View 1 RepliesIn my Debian installation I can type extended ASCII characters such as åäö by default using the terminus font, however in Gentoo I can't get it to work so far. Nothing happens when I hit those keys, like in this thread:Missing glyphs in Terminus font, how to setup a fallback font ? But in this case I know terminus supports those characters in at least some of its versions, since it's works in Debian. So what I want is to find out how to see and choose which of the many different terminus font files is being used. I set the font in the same way on both Debian and Gentoo, using URxvt*font: xft:terminus:size=xx in .Xdefaults. Both systems use en_US.UTF-8 as default locale.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis obnoxious bar has just appeared in Smplayer at the top of the screen. It stays there even when I go full screen. Now full screen isn't full screen and there are black edges on both sides of the screen. I have not be able to figure out how to hide it. I do not need or want this onscreen display. How can I configure Smplayer to make this go away? How can I get my 16:9 full screen aspect ratio back? I have done nothing to mplayer or smplayer as far as editing any or changing any configuration files. I tried several videos and it displays on all of them. It was not there last time I used Smplayer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a windows 7 computer running Xming 6.9.0.31. I connect to my linux box running Ubuntu Server 9.10 with plink and run urxvt. It starts up and works perfectly however the urxvt screen flashes the xming root window about twice a second. This makes urxvt impossible to work with.Everything else that I have tested over the ssh connection (xterm, xfce4-terminal, etc) work perfectly with no flashing and this same problem has happened with two other linux installations (again only with urxvt)
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn my corporate environment, I'm required to run a Windows machine that acquires a VNC session on a machine in the server farm. My windows machine is dual head with different resolution monitors ( 1600x1080 on left and 1920x1200 on right). If I create a VNC session that spans the monitors, then maximizing a window in the VNC session causes it to stretch across both my monitors.
Instead, I want a "maximize" event to behave like it does on my windows machine -- I only want to maximize to the display that the window is on.
How can I define what, what I'll call, "maximize regions"? Regions in the VNC graphical plane where when I click "maximize", the window only expands to the region it currently ( and mostly) resides in.
Can I do this in gnome, X, xrandr, or some other magical interface?

I was running kpdf and clicked Full Screen from within the kpdf window, I think in the View menu. Now I don't know how to regain control of the screen. I mean the menu bar is no longer present. Each time I run it, it is in full screen mode. I pressed F1 and read the section on the View menu. But it doesn't say anything about full screen.
After opening a full screen video with hulu or news clips (I assume flash player), the video flashes for a about 2 seconds and then closes back to the smaller size.
what I need to be chasing?
I need to figure out how to tackle the full screen issue using GFCE Ultra. Anyone know this? I have checked off the full screen option, but when it goes to full screen, it just adds black space.

Finally, how can I use the PS3 wireless controller as my mouse? And after that, set it up for use with the emulators. I found a few links, but not sure which one I should be following:

They all have some similarities, but also some things that are different.
I have been trying to view streaming video ([URL]) on my LCD TV (Sony KDL-40V5100). The video is dropping frames when I view in full screen mode. I am currently running with Ubuntu 9.10 and have installed both the Adobe plug-ins.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy setup at home uses a laptop, with a larger external monitor in addition to the built-in LCD panel, which is primary. I can see the larger monitor from the rest of the room and use it as my TV, for playing DVDs and various types of web video. However, it isn't ideal for Flash video. For instance, if I watch a video from Hulu or any other Flash-based site, I can expand it to full-screen mode.
However, no matter which monitor the browser window is on, the full-screen mode is always on the laptop LCD panel, which is both too small and not visible from most of the room. Does anyone know of a way to force the Flash video to play full-screen on the monitor I select instead of the primary? My video chipset is NVidia, using kernel 2.6.31 (Ubuntu).
I have installed the most basic Arch Linux only with command line interface as guest OS on Windows using VMware. The problem is when I maximize the Vmware window, the Arch Linux console does not adjust to the full screen. How to do this without installing X window?
I also want to make copy-paste work to and fro from windows without installing X. Is it possible?
I recently upgraded my graphics card from a Geforce 7600GS to a Gefore 560Ti. And while most things are normal, during boot up my screen isn't "full screen" until X is started, after which everything else is fine. Essentially, all display, the grub menu, the splash screen, console text, etc, is within a box on the screen, with 2" on the left and right, and 1" top and bottom of empty blackness.
From what I understand, this is because the framebuffer is using the wrong resolution, but the maximum resolution that hwinfo --framebuffer returns is 1280x1024 (which I am already using "0x031a".) (My monitors is natively 1920x1080) Is it possible to do something about this? If not increase resolution than at least stretch the screen to full screen?

OpenSuse 11.3 with nVidia drivers.I have the screen working fine though it only runs in 1600x1200@75 using the nVidia driver (GTX260 card). When I play a game in full screen mode all seems OK but when I exit the game then I just get the mouse pointer on a black screen. There must be something present since the cursor changes as I move it, normal pointer -> hand over a link etc. It's just that black on black isn't very readable.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'd like to conserve as many resources as possible, with that being said, I'm switching from konsole to urxvt. After compiling and configuring my ~/.Xdefaults file as such.
Code:
URxvt*termName: rxvt
URxvt*scrollBar_right: false
URxvt*scrollBar: false
URxvt*borderLess: false
[code]....
Then I run
Code:
xrdb -load ~/.Xdefaults
By the way, running Slacware 13.1 x64 with Compiz. Still no transparency.
I have been mucking around with this for a couple of days and finally got Urxvt set with transparency and font spacing like I want. Does anyone else use Urxvt?
View 3 Replies View RelatedProblem with use of -hold|+hold on rxvt-unicode (urxvt) v9.09 on ubuntu server. On startup, I'm trying to launch terminal apps in urxvt automatically. E.g:
Code:
"urxvt -e /usr/bin/weechat-curses +hold"
or
Code:
"urxvt -hold -e mutt"
However, -|+hold does not seem to hold the terminal open. There is a flicker of a new window opening & then it's gone. I'm trying to invoke this from .xinitrc (startx-->.xinitrc) and also tried commands from inside awesome wm rc.lua (awful.util.spawn_with_shell("urxvt -hold -e mutt") seem to get same flicker result but closes immediately. I see this error in .xsession-errors, which might be relevant (do I perhaps need to specify the display??).
