most_ of the time. I am using a touchpad, and I have disabled tapping.
I had this exact same issue with Kubuntu 10.10 yesterday before I removed it. I am currently on Windows 7 and all seems well, so it is probably is a Linux software issue.
Firefox and flash have just been automatically updated to 3.6.17-0.2.1 & 10.3.181.14-0.2.1. Flash no longer seems to work very well and right clicking on flash will cause firefox to freeze. These problems do not happen with Opera.

Each time I pass with a cursor over a widget on the desktop its side bar appears, of course it should because of resizing and moving or do some setting, but that is very boring if I do not intend to use that bar. Screenlets behave better, the setting menu appear only with proper clicking. Is there a way to manage jumping widget menu bar not to appear on every cursor passing ?

I am running 11.2 openSUSE and after installing the latest version of the Kaspersky product in question, I went ahead and restarted the machine. At the logon screen, when clicking my user name to log in, the password box would not display.
I tried clicking on the other option and trying it that way and after putting my name in the username box, the machine just started thinking and thinking and nothing happens.
I also tried logging in through terminal service but it would not recognize my password to be correct.
I really need to log into my username since I have important files on that Linux partition. I tried mounting this partition in Windows since I have a dual boot setup but I can only view the folders of the partition and not the contents.
I'm trying to key information into an OpenOffice spreadsheet that is being viewed in another application, typically Firefox. Both windows are sized such that they fit on the screen at the same time. Prior to a week or so ago, this was very straight forward. Now when I click on an app in the Task Manager after opening OpenOffice, other open apps are minimized - sometimes all of them, sometimes just the most recent. I usually have Dolphin, a terminal window, Firefox, OpenOffice and sometimes a spreadsheet open. A friend who is far more familiar with Linux than I, suggested that the memory manager may have gotten confused and that logging out should clear this up. I tried that to no avail, as well as rebooting. I've also looked through the options in each of the apps that I've got open to see if there's any obvious user options that might be affecting this. I've found nothing.

My only problem is I am unable to access my address book when I click <select> when sending a new message; only recent addresses show in the window that pops up. Even if I select <all> in the list of choices, only <recent addresses> show up. In the useful tips that appear upon opening K-mail it states that if I click on < folders> then < Mailing list management> I will be able to select and manage all of my address books. But when I click on <folders> the <mailing list management> is faded telling me that it is not enabled. My question is what must I do to enable the mailing list management to be enabled? I have enabled mailman with no help.

I need to copy partition table for sda, I have 3 primary partitions and 1 extended partition on sda. I understand that fdisk cant copy extended partition table and I need to use sfdisk.
Correct me if I am wrong -
1. For primary partitions

Where it will store the files after backing them up. I tried SUSE 11.2 DVD, it has back up partition table utility under repairs-advanced options but it suggests saving partition table to floppy. Why it doesnt offer to save it on a removable medium or to CD.
when I try to copy files from ftp server, at some moment speed falls to 0, i recive message "copy stalled" and my system frozen.I used Opensuse 11.2 (kernel linux 2.6.31). Some people advise me to upgrade the kernel. I upgraded it to linux-2.6.34, but it did not fixe a problem.Copying from ftp is very important for me, i like opensuse, but if i will not fixe this problem, i will must to change the OS.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I copy files from one partition to another, or from one drive to another, the transfer rates hover around 5-8MB/sec which is kind of slow given that all my hard drives are SATA II. I have the same problem when copying either a single file or a group of files.
I'm running openSUSE 11.2 x64 here (KDE 4.3.5) with three SATA II hard drives that are all formatted with ext3. I have dropped to the CLI and used mv and cp instead - this seems to improve things but I shouldn't have to do this.
