Hey I just installed the wesnoth slackbuild. Then I tried to play it and it starts fine but when I click the buttons nothing happens.
So I tried exiting and used xwmconfig to switch to KDE from fluxbox. In KDE the buttons work.
I don't know whats changed but since I installed 13.37 the fonts in fluxbox are crappy looking.Is there anything I should know thats changed with regards to this.They were fine in 13.1.

With my attempts so far, either everything including command line error messages is in German, or nothing. Can anyone of you, please, provide a hint, what's the best way to solve this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo with 13.0 I compiled the fluxter pager and it come back with 'unable to connect to server' when bringing up fluxbox...I noticed that in KDE there is a nice pager that after some playing fits quite well into an enlarged taskbar, and began to set up my application to remember where it is in the pager, and the size/position of windows...Now, I have it set so that only minimised windows show as icons in the remainder of the taskbar, but I have noticed when I start up my app that all the windows show as minimised even though they are not.... when I click through each page of the panner they begin to dissapear and eventually I am just left with a couple that once I click them (even though there already maximised) they dissapear and I am left with a clean taskbar..
After this minising the window works as it should.The process I have spawns new processes, generally one in each pager window, and each process spawns multiple windows within that page window, so I have a lot of minimised stuff to go through!This is compounded by the fact that I have selected to only show minimised windows from that 'screen', which doesnt seem to work, unless of course the panner is still working on one screen, and not taking into account the virtual panner windows...
I've lost all sound output. Still works in xp. As root, reran alsaconf, alsamixer and alsactl store. No effect. Run xmms and all is normal except no sound; it plays the file, shows its title, the visual display is active as usual.Is there something I could have done that would mute all sound output?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using fluxbox on my eee pc 1000h and use conky to display % battery charge but (unlike my previous laptop) I don't get a hardware-triggered beep warning me of low battery.I've done a bit of searching but haven't yet found a neat software solution for either a beep or toolbar notification. Any suggestions?(I'm not wanting to switch back to KDE right now.)

What is the best GUI development kit such as Qt, GTK or FLTK that is best fit for such an app? I mean what is the most stable, reliable and fast GUI development library that works best with Fluxbox?
I use NetworkManager to handle my net connections and it's applet that allows me to control everything from the gui is called nm-applet. I was able to edit /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.fluxbox so that nm-applet starts when fluxbox does and away I go. From runlevel 3 that is.
On my laptop I like to boot into runlevel 4 for various reasons. When I start a fluxbox session from runlevel 4 this doesn't happen. What file do I have to edit to get this to start from runlevel 4?
I'm running Slackware 13.1 with fluxbox as my wm. I want to set up network-manager along with the pptp plugin. So far I've installed the NetworkManager and the network-manager-pptp plugin along with all the dependencies specified in the slackbuild packages which I downloaded from [URL]. I could use some help configuring the network-manager so that I can launch it as a regular user rather than as root and I want it to come up in the fluxbox toolbar if possible.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu 10.04. I have been using fluxbox for a loooong time, but just recently decided it would be cute to have some desktop icons and such. It looks like fbdesk is supposed to do exactly what i want. I installed the package, set up a rudimentary fbdesk.icons file and ran fbdesk from a terminal. It looks like it should be running just fine, but no icons! I also tried going w/o an icons file to get it to spit out the default icon, but also nothing.
View 3 Replies View Relatedive used openbox for quite some time, but recently decided to make the switch to fluxbox. i have gotten everything up and running except for true transparency. i have seen screenshots in which this works, but i have not been able to duplicate the results.
in openbox, all i had to do was run cairo-compmgr at startup and my terminals were automatically transparent, and all the window effects i selected with cairo-compmgr were applied when i chose them. in fluxbox, i run cairo-compmgr, it starts up fine, and i know its running because i can use it's transparency settings to set whole windows to alpha (super + mouse scrolling), and the little "tab" buttons that fluxbox has have shadow effects drawn on them. the actual windows, however are not effected by cairo-compmgr running in the slightest. the windows themselves dont have shadows, and my terminals do not use transparency at all. even my xchat notifications have black boxes around them because not transparency is being used.
I like working with light text on black bg in Fluxbox however I need to use Kate editor which has bright white background and dark text. How can I change the background to black?(and the side panel of file list, too)? I presume I need to change the kde theme under Fluxbox. Does anyone know where the config file is and what to change in there if it's not obvious?

When I installed slackware, I picked KDE because of the convenient app suite. I don't wish to uninstall kde but I'd like to be able to pick which environment I use when I swap to a GUI. Something like a flag, startx --fluxbox.

I've just install Slackware and Fluxbox windows manager. I suppose I have to configure some stuff, update my system, change theme etc etc. First of all I need to activate my wifi card because I can't have the laptop on my desk using ethernet all the time.

