Software :: Compiled HandBrake From Source - GUI Malfunction
Oct 6, 2010
I've compiled HandBrake 0.9.4 from source as well as installed it with success(--enable-Gtk). However, many buttons (among them the 'Start' and the 'Pause' ones) do not seem to work at all-they are colored grey and I cannot click on them.Probably,it's a gui malfunction.
I have installed two softwares manually, from the source code downloaded from their official websites: Stellarium, and the Linux Kernel. The version of these is not the same as the one found in the official repos. My question is: does aptitude have knowledge of the existance of these softwares? Can it do any damage to them, in case, for example, I run automatic aptitude tasks, such as autoclean and dist-upgrade?
I am trying out Zenwalk Linux and so far love it. I have had to compile a couple of bits of software from source and don't know how I would update them when a new version comes out.The options are:1. Compile the new version and hope it overwrites the old one2.Uninstall the old version and compile the new.Option 2 feels safer but how do I uninstall a bit of software installed by compiling?
I just have a short simple question. I download yukon a opengl Video capture software and tried to install it and I got it installed but I can't get it to function right. So figured I would uninstall it and ran "make uninstall" in the source and it gave me an error that is has nothing to do.
So this is my questions if I did
Code: $whereis yukon #rm -rf /etc/yukon /usr/bin/yukon (and the rest of the direcories listed) Would that work fine? for removing it from my system.
I have recently installed a dev branch of Postfix on my box (jaunty), in order to access some new features. This requires that I do not use any of the postfix-related packages in the repos, I have to set this all up manually.
What is the best method for me to manage this system moving forward? Do I need to prevent the repo's postfix package (or anything depending on it, like postfix-mysql, postfix-dovecot etc.) from ever being installed accidentally? Is there anything else I need to worry about? How do you folks generally manage having compiled, customized versions of software that exists in the repos on your systems?
I'm a compiling noob, but one who can follow well-written directions. I was led to believe that I needed to compile an updated version of freetype to satisfy some build dependencies in Wine, which I also needed to compile to be able to use a custom patch. So now my fonts look awful. I read the directions that came with the freetype source code, and one thing I didn't configure properly was the auto-hinter, which I believe to be the problem (although that's just an educated guess), since the documentation lacked the necessary docs.
how do I go back to stonking great fonts? I'd rather keep the new version of freetype, if someone could tell me how to properly configure it to display fonts correctly.
After I finished the upgrade, everything is running super slow (I'm actually writing this on my Vista). One thing that I did different during the installation process was keeping my grub's menu.lst file intact so it's the same as it was before (still showing 9.04 on the title). Should I completely reformat my ubuntu partition and install 9.10 from scratch??? (I have a feeling I do)
Sometimes when I hotplug a SATA device to/from say /dev/sdb, it malfunctions/times out, and cannot be detected. Then when I plug in another SATA device, it gets detected as /dev/sdc even though /dev/sdb is no longer there. How can I reclaim /dev/sdb in this case?
Today I experienced an weird functioning of rpm on ubuntu. In general, to install any software on ubuntu we use "apt-get" command, but, the problem with it is that it will install the latest version of that software present in the repository. For installing the older versions of the particular software, "apt-get" is not useful. Today I wanted to install the java 1.4 version on my box. I downloaded the rpm.bin file from the oracle Sun site. let us assume that the name of the downloaded file is java1.4.rpm.bin. To convert the file into an rpm format I gave the following command ./java1.4.rpm.bin. This command showed a list of terms and conditions and after accepting, it generated the rpm file java1.4.rpm.
Then I gave the command rpm -ivh java1.4.rpm. After executing this command, I expected java to be installed but it gave me an error like "rpm: please use alien to install rpm packages on Debian, if you are really sure use --force-debian switch. See README.Debian for more details." When I do the following steps same-to-same on redhat and when I gave the command ./java1.4.rpm.bin, java got installed automatically and environmental variable was created. I do not know why ubuntu is not supporting the rpm packages. If we want to use "apt-get" then we have to see the alternative way of installing the older versions of any software.
