How do I change this to full duplex on bonded NICs? its all GigE NICs and Switch.
For some reason my network card started going 10Mb/s half duplex instead of 1000Mb/s full duplex. System is connected to 8x1Gb HP switch.Other devices connect fine through the switch and get full 1Gb network.I have Centos 5 with all updates. Driver comes from elrepo and as well is updated.

I am running a mail server and my POP3 clients have started complaining of slow speeds, about 10 days back. This prompted me to take remedial action on many fronts, finally I decided to look at the link itself.Attempts to force the NIC into full duplex mode using ethtool have failed. The command runs and throws me back to the prompt, but the NIC remains in half duplex mode.
Command that I have tried: ethtool -s eth1 speed 100 duplex full autoneg on modprobe -l r816*:

I have a modem that is only compatible with NIC's using 10Mbit Full Duplex. If I have a NIC configured to use 100Mbit Full Duplex, the modem loses connection with the computer frequently.

Using ethtool I can set LAN speed and duplex setting.I have Windows PC1 configured at 100MBPS Full Duplex. I have a linux PC configured in auto-negotiation. Windows PC1 can ping linux PC2 using cross over ethernet cable but not using straight cable. Also if I set linux PC2 in 100MBPS Full Duplex mode and Windows PC1 in 100MBPS Full Duplex mode ping is not successful eiether using straight or cross over cable. Is the second PC need to be in auto negotiation mode?

When I run: "ethtool -s eth1 speed 100 duplex full autoneg off" manually, it works fine. However when I add it to the intefaces file it does not after several different configuration attempts:

it seems my current configuration wont allow both eth0 and eth1 to be active at the same time. I would like them to be active-active if possible (if one goes down the other will service all traffice and vise versa).
I have Gateway P-7807u laptop with Ubuntu 9.10 installed, it has HDMI output and I use it to connect to my TV-set. The problem is - not working sound via HDMI, in sound preferences I've chosen duplex digital output, but no success, but picture works well.

/sbin/ethtool -s eth0 duplex full autoneg off
But this is only a temporary change.
What it says on the tin really. Whenever i set my sound preferences to 5.1 analog surround i get a sort of high-pitched whine/buzz coming through the speakers along with the regular sound, however if i switch to stereo duplex, it vanishes.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy desktop has been shifted about half way to the right and a "black hole" has been left. I'm not sure how else to describe this, so I will include a picture to try to make things clearer:
I have no idea how I have done this. The Android SDK Emulator is the only thing I have downloaded and played with recently. I've checked monitor settings, changed the background image, adjusted the number of desktops (all desktops are affected), logged out & back in and rebooted. I'm not sure where else to look. Googling hasn't given me any more clues so far.
Everything else is working fine. Windows will open up normally and cover up the "black hole". Although they do leave an after-image, particularly when you move them around - like a 70s video clip!
I bought a new issue of Linux Format magazine and saw it had a bootable disk with Fedora installer/live DVD on it which I was eager to try out "The worlds most advanced Linux distro" I put the DVD in my computer and rebooted it. I selected 'install or upgrade'. It started to load (blasting white text at me). I skipped the media test but then the screen was black and reacted to no mouse moving or keyboard pressing. Not even the OFF button, so I pressed RESET and selected 'install with basic video driver' this time it worked. It didn't fill my whole screen like many 'basic video drivers' but they don't cut off much so I was willing to forgive Fedora using one it was proberly only for the install anyway I could download a new one after. I have a Radeon HD 4200 (extreamly crap) intergrated into the north bridge. I can't afford an expensive graphics card. I build it myself so I can tell you what parts it's got if needed. Anyway I progressed through the setup without problems until I got to the partitionor which defaulted to 'Replace existing Linux system' this would delete Ubuntu an maybe Windows 7. I changed it to custom layout or something like that. It started a partitioner and I remembered I wanted to give ubuntu 30GB more room so I resized it. I created a new 50 GB logical partition and select it as the '/' partition, plenty more space for future Linux distributions. Here's the real problem. Soon after I hit install it said some repositorys require a network connection. It had only one option 'eth0' my motherboard has built in Ethernet but I connect to the net with a wifi card I do not have a cable long enough to reach this computer on the other side of the room. So how was I suppost to continue the setup? I pressed okay hoping it would give up and let me continue the setup but it didn't it said they was an error connecting to the Internet therefore setup could not continue. With only one option: 'Exit Installer'. GRRRR. Interestingly enough after I clicked it the disk drive's light kept flashing but the screen went black forcing me to reboot. Can anyone help me so I can install "The worlds most advanced Linux distribution"*