Situation is the same no matter what browser I use (generally Swiftfox). If I switch to XFCE, there are no issues. Using standard install of 13.1 and have no other issues. Have no idea where to look or what to look for.

Ok my friend just got me started on lennox and i'm having two issues.
1st issue) I'm trying to compile the new Wesnoth but its asking for a cd rom drive when i type the sudo code. Me being on a netbook i don't have a cd drive. Is there anyway around that?
2nd issue) I have the Netbook remix lay out with the overlays but i'd like to to have the standard one my friends have. How would i go about that.
I want to run the development version of the game Battle for Wesnoth, but I'm having some problems compiling it...I downloaded the latest version (1.9.1) and followed the installation instructions;

I managed to get to this point, after some small problems, but 'configure' told me I needed SDL.I installed SDL (libsdl1.2-dev) using the Software Center, but now it sais;

I am a player of Battle for Wesnoth, one of the best Ubuntu games. I have been running Wesnoth 1.6.5 (stable) on Ubuntu 9.10. But many a times, sound stops, and Wesnoth needs to be closed from System Monitor by killing processes, or using "killall -ser username" Command from Console. So, in Wesnoth Channel, they told that it is a problem of ALSA.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have some problems getting some of the buttons on my Thinkpad working properly. Volume buttons, thinklight, etc. work through tpb. It's the other buttons (sleep, hibernate, etc.) that are causing problems. The wireless radio button also works. I can hibernate and suspend successfully from the command-line using pm-suspend, etc. I have copied the 30-keymap-module-thinkpad-acpi.fdi file to /etc/hal/fdi/policy, where it sits alongside my UK keyboard layout policy (10-keymap.fdi). In this file, I have edited the 'radio' button to call a 'bluetooth' event instead, but it seems to be ignored and pressing Fn+F5 toggles both bluetooth and wlan radios and not just bluetooth... Is there something I have to do to merge the 2 files together? Or do I have to rename the thinkpad .fdi file so I have 10-keymap.fdi and 30-keymap.fdi?
I have the tpb daemon running but it's set not to block keystrokes and when I run xev and press the key combination for sleep, it reports 'xf86sleep' correctly, hibernate reports 'xf86suspend', etc., so I know the keys are getting recognized in some form... However, it seems that the HAL daemon is not picking up these events and running the corresponding commands. I am a member of the 'power' group, nevertheless, even running as root does not seem to make any difference. Finally, I am running wmii as a windowmanager with no desktop environment, and none of these buttons is configured in the window manager. hald should be picking up the events but it seems it isn't
I upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 and now my sound control buttons on the key board don't work
I have dell inspiron 600m with xubuntu 10.10 with the latest updates.
I do have sound when I click on the sound indicter on the top right it brings me to the mixer where I could adjust the sound by clicking and dragging the slider up or down.
I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop with a fresh install of Lenny and KDE 3.5.10.On the computer there are these 7 Keys. I only care about the 3 related to sound. Now everything works perfect in Gnome, but when I switch to KDE, the 3 audio buttons don't work. I can't seem to figure out why and get them working. Does anyone have a solution for this? Again, they work in GNOME but not KDE.

I am running Fedora 12 with KDE on an Acer Aspire One netbook.
A recent update has caused the KDE shutdown/restart/logout buttons (found for example through the Fedora -> Leave menu or by pressing the power off switch)to stop working. I am having to shutdown using shutdown -P now command.
So I have the following questions:
a) Has anyone else had this issue and knows a workaround/fix?
b) Does anyone know what package these belong to so I can try an older version?
c) Does anyone know where this package writes its logs, or if I need to install anything for it to do so so I can have a look?
d) Does anyone know the command-line interface to these commands - that may give me either a more gentle workaround than shutdown -P now, or some insight into why the command is no longer working.
originally my sounds worked completely, but now I only have sound out of the headphone jack. I used all the OEM software originally, but ended up following this step-by-step guide to run all pulse audio. After installing that I noticed that the sound keys on my laptop still showed that they changed the volume, but didn't have any effect in PulseAudio Volume Control... fixed that by changing the keyboard layout. While that bugged me the sound still came out of my speakers and headphone jack, but just recently the speakers randomly stopped working. View 5 Replies View RelatedI updated Lucid yesterday, and when I restarted the user interface was changed to a more simple feeling display. This makes me think I'm stuck in a "basic" mode or something. I attached a screen shot, but to give you an idea ill describe some issues. For one thing the minimize buttons are now on the right. The volume control, which used to appear on the top right of the screen, is gone and my multimedia volume control buttons on my Inspiron 1420 no longer work. Furthermore, the command terminal is now white and the keyboard shortcuts for copy and past don't work.
Immediately after updating I also got an error message at login (which also appears different and gives options on bottom of screen like gnome Failsafe) which said something like "gnome default power management installed incorrectly...". I followed the advice of a forum thread that involved the purge command and that seemed to remedy that message.
