Software :: DVD Rip Fails To Merge Audio And Video

Aug 2, 2010

I am attempting to rip a dvd with dvd::rip. All goes well till it finishes ripping. It fails to merge the audio and video into one file. I am getting an audio ogm file and a video ogm file for the movie. I am currently running 10.04 kubuntu. Here is the log for the rip: (I apologize for the length but I did not know what is useful and what is not.)

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Ffmpeg Audio Merge With Video Merge

Feb 22, 2011

I am using ffmpeg for merge wav files to a mov video. My doing is below

1. First extract audio (wav file) from video
2. Create wav file from mp3 track 1
3. Create wav file from mp3 track 2
4 Merge extract audio from video with track 1 and track2.
Now finally create a new video with original video's video stream and merged audio stream.

Process is working. However final video is 3-4 times greater than original one. I want that final video should be near about size of original video. As I understand, all three wav files (created from ) make video larger.

Example commands i using is as below:

Software :: Can't Merge A Subtitle With Video With Handbrake

Jul 26, 2011

I'm using Handbrake 0.9.5 for encoding and I'd like to add a "hard-subtitle" to a video : the subtitle has to be a part of the video. I've seen on makeuseof.com that we could hard-sub a video thanks to the "Forced only" option. On Ubuntu 10.04 amd64, I don't have any checkbox for this option while importing SRT file. I've got the checkbox for "subtitles" I add by clicking on the "+ Subtitle" button, but it seems to be useless (I had a video_name.srt next to my video_name.m4v video file to re-encode). Is Handbrake now supporting only soft subbing ?

General :: Combine / Merge Left And Right Video Files?

Jan 11, 2011

How can I join the two parts of a stereoscopic movie to get a side-by-side one?

I can expand the left file, that way all I'll need is to paste the second one on top of it, with something like this:

mencoder left-file.mkv -o side-by-side.avi -oac copy -ovc lavc -of avi -vf scale=1280:720,expand=-1280:0:0:0 -sws 3 -lavcopts vbitrate=16000

Any idea which tool should I use on a Linux system?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Separate The Audio And Video Streams, Speed Up The Video?

Apr 20, 2011

I have a video file in which the audio runs faster than the video, so they quickly go out of sync. The way to fix it would be to separate the audio and video streams, speed up the video (the audio is FINE, it's the video that's wrong), and then recombining them. What is the easiest way for doing that?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Flv Video + Audio To Ogg Audio Only?

Dec 22, 2010

Is there an application that anyone knows about that I can use to convert either an .flv or .ogg file that contains both audio and video to just an audio .ogg file (preferably vorbis+theora) without audacity? I'm fairly certain audacity could accomplish this but it seems like overkill for what I'm trying to do and the computer I'm trying to use does not run it so well.

::EDIT:: I should also mention that I've tried looking on google. I did find downloadhelper extension for firefox which uses ffmpeg to convert the files but I don't see any obvious way to strip the video.

Software :: Setting Up A Church Server - What Software Is Best For Recording The Audio Or Audio-video Files

Jun 12, 2010

Setting up a linux based church server to be placed with a collocation host.

-- Server will be used for:
--- providing .pdf files
--- live streaming of church services (audio for now audio video soon)
--- providing audio files
--- providing audio-video files
--- our internet web site

A. Is there a preferred Linux distribution that will make this easier?

B. What is the best format for audio and video files that will be viewed variously on Linux, Mac, and Microsoft operating systems? Files will need to be played on older versions of operating systems and may need a free or very low cost software to play (e.g. play on Win2k)

C. What software is best for recording the audio or audio-video files? Some additional funding might be justified for this software, particularly if it can also support live streaming.

D. What software is best for live streaming both on the file creation and the listening-viewing sides of the process?

Ideally we would like to have a single software suite to live stream, and make downloadable audio or audio-video files for later download, and not require those listening and viewing to have to install additional software. Keeping file sizes small is also desirable because some of our users will probably only have dial-up internet.

OpenSUSE :: K3B Audio CD Burn Fails

Jan 7, 2009

I recently installed OpenSuse 11.1 (i586) on a new laptop (HP 6710b) all has been going well, until I tried to burn audio CDs with K3B using .wav files in a directory in the format 01.wav 02.wav 03.wav etc. To burn the audio CDs I have been running K3B as root to avoid any potential permission issues. I now have a stack of cd 'coasters' with only one lucky success using the command line, which when the exact command was repeated failed again. I have successfully burnt 2 data DVDs using K3B, one as root the second as user, both without problem - so maybe it is not a permissions problem?

I am using K3b 1.0.5 in KDE 4.1.3. (it runs under KDE3) I have not been able to run k3bsetup it is not part of the installation. However permissions appear correctly set-up I also added the appropriate users to the group disk.

