We have a sendmail server located in a DMZ that has normally been able to send SMTP traffic to whatever destination is listed in the address of any given e-mail message. A recent change in network configuration has introduced an e-mail gateway that all servers need to send smtp traffic to in order for the messages to go out to the Internet.

The problem is that my ISP doesn't allow usage of port 25 (as I understand a lot of ISP's don't).I have PHP scripts hat use the mail() function to send e-mails through the Sendmail application.So, my question is: How can I relay messages sent to sendmail to an external SMTP server (like Google Mail, for example)? Would this be easier to do in the PHP configuration, or on the Sendmail side of things?I've used PEAR extensions in PHP to achieve this before, but scripts downloaded from the Internet generally just use the basic mail() function, and it would be a real pain to modify them all.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a CentOS server, and am using Sendmail to relay for various domains. However, I also need to have users send their outgoing mail via this server. I want to have them enter a username and password in Outlook, Thunderbird, etc in their smtp server settings. I currently have this set up via an Exchange server, but I cannot get it to work with Sendmail. I know little about Sendmail, and have done all the config via Webmin, which has worked fine as far as relaying domains. But even though I have added the CentOS user account for the smtp relaying, the clients mail apps give an error saying relaying denied.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having some difficulties comprehending some networking concepts relating to multiple subnets and dhcp servers, or dhcp relay servers. I have built home networks many times before, and they have all followed a very simple formula. A single subnet, let's say 192.168.1.0 which is fairly typical for me. My network's DNS server is always also my networks DHCP server. Typically at 192.168.1.1. When a DHCP client broadcasts for an IP over the subnet, 192.168.1.1(My DNS/DHCP server) will not only tell the client what it's new IP is to be, but will also tell the client what it's Gateway server is. This is ALSO 192.168.1.1 for me typically.
In this manner, a client broadcasts for networking information and is given a usable IP, and told to use 192.168.1.1 for most other functionality. Very simple. However, I am uncertain how to expand this to other subnets. Say.. 192.168.2.0.
A: I can use a separate DHCP server for each subnet. or B: I can use a DHCP Relay agent for 192.168.2.0 to pass the DHCP requests to the primary DHCP server on the 192.168.1.0 subnet.
Option A: is fairly straight forward and have had it functioning fine, but it is really B: I want to know more about. It seems somehow much cleaner to me. I prefer to centralize as much of my network provisioning services as possible. It makes it easier to manage TYPICALLY. My question though is related to Gateways and the use of DHCP Relay Agents....
I want to setup sendmail using my username and password on my ISP to be able to send out messages.This is actually true as the mylocaldomain is not a public Internet domain. Just a localdomain for our local network. However, I was expecting that to change to the username in my authinfo "myusername@myispdomain" since this account is authorized to send out email with my ISP.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to setup postfix (or exim, I don't mind which), so I can move away my last remaining PC from Windows.I've tinkered with Postfix for good part of a month and I can get it to accept emails using SMTP and post them to a virtual mailbox based on MySQL tables. And it rejects mail addressed to local email addresses that it can't find in the table.
First question (or problem.) I've set up Postfix to relay email it cannot deliver locally such as is the case when you send out an email. My remote host requires authentication. How can I set this up?
Second question: I want to force my clients to use either AUTH, TLS or SSL, and not allow anonymous connections (to prevent an open relay server.) How do I set that up without interfering with the smarthost setting? The smarthost login is not one of my clients, it's a pre-determined login and password that is solely used for the email relaying aspect.
Recently my motherboard went out, I replaced it and booted centos 5. All went well except sound, video tuners and netoworking. The sound I re-configured, and have gotten tuners working but I am running into trouble with the new network card. The networking setup is;
DSL wireless router/modem IP 192.168.0.1 connected to XP computer through WIFI IP 192.168.0.3. all set to subnetmask 255.255.255.0 and with DNS servers 192.168.0.1 and 205.171.3.25 the XP computer is the only one that supports my wifi card. On wired LAN I share that connection to 4 devices. 3/4 work well, my cent os 5 box will not connect. here are the lan settings:

Our primary mail server is Exchange 2003 Standard on Windows Server 2003 Standard - don't shout at me; I inherited it already set up this way.I have a couple of hardware identical redundant servers (HP ML350 boxes), all with very fast 2 or 4 disk arrays, multiple core CPUs and plenty of memory, and I am looking at two potential new additions to the infrastructure.
A secondary mail server is high on my list of priories. I've been well and truly bitten by Exchange in the past and given that this particular box has been running four years straight and that it's mail store is dangerously large, having a secondary mail server in place suddenly makes a lot of sense.
A new Exchange 2010 box is currently being set up, but the secondary mail server will remain in place even when the new Exchange server is brought online, so this won't be a wasted exercise.... I also want a gateway box in place to filter and relay mail to the primary server, or to the secondary server if the primary is unavailable. Currently our outer perimeter is:

