Software :: Add Loose Source Routing To Packets

Mar 24, 2010

Is there any possible way I could add loose/strict source routing for traffic originating from a host ? I mean to add certain hops I want my packet to pass. With iproute2 or maybe iptables ?

Networking :: Routing Packets From One IP To Another

Sep 6, 2010

My setup is...I have a wireless access point using laptop as a gateway. The AP is also connected to a switch as is the laptop. So the laptop has two interfaces one wireless and one wired. A third device is using the AP to connect to a server on the internet. The AP sends the packets to my laptop where they are dropped. I've been looking for a solution to this problem without success. Basically is there a way for my laptop to forward all packets it sees from a certain IP address to whatever destination address they have?To clarify, my laptop is just the gateway of the AP and none of the packets are addressed to it at all, it just picks them up using a sniffer or similar tool.

Networking :: Iptables Routing Packets On Same Sub-network

Feb 17, 2010

I am running into trouble while trying to set-up a iptables routing policy. I have two machines on the same sub-network (xxx.xxx.153.0). One of the machines is used as a default gw for the other (xxx.xxx.153.250 is a gateway for xxx.xxx.153.142 and xxx.xxx.153.254 is a gw for xxx.xxx.153.250). There is no explanation for why the xxx.xxx.153.250 is in the middle -- xxx.xxx.153.142 can go straight to xxx.xxx.153.254, but is is like that for now.I am trying to find an iptable rule to be executed on the xxx.xxx.153.250 machine to route the packets.

Networking :: Routing Locally Generated Packets

Aug 9, 2010

My requirement was to direct certain traffic from various ports down different Internet connections. Basically, for locally generated packets, the OUTPUT chain in the mangle tables is used. You can MARK packets in this chain for ip rule processing. Now the "clear as mud" part. There must be a valid routing decision made without the fwmark, selecting the right source address, even if the gateway ip is invalid.

Networking :: Routing Packets Through VPN And Normal Connection

May 10, 2011

I have a router/modem linux box, connection to DSL through PPP.I also use an OpenVPN service, to which this box connects. My problem is that the speed cap of the VPN is just half that of the DSL connection. I don't need it for internet browsing. Is there a way I can route all the http traffic coming from the client computers (or all of the traffic will do too) through the normal connection? As of now I can only route all traffic either on VPN or normal PPP

General :: Adjust Routing Of External Packets To One NIC Instead Of Another?

Apr 13, 2010

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 server at home on VMware Workstation 7. I have two NIC's configured, one NIC is setup to have a direct connection to the network "Bridged", another NIC is setup to have a private network connection on VMnet1.

Network card 1 - 192.168.1.160 (Bridged)
Network card 2 - 10.1.1.1 (Internal access only)

So when I try to access the Internet, I can not go out on the NIC 1. If I try to ping google.com I get a return from 10.1.1.1 "no reply". But I know that NIC 2 is working, because I can ping 192.168.1.160 from the workstation I'm running on.

So I think that my routing is sending traffic out to the wrong NIC, but not sure if this is a metric in the iptables or another place?

The reason for two NICS is to simulate a DMZ where the server will be running Squid, to test proxy from another workstation on the 10.1.1.X subnet.

Networking :: Firewall - Allow Packets Coming From Internet After Authenticating And To By Pass Packets Generated From Internal LAN?

Feb 8, 2010

i have a linux server runnig oracle applications. i need to access this server from putty using ssh through internet. i did by registering my static ip with the dnydns.org and i am able to connect to the server. but now there is no security to authenticate any user as any one knowing the password can login to it.

i thought of configuring the firewall of linux server but the client ip`s are not static and they change continiously. so thought of keeping one more pc between the server and the router which will do the work of authenticating. but i am confuse as how to configure it to allow the packets coming from the internet after authenticating and to by pass the packets generated from internal LAN?

General :: Loose An Hour Every Time Reboot PC?

Aug 8, 2010

I was wondering if any one came across that issue before. Everytime I reboot my PC something (I assume GNOME) reset my system clock to an hour behind what is was the last time. So if a reboot twice in a row that'll be two hours behind and so on. It used to work fine until I had to change my system time backward temporally to overcome and issue with GPG. Since I put it back I get that phenomena. It's like it's adjusting it for the Day light saving everytime a boot. Problem is Japan does not have any day light saving. I run OpenSuse 11.2 with Gnome 2.28.2 as my interface. I'm currently located in Japan GMT+9 not DST. /etc/localtime -> /usr/share/zoneinfo/Asia/Tokyo

I suspect a bug in Gnome or Yast. It's not user specific because the time is already altered even before I log it.

