I'm hoping someone here can help, as I've been beating my head on the wall for a week now with little advancement. I've found a number of tutorials on setting this up, however none of them have gotten me 100% of the way there. Here's my situation: home-based Fedora server (Core 8), running sendmail 8.14.2-1. Connecting to hosting company's smtp server over port 587, to bypass Verizon's blocking of port 25.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have ticket tracking software that mails ticket to groups. Right now the software is on an exchange server. After moving it to a dedicated linux server (debian lenny) I cant get it to email any of the internal domain addresses. I have tried to setup sendmail to relay it to the exchange server. Logs indicate that it was sent by the ticket tracking software but the message never hits the mailbox. It also wont get to any other mail address. Is there a better way to do this? The crm software will utilize either a smtp server or any mail server on the localhost. The problem is that with the dedicated server on the same network as the exchange server, it fails to send the mail even if I assign an external smtp server. But if the dedicated server is on a different network then it works using any smtp server in its configuration. I need something that can "pass the email" to the exchange server. Or just be able to send the mail to internal email account and still be on the same network.

Configuration has gone well so far, except I cannot seem to get Outlook to authenticate with the SMTP server and I must readily admit to some large gaps in my knowledge. I have setup CentOS 5.2 with Nagios to monitor my network and have that configuration almost done. I have also setup Sendmail to forward all mail (really only Nagios notifications) out to my Exchange server using define('SMART_HOST', 'exchange.domain') in the sendmail configuration file and it seems to be working correctly.is there a way to configure Sendmail to forward all mail out through my Exchange server as it is now but send mail out to the internet itself if the exchange server is unavailable, somewhat like a failover configuration.

I want to have them enter a username and password in Outlook, Thunderbird, etc in their smtp server settings. I currently have this set up via an Exchange server, but I cannot get it to work with Sendmail. I know little about Sendmail, and have done all the config via Webmin, which has worked fine as far as relaying domains. But even though I have added the CentOS user account for the smtp relaying, the clients mail apps give an error saying relaying denied.

I got one last stop until I've fully configured my Sendmail server. I want the server to verify which address the sender is using when sending mail. Even though authenticated via SMTP AUTH or mailing from an IP listed as RELAY in access.db, the user should not be able to use whichever address he likes.
Ideally, I would like Sendmail to use a file that looks something like this: Username sername@Server.org
where, if logged in with Username, the only accepted sender address is Username@Server.org. As of now, Sendmail just verifies that the sender domain exists and then relays which I don't like. This also applies to a lot of other servers as well... for example in the cases where ISPs have blocked outgoing port 25 and let all their users use their SMTP server. I assume, if they don't use SMTP AUTH which is not the case where I am, that they have their entire IP range listed as RELAY and therefore, using my ISPs SMTP when in their net, I can send mail as whomever I like as long as the sender domain exists.
I've had a look at filters but haven't found any suitable and I assume that this might be realised through a Ruleset or something. What do you think? Have I missed something making this a really stupid suggestion or am I on to something? It would make my day
In my network I only have one machine that is configured to send email outside the network. How do I instruct my local copy of sendmail to use that server as a relay?

The e-mail address that is used in the extension is dynamic(changes for every user, since each user sets its own pinkode). And the script sets the domain part off the email to the last part off the IP of the ubuntuserver. For example: wikipost+2.12345@62.85. I cant send an email to half of an IP, can I? View 1 Replies View RelatedThe scenario: We have an external server that runs HTTP/DB servers for out shop system. Then, there's our local, in-house infrastructure that runs a.. yeah... Exchange 2010. The shop system on the external server needs to send mails to customers (order confirmations, invoices, etc.). seing as sending them directly through the local MTA (Postfix) would cause mail delivery problems because of reverse DNS issues, i've set the Postfix MTA to act as a satellite to our in-house Exchange Server, so the Exchange sends the mail instead, giving recipient mail servers a valid reverse DNS lookup.
Now, mails sent by the (proprietary, uneditable) shop system are relayed correctly and sent to the target e-mail address. My problem is: Mails not sent by the shop system, but by our own PHP scripts which run on that same external servers, are NOT relayed properly. I have a squid server currently running with basic authentication. This is a must because we constantly have different people using different machines but the rules must be set per user, not per machine.
We also have a lot of users coming and going. So every time a new user comes to the office I have to manually create a user for him so he can authenticate.
Anyway.. We do not have any windows servers so no Active Directory. But I need some solution to pass the windows login to Squid.
First question: It seems I am using NTLM currently for samba as the person can map their home directories on their windows box withuot authenticating. Why can I not use it for squid?
Second question: Can I make my Centos server into an AD server?
I am trying to setup sendmail on a fc10 box with dovecot running imap. I have everything configured and running on the server. For example, when I run "echo 'test' | mail -s test user@mydomain.com" or even to someuser@gmail.com, the mail goes through just fine. I can then reply from both of those accounts back to the server, no problem.
Relaying denied Cannot send mail. The SMTP server does not recognize any of the authentication methods supported by Entourage. Try changing the SMTP authentication options in Account settings or contact your network administrator.
