Software :: Blender Animation Hangs With Ubuntu 10.10
Feb 2, 2011
I am running Ubuntu 10.10 and am animating with blender version 2.49b. whenever I try to add anything such as a cube or sphere, it always hangs and I can't close the window without logging out.
I put kmod for nvidia driver on my Fedora 9 ! I update kernel and now when i try to start blender i have this errors :
Code:
blender Compiled with Python version 2.5.1. Checking for installed Python... got it! ERROR: Unable to open Blender window
[code]....
I download blender 2.48 and 2.49 Rc static version ! [URL] But is started old version 2.48a . If i try to start from gnome menu ( graphics ..) blender 2.48a but not working !
I am having a problem getting Blender to run in Ubuntu 10.04. Whenever I run it, it just gives me a blank grey screen. I have to use "Force Quit" to close it down. It will not close down just by right clicking on the bottom tab and choosing "Close".
I have installed the version from the Ubuntu Software Center and it gives me the blank grey screen. I have manually installed version 2.49b with Python 2.6 for Linux x86-32 and it gives me the blank grey screen. I have manually installed version 2.56a Beta, 32 bit and it gives me the blank grey screen.
I run a dual boot system with Windows XP and Ubuntu 10.04. I have installed Blender in Windows XP and I have no issues. The program opens and you can see the normal layout with buttons and such.
Here is my computer info:
Laptop Toshiba Satellite A100 (5 years old)
-Intel(R) Celeron(R) M processor 1.70GHz
-512 RAM (Although it shows Memory as being 432 Mib in sysinfo)
-Graphics card - ATI Technologies Inc. RC410 (Radeon Express 200M)
-80 GB Hard Drive- 60 GB for Windows XP, 20 GB for Ubuntu 10.04 Currently 13.4 GB available in Ubuntu
I do not receive any error messages when I run Blender. Just a blank grey screen opens up, doesn't allow me to do anything, shows no buttons and has to be shut down using "Force Quit".
This will be my first posting here. Please forgive me for not posting this issue under the right place on the forum. I highly ask to the mod/admins to move this post to the correct location if needed to be, or let it continue as normal. My problem here is with this software blender 2.56a, I'm running Ubuntu 10.10. 64bit This version of blender worked just fine for me since it updated to my computer. But right after finishing an complex render, blender crashed and will not start up again.
Every time I click on the icon it just keeps flashing up and crashing down. So I went to the main blender site, and downloaded one of their stand alone version of the 2.56a. I ran it and it works just fine.
I tried reinstalling blender 2.56a under Synaptic, but no use. I'm out of ideas, I want this software to run like it use to. Again, It use to run without any problems, but just under one hard render it crashed, and Now it wont launch again.
However, I did mange to get my project to render just find under the stand alone. If any one needs some sort of debugging file, or information of some kind. I would then need to know how to re-chieve it..
I already tried disabling the animations under gconf editor and it won't work.. I tried under metacity, gnome interface, apps, whatever.. and I can still see the black animated square when minimizing....
I have planned to do some interactive maps / animation interfaces. what is the best software i can use for this purpose? i think flash cs3 is ok in windows. but what about for linux?
The problem i am facing is that all other animations seem to work such as close animation or open animation but the minimize animation is not working. If i set magic lamp for minimize animation in Compiz settings it disappears in a second.
I hope this is the right forum for this. I downloaded Blender today to try my hand at making some 3D graphics. I have used it in the past on a windows machine and it ran smoothly. This time I have downloaded it onto a computer with similar specs but it runs very slowly. The program is laggy and slow to respond to both keyboard and mouse input. When I checked the system monitor it said that I am using 50% of my cpu and 1/6th of my memory running both Blender and Firefox(to write this post). The machine is running no hotter than usual and the fans do not seem to be being stressed at all.
Does anyone know what could be causing the program to run so slowly?
I'm running Natty with the official Blender 2.57 32-bit build. This same problem occurs with previous version of Blender and Ubuntu, although not with Blender 2.4x or any other programs.Pressing the control key does nothing in Blender. Pressing 'Ctrl+S' causes the active object to scale, as if I just pressed 'S'. If I run 'killall gnome-settings-daemon', it temporarily works normally, but then I lose Gtk themes and icons and stuff.
I'm on a Dell Latitude D620, and I haven't messed with any keyboard settings.I know people using the same hardware and OS that can use Blender fine, so I'm guessing there's some sort of xinput configuration or something that got messed up somehow.
How to install blender 2.5 and up to the latest version in my ubuntu 10.04 o.s. I just want to have that software coz it is a latest version of blender... ..
I have never had this problem before. But when i run blender3d and alt-tab it glitches out. It happens when I use render(f12), alt-tab and switch desktops. I have also noticed that it does it with Sweethome3d. So it could be a java issue. Not really too sure though. I dont know what I am looking for to search the problem. So I thought I would make a new post and and ..... the issue followed with my Specs.
I reviewed the ..... and it missed alot of the glitches. But you can see some of them they are the pixels all over the screen.
I just upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 and everything went fine. No problems other then there is no animation while booting. It just goes to the login screen (ugly tree ) . I have a feeling it has something to do with the nvidia card (fx5200) i am using the 173 driver. Because the screen switches resloutions and no Nvidia screen is showing as in the previous version 9.10. Any ideas on how to fix this?? I did a search and came up with no good answers yet. The Nvidia seems to be working fine everywhere else so far.
