I have postfix setup right now and it's relying mail to our Exchange server fine. What i would like to do though is have postfix save the email that gets passed through so that if a manager deletes an email, it's easy to look through by date and find the email he's looking for. Well, I'm thinking it would be a lot easier then having to need to pull out the backup tape and try to recover one email. Does anyone know whether I would be able to accomplish this?

Two exchange servers internally. One is setup for example.com (192.168.1.10) and the other is setup for example2.com (192.168.1.20) Both are behind a single public IP.
I want to use postfix to sit in front of the two exchange servers. Postfix will accept mail for both domains and relay to the appropriate server. I have postfix installed with only defaults at this point.

I'm trying to set up a basic smtp server on my local computer that I can send basic, unencrypted email through on port 25. I installed postfix, and I chose the following options:
Internet Site,
System Mail Name: localhost
Root and postmaster mail recipient: I left this blank
For other domains to accept mail, I entered : NONE, localhost
No force synchronous mail updates
Local networks: 127.0.0.0/8

I have ticket tracking software that mails ticket to groups. Right now the software is on an exchange server. After moving it to a dedicated linux server (debian lenny) I cant get it to email any of the internal domain addresses. I have tried to setup sendmail to relay it to the exchange server. Logs indicate that it was sent by the ticket tracking software but the message never hits the mailbox. It also wont get to any other mail address. Is there a better way to do this? The crm software will utilize either a smtp server or any mail server on the localhost. The problem is that with the dedicated server on the same network as the exchange server, it fails to send the mail even if I assign an external smtp server. But if the dedicated server is on a different network then it works using any smtp server in its configuration. I need something that can "pass the email" to the exchange server. Or just be able to send the mail to internal email account and still be on the same network.

I have postfix sort of working correctly. postfix can send email to the internet but it doesn't want to send email to my local exchange server. What I need is for postfix to send emails directed to @xyz.com to my exchange server instead of itself.
My setup
mail.xyz.com - exchange 2003 server
www.xyz.com - centos 5.3 server with postfix
www.xyz.com can send emails to my hotmail.com account so that part works correctly. www.xyz.com can't send email to username@xyz.com. postfix seems to be delivering the email to itself and not the exchange server.
How can I tell postfix to send the @xyz.com emails to my exchange server?
Here is a sample of my /var/log/maillog
Jul 22 15:43:43 list postfix/smtpd[9802]: D63168604A3: client=localhost.localdomain[127.0.0.1]
Jul 22 15:43:53 list postfix/cleanup[9805]: D63168604A3: message-id=<20090722204343.D63168604A3@www.xyz.com>

I got a request today from someone on the software development team that reads as follows: Quote: According to RFC 4409 client mail submission to an email server is supposed to use port 587. Server to server SMTP relays are to use port 25. When I am not on site, I can't email via my work account via my iPhone or my residential internet because my ISP(s) filter port 25 to only allow traffic to and from their mail servers. They do however allow 587 anywhere per RFC 4409. Just to send this email I am having to relay off my own server in California. get the proper ports opened on the mail server? [URL] So my question now is I'm wondering if my Postfix server isn't properly configured? Right now it's listening on the following ports:

I have one server at home, connected through a router that gives me a static IP:192.168.1.2 - My PC192.168.1.3 - CentOS serverI enabled the port 80 into router forwarding system and I can connect properly to CentOS server, using the IP my internet provider gives me. My router automatically forwards a changed IP to my dyndns.com account so I can also access the server through a domain name (I pay to have it linked to one of my domains). My next step is to configure the mail server (dovecot) , so I can send emails from my local server(192.168.1.3).I was wondering if anyone has any tutorial links or tips to have the mail server configured through a home internet provider + home router.

The internal mail server is mail.example.com where there is no bob@example.com but there is a sam@example.com.

I have a Nagios box set up on the corporate LAN. I'm trying to get it to send emails to both internal Exchange addresses as well as doing a direct delivery to internet domains.
I have looked at a few logs and it appears that Postfix is not doing proper DNS lookups on the internal servers. It keeps trying to connect to the domain controllers. I have an MX record specified.