Having multiple users with different amounts of data from different scientific data source I set up an lvm on top of the RAID

Here is the problem: The volume Genomes (or /genomes) is half full
sudo df -ah
/dev/mapper/home--data-Genomes
1,9T 850G 920G 49% /genomes
but the system states it as full whenever I try to add more data (tried cp and rsync). There is no quota set to the volume (I have quotas in place for users home folders. These are only for max amount of disk space, not max file number, and I am still able to move/add files elsewhere so there seems to be no interference).
how to get xsane to scan a document and have it display as a full 8.5x11 sized document instead of something half that size? I've been trying and trying and can't seem to figure it out.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from 9.04 to 10.04 and so far I have those problems:
1. Before, everything in my system was in English. Now, half is in English, half in another language (PCManFM, some menus etc). I tried setting up Language Support but it changes nothing.
2. Cursor themes work only when hovering the mouse over "X" buttons in the right top corner of the window. As soon as I move the mouse somewhere else, it goes back to default cursor theme, even though I tried selecting 5 different themes - same result.
4. Hibernation don't work anymore. s2disk saves image to disk and then it resumes it but computer stops on text message along the lines of "Resume completed successfully".
5. Changing volume with keyboard shotcuts no longer works.
6. Smplayer does not display picture anymore when playing movies. The view is just empty. I can only hear the soundtrack. It is using XV filter.
7. PCmanFM that used to worked flawlessly, now after going into 1 or 2 subdirectories stops reacting to clicks on file/folder list. Need to open new instance to be able to do anything and this again would become unusable after visiting 1-2 folders.
I'm not sure if this is the right place for this. I'm not sure which veraion of linux I have but it was the latest veraon bfor the recent update. I accidentally hit alt ctrl f11 and my comp went inyo the grub menu. I've tried startx and it does nothing. About half the commands I enter do nothing and the other half r not found or are incorrect. The only vommand thw actualley work is reboot. I searched for this and read a grub guide but it did no good.
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust installed on my netbook the latest version of ubuntu (10.04). Have seen a few issues with other users however they have seemed to be able to make fixes.My problems are:
- Screen half brightness no change (does anyone have a fix yet?)
- Wifi not working (tried updating kernels, says they're the latest)
- Multi touch not able to be enabled, (again have seen a fix but for some reason won't work)
I mistyped my own name when installing Kubuntu 10.4 and realised it only recently. How do I change it? I tried chfn, but it complains about "name with non-ASCII characters" and won't change my name. Google is not usefull... So, what is the proper KDE way to change my full name?

I'm running a wired gigabit card using the atl1c driver. It works fine, but I don't get gigabit, only 100 Mbps. I have a gigabit switch and other Ubuntu machines on my network are gigabit. Is there any way this could be a software/configuration issue, or is the only likely explanation that my wires are of sub-par quality somewhere?

I am running CentOS 5.3.The NIC on my motherboard does not support gigabit, so I bought a gigabit network card. I installed the network card and configured it via system-config-network. Everything seems to work fine as long as I keep a cable plugged into the original NIC. The original NIC works just fine if it is the only one with a network connection, but as soon as I uplug the original NIC I can no longer ping nor connect to the server via the gigabit NIC.
The original NIC is eth0, the new NIC is eth1. Is there something I need to do to tell the system that eth0 is not required or something? I've never encountered an issue like this before...
I recently did a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04 on my machine. It previously had windows 7 on it and everything worked flawlessly. Now the gigabit LAN connection only connects at 10Mb/s under Ubuntu. I installed a virtual machine with windows 7 and there it connects at 1Gb/s.

I have a machine with an MSI motherboard and gigabit ethernet. However, it only reports being connected at 100Mb/s. I have tried using ethtool to force the speed to gigabit but it doesn't seem to have any effect. I'm using Ubuntu 11.04. Does anyone know a way other than ethtool to set the network speed?

The only way I can get it to register that way is to turn off auto negotiation and that just kills my signal.