Untangle running in bridged mode (primarily used for SPAM filtering, URL blacklisting, and very little else) Exchange 2003 sits behind the Untangle box. This is how I want to end up:

I know I could replace/remove the Draytek but I want it to remain for several reasons, including lots of VPN dial-in users already configured and that it offers us an additional layer of email antivirus scanning before things hit the Exchange box. No point switching all of our remote workers over to new tunnels unnecessarily...
I have done some research and have started testing a pilot secondary mail server using Ubuntu/postfix DNS is properly set up and MX records and reverse PTR records are all present and correct, and things are looking encouraging so far. Before I go out over deep waters and start to flounder, has anyone who has done something like this got any obvious howlers I should be looking to avoid ?
I want to configure tls for our sendmail 8.14.x server so that it will attempt to connect to a remote server using tls, and then fall back to an insecure connection. The sendmail.mc file has the following line:

Does this configuration already have the server attempt to connect using tls first, and then fall back to an insecure connection? If not, what would the syntax be in order to accomplish this? Also, what is the best way to check to see how the connection is being made?
I am running Fedora 10 and working with sendmail to send messages via various scripts. I've gotten everything working and under normal circumstances the messages get delivered as expected. However when I reboot my computer, all mail designated for sendmail gets hung up in the queue. I've confirmed that sendmail is set to start on boot (runlevel 5) and I've checked for the existence of sendmail processes (they indeed exist after boot).
However, if I restart the sendmail daemon manually, everything in the queue gets sent and I get flooded with a backlog of emails from the past several hours (or days). Is there a reason or common problem as to why sendmail doesn't actually process mail after startup and why manually restarting the process seems to solve the problem? Is this a bug in sendmail? /var/log/maillog doesn't reveal anything out of the ordinary.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy goal is to have users(Unix Users like root on host1) use evolution /sendmail to send and receive emails between users( Unix users either from host1 or any other host on n a private network. The network is a private network with a few servers without any connection to Internet and no DNS. They resolve one another by /etc/hosts. with smtp configured am able to send and receive emails on one machine(host1) from unix user abc on host1 to user xyz on host1 and vice versa. the commad i used to test is host1@abc #echo "this is a test mail" |mailx zyx@host1 But when i tried sending from user abc on host1 to user xyz on host2 its giving error for DNS unable to resolve hostname.

I am trying to setup sendmail on a fc10 box with dovecot running imap. I have everything configured and running on the server. For example, when I run "echo 'test' | mail -s test user@mydomain.com" or even to someuser@gmail.com, the mail goes through just fine. I can then reply from both of those accounts back to the server, no problem.
Relaying denied Cannot send mail. The SMTP server does not recognize any of the authentication methods supported by Entourage. Try changing the SMTP authentication options in Account settings or contact your network administrator.

View 8 Replies View RelatedFrom my main Postfix SMTP heads, I am sending just a couple select emails (primarily support emails) off to a server that receives them and pipes them into the support software. So far this totally works perfectly and I am pretty happy with the configuration. However, in order for sendmail on the support server to receive those emails I have to place them in the virtusertable of course, but I also have to activate their domain in the local-host-names file. That then causes sendmail to consider itself as the destination server for that whole domain.Is there a way to make sendmail receive email for select addresses without making it think it's the server for the whole domain? This server is only receiving email from two specific smtp servers, so I wonder if I could just permit relaying? Wonder if that would just cause a giant loop though.

now existing GW set on the server is 192.168.1.1, mail receive and send through ISP1. now we wish to set somethings that once the ISP1 line is down, the server will auto switch to ISP2 gateway and continue send and receive mail without manually change of settings
Messages are stuck in my server's /var/spool/mqueue/ folder beyond the lifetime I have specified in confTO_QUEUERETURN (5d). Any idea why this could be? The file permissions appear fine; files in the mqueue folder show rights of: Code:-rw------- 1 root smmspThis is causing an issue because the queues are slowly getting larger and larger. I'm seeing the queue size consistently growing. maillog shows entries like: Code:grew WorkList for /var/spool/mqueue to 28000Just thinking outloud -- could the queue runner not be completing it's job in time? I have a test application that sends out email. It's configured to send it through the sendmail installed on the local machine (distro: RedHat 4.8; sendmail version 8.13.1). The email addresses are external to the machine. I would like to stop most of those emails. I can't use the /etc/aliases file, because that methodology only works for operating system addresses/userid's on the local machine.
I'd like to block certain addresses from getting emailed out, so that users don't get spam from a test server that's been "cloned" from a production server. On the other hand, I don't want to turn off email altogether. I'm pretty sure that if I installed SpamAssassin I'd probably be able to rewrite certain addresses. But SpamAssassin is bloatware for what I want to do. If native sendmail is not able to filter out from sending certain emails based on the "To: " header (in the envelope) is there an app that uses sendmail's milter API that will? I've been away from heavy use of sendmail for awhile, so it had been awhile that I'd been on comp.mail.sendmail, but I notice that traffic is a fraction of what it used to be.
