Software :: Can Print Documents Only With Certain Fonts

Jul 11, 2010

I am running Linux Mint and have installed drivers for Xerox 3100MFP printer. I can print a test page fine, and also have no problems printing documents that are, for example written with Times new roman. However, when I try printing a document that has one of the fonts that I regulary use, I get an error message (it says something like that an error has occurred processing the document). The issue persists, if I convert the document into Pdf.

Ubuntu :: Can Print Test Page But Not Documents?

May 6, 2010

I know my driver works and that cups is up and running, because I can print off test pages to my heart's content, but I can't get any actual documents printed. I'm connected over the network at work to a Japanese NEC MultiWriter 3650n (it seems to be Japanese-only---I could find on drivers was in Japanese). It shows up in System=>Administration=>Printing. I set it as the default printer, and, as I said, it prints off test pages without a hitch. But whenever I open, say, a PDF and try to print it, the document appears to get sent, but never actually prints, and never shows up in the print queue (while the completed test pages do).

Ubuntu :: Gimp Print - Only Getting Blank Documents?

Sep 24, 2010

Gimp is failing to print documents correctly. It will spit out a page, whether it be PDF or an actual piece of paper, but the result is just a blank white document. I've tried printing through my HP printer, Cups PDF printer, and the default Print to File. I'm able to print documents through other applications on my system just fine.

I've done a fresh install of Ubuntu, but I'm still having the problem. I'm not sure if there are certain packages I need for Gimp to print. There are so many different PDF, PostScript, GhostScript, Cups, Foomatic, HP, etc. files in Synaptic that it's hard to tell what is important and what isn't. I'm using GIMP 2.7.2 on Ubuntu 10.10.

Ubuntu :: Over 1500 Fonts - Move Them To My /usr/share/fonts Folder

Jul 3, 2011

I have a folder with over 1500 fonts, I would like to move them to my /usr/share/fonts folder so that they can be used. Some are from Windows, some are just random extras. I've installed the msttcorefonts, but there are quite a few missing that make some wen pages look different.

How can I go about putting the fonts from my folder, into the appropriate /usr/share/fonts folder to be used? And how can I move them all? I can't drag and drop them, and mv FONT_NAME /usr/share/fonts for all of them will take a month or two. Is there a way to elevate my self to be able to just drag and drop them all? And which folder would they need to go into for them to be used in Chrome and Firefox?

OpenSUSE :: 3.2 Fonts Get Loaded To /usr/local/share/fonts?

Feb 23, 2010

I have just installed openSUSE 11.2 X86_64 on my laptop, I then used KDE to install lots of type 1 fonts for my printer. These get loaded to /usr/local/share/fonts/...These installed fonts are visible to KDE (KWRITE) and GIMP so I assume that the installation was O.K. When I start openOFFICE writer I do not see these fonts. The font selection appears to be the fonts located under /usr/share/fonts. I have not tried other ooo3 components. I assume that they are not going to see the fonts either.

I have searched google and it appears that /usr/local/share/fonts is the correct location for non-packaged fonts. Has anybody any idea what is wrong? I think I could move all the fonts to /usr/share/fonts and ooo3 would work but this seems to break the installation directory structure. I have considered symlinks but I don't like the idea of defining a font twice to Linux and creating the syslinks is more work than reinstalling the fonts if they are lost

Software :: CUPS - Print Jobs Shows Completed, But Page Doesn't Print?

The printer is a Canon MP600 (using the canonmp600en.ppd file to configure it). Here's the output of my conf file.

Code:

Ubuntu :: Printing Corrupted - Get Substituted / Print A Blank Space / Print A Box

Mar 23, 2011

Interesting problem: For the first time with Xubuntu 10.10 64bit, I am finding certain applications print corrupt. A varying amount of letters / numbers either get substituted/print a blank space/ print a box etc etc. This corruption seems to happen from a Pdf ( evince ) or Spreadheet ( Gnumeric ) Opening the same Pdf on another machine (ubuntu 10.10 32bit) prints perfectly. Opening the same .xls file on the original computer but using OOo Calc prints perfectly.

I guess I have ruled out any problems with the printer itself or the network JetDirect box. I have re-installed CUPS and evince and upgraded to the latest version of HPLIP but the problem appears unchanged.

Software :: Firefox, Okular Don't Put Print Job On The Print Queue (silently)?

Feb 16, 2011

I'm running Kubuntu 10.10 with a Laserjet 5M printer. When I attempt to print a job from Firefox or from Okular, the job never gets onto the print queue. However, I can print test pages on the printer and also print from OpenOffice, so this seems to be app-dependent. I know the jobs aren't being queued because the job number doesn't increase (as shown by the jobs for the test pages). Both Firefox and Ocular give every indication that the print job has been processed correctly.

Our one remaining problem seems to be printing. She has an HP OfficeJet 6500 USB printer. We have the computer conntected. Strangely, when I boot from the CD the printer shows up as installed even though I did nothing to install it. After having submitted a print job it shows the printer status as "idle" and the print queue is empty. I tried deleting that printer and re-installing. The installation went as one would expect. However the results are the same. I'm beginning to think that somehow the problem is related to the fact that we are operating from the live CD. getting this thing to print from the live CD.

Ubuntu :: Getting To Win 7 My Documents Files

Jan 30, 2010

So my windows 7 partition got all messed up. Fortunately I have a working Ubuntu partition so I mounted the windows partition in Ubuntu and went in to pull my files over to linux so I could wipe the windows partition and reinstall windows 7. Everything is going great until I try to get into my documents.

I go into documents and settings so I can get at said files and it's empty. I figure it's a security issue so I try to alter the security settings and of course it doesn't let me. At this point I realize "crap my windows user account has a password on it".

So to the point at hand, is there any way to mount the windows partition and get around the windows login so I can get at the secured files (and copy them to the ubuntu partition)?

Fedora :: LaTeX Documents Compiled - Are Different To Those On Mac ?

Jun 18, 2010

Today I discovered a strange issue regarding LaTeX. I am currently working on my thesis and sometimes edit it on my laptop with F13 x86_64, and others with my office's Mac (Leopard). Fedora has TexLive installed (default Latex distribution) and I believe the Mac has its default distribution as well.

The problem is that the Mac seems to compile the document better (Latex + Bibtex + Latex + dvips + ps2pdf): page distribution looks better for one thing, space is better used. I notice that images (EPS) are rendered with an extra blank space on the bottom when compiling in Linux (which might be responsible for the page's arrangement).

Is there something I can do to fix this? Some option that perhaps the Mac has as a default but must be specified in Linux?