Slackware :: Another Laptop About To Loose Virginity To Slackware64 -current?

Mar 20, 2010

Just got a new toy!

Quote:

Compaq/HP CQ60-615DX Notebook @Best Buy $369.00

Intel Celeron 900 (2.2Ghz)
250GB(7200rpm) HDD
2GB DDR2 SDRAM
8x DVD +/- R/RW Double layer
Win7 Home Premium (for the time being)

[Code]...

I will keep Win7 for clients as this will be another laptop for that usage plus wanting to have a decent laptop for the rec room to do that style of work. Cheap way to service M$ clients without buying more personal license(s). So far no big deal with M$ Win7 but I need to have that pathway available to me.

My reason to buy this notebook rather then a netbook should be obvious, big enough for me to do what is necessary. I've got test beds to do the real work, netbooks just won't meet the needs as describe above. I purchased a Netbook for my wife. That one will be used while she's away to aid with the new Grandchild, a lot easier to carry than her old HP Laptop. If the Netbook is lost then no worry since it's cheaper than her HP.

Debian :: OpenVPN And Loose The Basic Internet Connection In The Browser

Everything is great, however when I have openvpn connection established on the clients I loose the basic internet connection in the browser, but my clients can see the vpn server(even I can ssh to the server via the openvpn client ip). I am guessing that all the traffic is routed through the server. I am just not knowledgable enough with routing , iptables and internet sharing. I am using tun based setup on OpenVPN. I am just not even sure if this is a server or a client issue, sorry for ignorance and illeteracy.

Software :: Where Is The Source Codes For The Open Source Drivers For Each Distros

Jan 2, 2009

We all know we can install a linux system such as Fedora 10 and use it. Being linux, one should in principle get the source codes for everything that has been precompiled (except the proprietary drivers such as nvidia) in the installation DVDs/CDs. Where are the source codes ? Is there a place I can download them ?
To avoid confusion, I am not referring to the kernel source that can be compiled to give a linux kernel, but that does not include the drivers, such as intel_drv.so.

To be more specific, the intel graphic i810 driver has been built into any linux system, but where is the exact source? One answer may be that primary source intellinuxgraphics.com. However, if anyone tries to download the every changing (i.e., keep updated almost every single day) driver source codes from freedesktop.org, it is almost certain that the source codes will not be the same as the one that is finalized in Fedora 10.

Debian :: IP Packet Routing

Jan 27, 2016

I have recently upgraded a computer from Wheezy to Jessie, and I'm having trouble getting an internet connection shared via Ethernet by another computer (the provider) to work on it.I have activated the interface of the Jessie computer and configured a static IP on it in the same subnetwork as the provider's ethernet interface with the following commands:

Code: Select all# ip addr add 192.168.123.201/24 dev eth0
# ip link set up dev eth0

I now would like to set the address of the provider as the default route with Code: Select all# ip route add default via 192.168.123.100 dev eth0, but I get the following error message: Code: Select allRTNETLINK answers: File exists.

Indeed, when I run Code: Select all# ip route, the following comes up:

Code: Select alldefault dev eth0  scope link

I've tried to remove this default route to replace it with mine with Code: Select all# ip route flush table main and Code: Select all# ip route del default but these commands don't seem to work.

Fedora :: No Routing Of Packages In F12 And F13

Jun 18, 2010

I have a fedora 13 with two Internet links, but I'm having problems in configuring them. In the past 11 fedora works fine, on Redhat, Centos, only fedora 13 and 12 is not working the same configuration posted below:

# File rc.local
ip route add 200.20.150.192 dev eth0 src 200.20.150.194 table 1
ip route add default via 200.20.150.193 table 1
ip route add 192.168.2.0 dev eth3 src 192.168.2.2 table 2
ip route add default via 192.168.2.254 table 2
ip route add 200.20.150.192 dev eth0 src 200.20.150.194
ip route add 192.168.2.0 dev eth3 src 192.168.2.2

ip rule add from 200.20.150.194 table 1
ip rule add from 192.168.2.2 table 2
ip rule add fwmark 1 lookup 1
ip rule add fwmark 2 lookup 2
ip route flush cached

# The route default is to link 1 ( 200.20.150.193 )
# Some configuration basic tested and not work with iptables
iptables -t mangle -A PREROUTING -i eth3 -s 192.168.0.0/24 -j MARK --set-mark 2
iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth0
iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth1

My iptables do the identification mark of the packets, but some things happen that it could not do the routing of packages in Fedora 13 and 12, I don't really know what can be, I tried everything I knew.