I recently performed a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10 on a new hard disk, and I've noticed that for whatever reason, the animation isn't working on the default Ubuntu splash screen on startup. It does work on the splash screen when I shut down, oddly enough.
I haven't tried to change my splash screen or messed around with resolution settings or anything like that, so I'm not sure what to check.
In an attempt to install Tupi, I downloaded the tar.gz from here. I would've loved to just install the .deb, but it seems that there's only an i386 deb available.
Unfortunately, I have no idea how to install the tar.gz package so I was hoping that someone can help me out with that.
Also, say I get this installed from the tar.gz, will updates for the program appear in my update manager?
Trying to install Blender 3d (an older version, as current is not compatible with my ubuntu 9.04 This is the cd that came with the blender manual): System> Admin> Software Sources> Third-Party software> add cd-rom. I get E:Failed to mount the cdrom whether I put the disc in before or after I hit the Add-CD-Rom button. Synaptic gives same result. File Browser sees the CD-ROM, icon for it is displayed on my desktop.Opening the I can't get Blender to run by clicking the icon from the folder on my desktop.
I wanted to create a really cool intro on openshot, but when i clicked: new animated title, i clicked glare and it showed me this exact message:
Blender, the free open source 3D content creation suite is required for this action [url].
Please check the preferences in OpenShot and be sure the Blender executable is correct. This setting should be the path of the 'blender' executable on your computer. Also, please be sure that it is pointing to Blender version 2.5 or greater.
This is my first time using Fedora and I love it but, I had problems installing Openshot then I found a modified rpm. Now the problem is Blender 2.5, Openshot needs Blender 2.5+ and I only have Blender 2.49b and I cannot install blender 2.5 from the source because it just runs and Openshot will not work with it. How to setup Blender 2.5+ in Fedora 14 and how to configure it with OpenShot.
I've just decided to switch from Ubuntu and give this distro another go. I've not used SUSE since 9.x so we'll see what happens. I'm running Gnome anyway but when I launch Blender installed from the repositories it goes fullscreen (press F11 in firefox and that's fullscreen). This isn't the default - the default is windowed like when Firefox is maximised say.
You can run it from a terminal with the switch -w to launch it windowed but that doesn't do anything...still fullscreen. Then comes the kicker - I downloaded the alpha version of 2.5 which is a binary in a tarball and it still did it. What's going on? Why is openSUSE 11.2 forcing fullscreen mode? Any ideas because I quite like what I'm seeing in this version of openSUSE but I really need to do my 3D stuff in it and fullscreen makes things difficult when i want to multitask.
I really want to start using blender and was wondering if I would be better off upgrading my ram (I've got 1.2 GB) or my hard drive (15 GB free) for better results. And, correct me if I am wrong, I don't think that blender makes extensive use of your video card does it? I have a Radeon 9550.
Ok I am running Gentoo linux and everything works great except for blender.
It just shows this on startup of blender:
Code: Compiled with Python version 2.6.6. Checking for installed Python... got it!
It shows the blender logo of some sort of creature riding a space ship thing but all I get is a black screen. Every 6 seconds it flickers to the blender interface but then immediately goes back to black with the blender logo.
I have DRI enabled and I am using the "intel" driver. Its an Intel 82852/855GM onboard graphics device.
Code: direct rendering: Yes I know the onboard graphics sucks but its a laptop so there is nothing I can do about it. glxgears shows this:
Code: 237 frames in 5.0 seconds = 47.305 FPS. Blender works fine in Windows XP so I know my onboard video can support it.
I've recently switched from Firefox to Chromium for my browsing and am satisfied other than a persistent issue I have with Flash content. Almost all flash animation and video flickers and "stumbles" (especially when scrolling) in the Chromium and Google Chrome browsers. This issue is not at all present in Firefox. Chromium reports it's using libflashplugin.so which I believe is the "system plugin" and not the built-in plug-in.
Currently I'm using the Chromium build available in the Lucid repository, the adobe-flashplugin and ATI proprietary drivers installed. I have tried the Chromium daily build and the issue still persisted. I've considered trying Lightspark but have read that it's not a very "complete" plug-in.I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Flash plug-in available from Synaptic and even updated it directly from Adobe's website.
Since upgrading to maverick, I no longer have a shade animation. It was working splendidly in Lucid, but now, if I trigger the shade, it just snaps up. No nice, smooth rollup that I like. Screenshot attached of my compiz animation settings page.
I recently downloaded the Vienna3 mouse cursor theme and there is an animation where it turns into some cool looking thing when I drag a window. but early this morning I noticed that it has stopped working. I also installed the "slick black" theme that I got from gnome-look.org the night before but I customized it to run the Vienna cursor theme. but that drag animation was still working. Additional info: I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 and compiz fusion and I have gtk 2 set as my decorator
I am working on a presentation in OpenOffice's Impress. When I try to put animation in either the text or pics, it suddenly quits. I then click into it again and it does a recovery. Has anyone had this problem? What have you done about it? I am on a Dell optiplex 745 dual core with 2 gig memory operating in 10.04.
i am using compiz and i have just installed Cairo-Dock. I have a minimise/maximise animation that minimises the window to the dock, but I want it to go to the panel like it did before the dock . the dock has become my default task switcher, not just this one but all my compiz animations occur at the dock now (but this and the show window animations are the most annoying)