/dev/cdrom lrw-rw----root disk (just points to /dev/sr0)
/dev/sr0 -rw-rw---- root disk
/usr/bin/cdrecord lrwxr-xr-x root root (just points to /usr/bin/wodim)
/usr/bin/wodim-rwxr-xr-xroot root

K3b uses the executables in /usr/bin/x11/ which are just the same. I have not put suid on anything. I tried running cdrecord as a user, however the burn failed.I checked the .wav files and they play fine in kaffeine. I am using the same brand of blank CDs as the DVDs.I have not had the occasion to try a data CD I've run out of blank disks for the moment.

K3b detects my DVD/CD burner as:

The system device is /dev/sr0
interfaceGeneric SCSI
Vendor HL-DT-ST
DescriptionDVDRAM GSA-T40L
FirmwareKC07

I tried burning audio CDs in both TAO and DAO mode, neither with success.

Here is an example shortened K3b output:

scsidev: '/dev/sr0'
devname: '/dev/sr0'
scsibus: -2 target: -2 lun: -2

Debian :: Pulse Audio Fails After Bluetooth Installation

Apr 24, 2016

I get an error saying:

Code: Select allConnection to Pulse Audio failed.

In this case this is likely because Pulse_Server in the environment/X11 Root Window Properties or default-server in client.conf is misconfigured. This situation can also arise when Pulse Audio crashed and left stale details in the Root X11 window. If this is the case then Pulse Audio should autospawn again, or if this not cofigured you should run start-pulseaudio-x11 manually.

I tried reinstalling pavucontrol and pulse audio, but I still get the error. I tried removing bluetooth as well and that doesn't fix the issue.

Ubuntu :: How To Set Audio & Video

Jul 19, 2010

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525, X-UB 8.04. Audio: I want to be able to turn the volume up or down, I cannot find any control that does this. Video brightness: this has 2 settings in BIOS, (a) on battery (b) on
AC power. From time to time something (I have no idea what) turns the (b) setting down from 8 to 2 and the screen becomes very murky. The only way I know to fix this is to shut down & restart & go into the BIOS & turn it back up. Is there a way to reset (b) without having to shut down & restart? Is there a way to discover what bit of S-ware is the culprit?

Ubuntu Installation :: 10.04 Video Fails On Two P III's

May 1, 2010

I installed 10.04 on two P-III's. Both experience the same video issue. I click on the maximize or minimize window buttons, and the video goes too dark to see. I can just barely make out what's on the screen. depending on where I move the cursor, it gets a little lighter or darker. These are both fresh installs without errors (with Visual Effects set to default of NONE). Machine specs Dell Dimension 4100 (1ghz/512m/40+80g) and Dell l933r (933mhz/512m/30+80g), uncertain about graphics cards but they're old and probably in the range of 32m or so of graphics ram. Both machines ran various Ubuntu releases from 6.06 to 9.04 without problems. 1. Any known fix to this problem? 2. Has anyone else tried 10.04 on P-III's 3. Should I just concede that I should run older Ubuntu releases on these boxes?

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: No Audio With Video?

Aug 5, 2010

after installing opensuse 11.3 i am finding that i cannot recieve any audio with video with any application.

i can hear certain types of audio, it seems any audio that is not attached to video. i can hear the welcome chime through my speakers after i log in to opensuse and i can also listen to .mp3 files played with amarok. i can watch videos with multiple players, videos videos etc., but there is no audio happening with the video.

i am thinking now this may actually be a hardware problem, since it seems to persist with different software, and only with audio attached to video. i'm thinking maybe there is a problem with my graphics card and its driver (or a lackthereof), although i'm unsure of why i can still watch video. i don't receive any error messages or anything, nor have i attempted to manually install any drivers for my existing hardware. i tried cranking every volume control i could find, including the system volume, but still no volume with video (its weird, its like i can hear it a tiny bit when i crank it, perhaps this is just the internal system beep speaker trying to fill in for the gfx card?).

the card i'm currently using is an nvidia card and although its not exactly old, i have read about some problems with nvidia being reluctant to produce drivers for linux in the past. after some brief googling of nvidia and linux, i was surprised to see that nvidia has an entire portion of their site devoted to unix/linux and open source drivers (perhaps they're doing better now).

is there any way that i can troubleshoot this problem, or do you think the solution is simply purchasing another graphics card from a vendor that has a good reputation for linux support?

Ubuntu :: How Do You Convert Video To Audio

Jan 27, 2011

when i had windows xp i used to convert almost any videos video into audio (the whole video into audio) by going to [url], downloading vdownloader and just inserting the url in the box provided; waiting for a couple of minutes and having an mp3 format file at the location that i want it to be in the desktop. when i searched for something similar for linux, because vdownloader was an .exe file and obviously wasn't going to work on ubuntu.

i found that i could get a video downloaded from videos but not an audio - i wait for the video to finish buffering; click on places; computer; file system; tmp; then rename the video folder and copy/relocate it to where ever on the desktop. ending with this video format "flash video (video/x-flv)". my question is: is there a linux program where i get to convert the entire video format to an audio format, possibly mp3?