I have an issue in my organisation that a particular user X's mail not able to forward from my linux server MTA postfix to my second windows exchange (HUB)mail server. We use linux mail server as SMTP Gateway we have implemented fetchmail for doing this job. and its MTA is postfix OS is SUSE. Rest users mail are able to come in exchange HUB server via linux mail server. When I see that purticular user X mail in linux I am able see its spool file in /var/spool/mail and also via mail or mutt command. My question is why postix not able to forward that user X mail to our exchange HUB server.

The scenario: We have an external server that runs HTTP/DB servers for out shop system. Then, there's our local, in-house infrastructure that runs a.. yeah... Exchange 2010. The shop system on the external server needs to send mails to customers (order confirmations, invoices, etc.). seing as sending them directly through the local MTA (Postfix) would cause mail delivery problems because of reverse DNS issues, i've set the Postfix MTA to act as a satellite to our in-house Exchange Server, so the Exchange sends the mail instead, giving recipient mail servers a valid reverse DNS lookup.
Now, mails sent by the (proprietary, uneditable) shop system are relayed correctly and sent to the target e-mail address. My problem is: Mails not sent by the shop system, but by our own PHP scripts which run on that same external servers, are NOT relayed properly. So the Exchange is fine with the mails sent by the shop system, but not the mails sent by our scripts. This is what i get in the mail.log: The successfully relayed mail sent by the shop system:

I'm trying to set up my postfix server to relay mail (via a php cms) using Gmail's smtp on my account, but for some reason, Gmail returns an error code that StartTLS must be sent first, my postfix main.cnf file can be found at pastebin, because of this forum's text length I cannot paste my postfix main.cnf file as can be seen I have everything set and configured for Gmail, but postfix (for some unseen reason) can not send StartTLS. I'm trying to setup postfix (or exim, I don't mind which), so I can move away my last remaining PC from Windows.I've tinkered with Postfix for good part of a month and I can get it to accept emails using SMTP and post them to a virtual mailbox based on MySQL tables. And it rejects mail addressed to local email addresses that it can't find in the table.
First question (or problem.) I've set up Postfix to relay email it cannot deliver locally such as is the case when you send out an email. My remote host requires authentication. How can I set this up?
Second question: I want to force my clients to use either AUTH, TLS or SSL, and not allow anonymous connections (to prevent an open relay server.) How do I set that up without interfering with the smarthost setting? The smarthost login is not one of my clients, it's a pre-determined login and password that is solely used for the email relaying aspect.

I got a weird postfix setup question? This is a separate server to the one I posted about earlier today.
I need to setup a postfix server which will accept emails for local know address (full addresses) and deliver them straight to the users maildir.
Any unknown addresses (however for the same domain), needs to be relayed to another server.
This is a bit of a special setup as there is no fixed Internet connection to the server. So the plan is that local email get delivered straight away whilst emails to the same @domain, but that doesn't exist in the user tables get put in the hold queue and is later relayed to server number 2 when a connection is available.
I am using mysql to retrieve all my settings into postfix.

I would like to setup postfix to act as a relay for the outgoing mails of a couple of servers each serving it's own domain. The mails we are talking about are standard administrative emails like user registration, password reset request. The volume of those mails will naturally grow as the site grows. Which for me poses the problem that depending on the growth of the site you will sooner or later hit the quotas imposed by (my otherwise preferred) providers like GMail or smtp.com.
So what I need is a mail relay that will only accept mails from authenticated clients from hosts in its access list and relay their mail without restrictions. Is that possible with postfix? What has to be changed in the config and what are the pitfalls?

I am working happily with Fedora 8, evolution chatting happily to exchange 2003, calendar sync the works...impressed. This continued through Fedora 9 (though a little bumpy as all odd numbered Fedora releases are). On to Fedora 10, yes works a treat out of the box (DVD). A couple of updates to evolution later, through yumex (fedora updates), and evolution has stopped sending email to the exchange server. It's also touch and go whether I can read email using OWA.
On pressing 'Send/Receive' evolution pops the error,
Error while performing operation.
Exchange transport can only be used with Exchange mail source.
How could I back out these evolution updates?