I was looking to get glx to work with direct rendering. So i installed the nvidia drivers from the openSuSe Sight. I installed because /var/log/Xorg.O.log Said that the Nvidia card was not loaded. Long story short looks like the card is loaded but X windows... I guess GLX is not running and neither is Opengl. I still have output to the monitor. here is
I installed Kubuntu 9.04 recently which I thought was jaunty, but my apt sources list had Karmic Koala as the repos. Updater told me 9.1 was available so I used updater to upgrade my system. Normally I'd use apt-get dist-upgrade. Since then, apt-get / amarok and updater won't access the all the repos. Apt-get stalls at ip 32.1.3.136.
Here is my sources list. deb http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic main restricted deb-src http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic main restricted deb http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic-updates main restricted deb-src http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic-updates main restricted deb http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic universe deb-src http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic universe deb http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic-updates universe deb-src http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic-updates universe deb http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic multiverse deb-src http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic multiverse deb http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic-updates multiverse deb-src http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic-updates multiverse deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu karmic partner deb-src http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu karmic partner deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu karmic-security main restricted deb-src http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu karmic-security main restricted deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu karmic-security universe deb-src http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu karmic-security universe deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu karmic-security multiverse deb-src http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu karmic-security multiverse deb http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty-backports main restricted universe multiverse deb-src http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty-backports main restricted universe multiverse
Interestingly, I thought I had installed the Medibuntu repos as well?
I would like to ask something. Today my network Internet access suddenly slowed down, after inspecting the problem the hard way we disconnected one of our servers(ip=190, debian squeeze) from network and the network was alright again. When we plugged it back in, following symptoms were observed: computer 190 pinged gateway app. each 6th time. gateway(debian lenny) pinged computer 190 app each 6th time whole network Internet access was slowed down, local network functioned just fine
While pinging themselves, i ran iptraf on icmp packets on gateway and I saw what i thought was ping attack, lots of echo request coming from external address to computer 190. Blocking that address in iptables didn't help but restarting the gateway did, network Internet conenction is at full speed and gateway and computer 190 ping just fine.
My question is, what steps should I undertake in similar case (it's second time in 2 months) - to debug similar problems. Is it even possible for ping DOS to this kind of damage?
I am running Ubuntu on an Acer 5742 laptop and running XP on Oracle Virtual box and plugged in externally (keyboard, mouse etc...) I have lost ability on both the laptop numeric keyboard (only the numeric keys) and the external keyboard when plugged in. This happened while I was working in Virtual box and running Windows XP.
When the laptop is on its own the numeric keyboard doesn't work (only numeric keys) either. I have toyed with the number lock and I have un-installed and re-installed both"keyboard input methods" and "input method switcher" within Ubuntu software centre to with no change. Not that I bought the damn computer for the numeric keyboard but it should work.
My hard drive's file system has become totally mucked up. I had a few partitions on it, 0 is XP, 1 is vista, 2 is Debian, and 3 is the data. I know that it's this hard drive because when I disconnect it, any liveCD runs ok. After failing to boot puppy linux (liveCD), xp (bootmgr not found), debian (ended in kernal panic), I tried GPARTED. The xp and vista partitions are listed as existing, but they show a problem flag, gparted says they are corrupt, and they are not listed as having a start, end, or any data. However, the main data partition does list a start, end, size, and data space used.
I need to either format those or get into something that will let me access the data partition. Gparted either hangs on boot or doesn't recognise the mouse so I can't reformat the bad partitions. Are there any programs that will ignore the bad partitions and let me access the good ones? Any time I go into a linux distro it either ends up in kernel panic or the mouse doesn't respond. It's hard to explain. With GPARTED, sometimes it hangs at the third line, sometimes it fails at "mounting hard drives", and sometimes it makes it to the GUI but I can't use the mouse. Debian alternates between these as well.
If I keep trying it looks like I can boot, and it will recognise the partitions, but I can't use the mouse. I'm kind of familar with bash, is there a way to start up the terminal with no gui? If I could get a terminal up with a hotkey in the GUI or just start up from a terminal (no gui), I could type mv dev/sda3/ or whatnot. If I could get into a terminal of gparted I could format the bad parts of the drive to see if that would work. Otherwise it looks like I'm going to have to zero out the drive with the WD diag tool. The data isn't life or death, but it would save me some time.
i have an acer aspire one with a 250 gb hdd the hdd is currently partitioned into two parts part 1 - 85 or so gb, has windows installed part 2 - the rest which is currently unallocated. i am trying to install ubuntu so that each has its own section and will dual boot once in the ubuntu installation window, how do i set up the partition to achieve this? i am trying to install ubuntu 10.10 netbook
I am using Mepis 8 on my PC and also have a laptop with windows XP installed. I had the laptop connected to the printer (HP Deskjet 930c) on my PC through the Internet Printer Protocol but it suddenly refused to work. I accessed localhost:631 through my broswer on my PC and there was a error message "permission denied on /dev/lp0". Now my printer refuses to work on my PC also. I have tried deleting the printer and rebooting and reinstalling it but the KDE print manager lets me get right to the final stage before informing me it cannot create the printer. All I was trying to find the URL to install on my laptop.
HandBrake is an audio/video transcoder (converter) for win, mac and Linux. Refer here for more info on HandBrake: [URL] Where you can find HandBrake with official GTK GUI, Here is where you can find itI for fedora 10: x86 (32 Bit): [URL] x86_64 (64Bit): [URL] In case anyone is wondering how I found it, I was trying out mythdora 10.21.
read about handbrake the other day and thought I'd give it a try, so downloaded the fedora 12 rpm from here [URL] and tried to install with package installer but get the warning message
Quote:
The name org.freedesktop.PackageKit was not provided by any .service files
If there's no fix can I just cp the two files (bin [executable] and share) to /usr ?
How do I go about ripping the whole DVD? All Handbrake does is rip the first episode? Google gives instructions for Apple and Windows and they don't cover doing it in Linux. They make it sound like it's automatic. I hasn't been for me so far. Well at least until this DVD issue that follows. Since installing Handbrake and routine openSUSE 11.3 64 updates my DVDs are not mounted and the notifier doesn't pop up. Navigating to /media shows no DVD mounted. I realize this could be a hardware failing issue but the DVD spins up and flashes like it's scanning the DVD. A reboot to reset everything didn't solve this issue. If I stick a USB thumb drive in it's mounted and the notifier pops up.
I have Handbrake on my computer and as I don't use it, I want to know how to uninstall it. GUI terms, that would be great, as I don't know how to use command line (I find it confusing and complicated).
I have a few live concerts in AVI format I wanted to convert to mp4 since that is the only video format the Google CR-48 currently sort-of supports. I can successfully convert a series of AVI TV shows, including a Pink Floyd concert in AVI. But if I turn around and try to convert a Pearl Jam convert in AVI format, it instantly says RIP DONE! with a 1.5kb file from the convert in the destination folder.
I have tried to find at tutorial on how to install Handbrake on Unbutu 10.04 command lin server, but cant find one?I have found the documentation on how to use it using commandlind here: [URL] how to install it.
I was trying to install the HandBrake slackbuild. It gave me an error saying it needed webkit, so I check for it in slackbuilds.org, where I found it. Listing said it required two things: libsoup and icu4c. So I downloaded the slackbuilds for those two and they installed fine, then started the install for webkit.
It did its build thing for about ten minutes, then it errors out, but the error message is pretty convoluted so I'm not sure what its telling me. Here's the last few lines from the terminal:
[Code]...
Anyone know what went wrong, and what I need to do to fix this?
Has successfully compiled Handbrake from source and got it to run? I've been trying to get this working for a while now, and everything I find on the interwebs is for Debian 7.6, and it seems as though things have changed a bit and those suggestions don't work.
I get this error when I try to configure it
Code: Select all : ../libhb/common.c:16:18: fatal error: x264.h: No such file or directory : compilation terminated. : make: *** [libhb/common.o] Error 1
I'm using openSUSE 11.3 with Gnome.I have installed Handbrake 0.9.4-1 from packman. After I installed it, I can choose the source, but Start, Pause and Add to Queue button are all grayed out.
It says that i can rip and encode encrypted DVDs in HandBrake but when i insert my DVDs it says that it doesn't support encrypted DVDs. Is there any kind of addon or plugin i need?
Handbrake simply will not encode. I've used it for a while now on 32 bit Ubuntu 9.10 and on 64 bit Windows 7 but since I've upgraded to 10.04 64 bit I can add a video as source and the encode button is grayed out. I cannot start encoding. The version of Handbrake I am using is 0.9.4.Does anyone have any idea how to remedy this issue? I am thinking of trying version 0.9.3 again.
