Slackware :: Setting Up Network Manager In Fluxbox?

May 26, 2011

I'm running Slackware 13.1 with fluxbox as my wm. I want to set up network-manager along with the pptp plugin. So far I've installed the NetworkManager and the network-manager-pptp plugin along with all the dependencies specified in the slackbuild packages which I downloaded from [URL]. I could use some help configuring the network-manager so that I can launch it as a regular user rather than as root and I want it to come up in the fluxbox toolbar if possible.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Network Manager Stuck On 'setting Network Address' Then Continuously Prompts For Hex Or ASCII Key

May 28, 2011

When I attempt to connect to a wireless network, the network manager asks me for the network's password, then says 'setting network address' for 20 or so seconds, then asks me for some random Hex or ASCII key in the same type of window I put the password in (Secrets for Noel -- KDE Daemon). Since a key is already typed into the window, I press OK, which then causes the network manager to go back to 'setting network address', then the window pops up again and keeps repeating itself.

I'm running Opensuse 11.4 with KDE, and my driver is ath9k. I don't know much about linux so please don't tell me to 'recompile this' or 'change this setting' without explaining how to do it. Please help, I've been unable to connect to wireless in OpenSUSE for 2 weeks now.

Ubuntu Networking :: Setting DNS On Network Manager?

Jul 24, 2011

I am trying to set a fix ip address with network manager since my router is not able to set it in order to make port forwarding for aMule.I managed to set the IP address and also de primary/secondary DNS on network manager. My question is: should I set the same DNS on bot the router and network manager?More detail: my router has its own DNS's other than those of OpenDNS. At the moment, I left those DNS's on the router and set up the OpenDNS ones on network manager. Is it correct or should I set the same DNS's on both the router and network manager? In this case, would it be a waste of time since there will be a sort of "double requesting" to the same DNS? Or one of the 2 DNS settings overrides the other one (for example, just the network manager DNS's are considered)?buntu NattyKernel 2.6.38-10-generic #46-Ubuntu SMPNetwork Manager version 0.8.4~git.20110318t152954.9c4c9a0-0ubuntu1

Fedora Networking :: Samba And Network Manager In 9 - Setting Up A Wired Connection?

Feb 3, 2009

I have 2 workstations that I'm trying to network together so that I can backup each to the other. One is XP sp2 and the other Fedora 9. Since installing Samba on the Fedora box and trying to get it configured, I have a problem that Add/remove programs won't do installs because it says there's no connection to a network. Network Manager says there aren't any connections, but it worked before the Samba install. Mozilla and Thunderbird can access the internet OK. Both workstations are connected by cable to my router and thus to my ISP (DNS server).

Two questions:- where can I find hints on setting up a wired connection (which card's MAC address does it want? router or wrkstn?) and Am I right that Add/remove is stuffed because of Network Manager?I now have Samba working from Linux to XP, but still can't get into Linux from XP. I tried the Linux PC's MAC address and set up a wired connection in Network Manager. NM still thinks there isn't one...

many of you may have heard of fluxbox and maybe even used it, if you did you will have noticed a very quick but extremely sparse window manager and probably decided it wasn't for you due to lack of features. I'll show you how to quickly and easily give fluxbox all the features of your desktop.

Ubuntu :: Login Manager Causes Conky To Not Start With Fluxbox

Jan 23, 2010

I recently upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 and I have noticed an increase in loading time when logging in.What use to take less then 1 sec is now taking 3-4. It sometimes is able to start conky but most of the time it doesn't. When I manual run it after login in it has no problems starting. When I start a session with 9.04 I noticed it would go straight to fluxbox it would then take a few seconds to load conky and pidgin. When starting a session with 9.10 the loading seems to happen before the login manager passes control to fluxbox. When the login manager is finished pidgin is signed and ready, there is no more loading to be done.

Would removing the login manager and starting a session from the terminal be advisable? I only use fluxbox.

Slackware :: KDE Funnies After Ditching Fluxbox?

Feb 17, 2010

So with 13.0 I compiled the fluxter pager and it come back with 'unable to connect to server' when bringing up fluxbox...I noticed that in KDE there is a nice pager that after some playing fits quite well into an enlarged taskbar, and began to set up my application to remember where it is in the pager, and the size/position of windows...Now, I have it set so that only minimised windows show as icons in the remainder of the taskbar, but I have noticed when I start up my app that all the windows show as minimised even though they are not.... when I click through each page of the panner they begin to dissapear and eventually I am just left with a couple that once I click them (even though there already maximised) they dissapear and I am left with a clean taskbar..

After this minising the window works as it should. The process I have spawns new processes, generally one in each pager window, and each process spawns multiple windows within that page window, so I have a lot of minimised stuff to go through! This is compounded by the fact that I have selected to only show minimised windows from that 'screen', which doesnt seem to work, unless of course the panner is still working on one screen, and not taking into account the virtual panner windows...

Slackware :: Which GUI Library Works Best With Fluxbox

Jan 21, 2010

I am planning to develop an application that will have a GUI. The first priority is stability and second is performance. Portability and eye candy is not important. To fit these primary requirements the app will be run under and optimized for Fluxbox WM.

What is the best GUI development kit such as Qt, GTK or FLTK that is best fit for such an app? I mean what is the most stable, reliable and fast GUI development library that works best with Fluxbox?

Slackware :: Start Program When Fluxbox Starts?

Apr 25, 2010

I use NetworkManager to handle my net connections and it's applet that allows me to control everything from the gui is called nm-applet. I was able to edit /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.fluxbox so that nm-applet starts when fluxbox does and away I go. From runlevel 3 that is.

On my laptop I like to boot into runlevel 4 for various reasons. When I start a fluxbox session from runlevel 4 this doesn't happen. What file do I have to edit to get this to start from runlevel 4?

Slackware :: Fluxbox + Cairo-compmgr Questions About Transparency?

May 25, 2011

ive used openbox for quite some time, but recently decided to make the switch to fluxbox. i have gotten everything up and running except for true transparency. i have seen screenshots in which this works, but i have not been able to duplicate the results.

in openbox, all i had to do was run cairo-compmgr at startup and my terminals were automatically transparent, and all the window effects i selected with cairo-compmgr were applied when i chose them. in fluxbox, i run cairo-compmgr, it starts up fine, and i know its running because i can use it's transparency settings to set whole windows to alpha (super + mouse scrolling), and the little "tab" buttons that fluxbox has have shadow effects drawn on them. the actual windows, however are not effected by cairo-compmgr running in the slightest. the windows themselves dont have shadows, and my terminals do not use transparency at all. even my xchat notifications have black boxes around them because not transparency is being used.

Ubuntu :: No Network-manager Or Nework-manager-gnome

Oct 6, 2009

I have been trying to lighten the load that Ubuntu uses on my RAM and processor, and decided to try LXDE, as it is the lightest-weight DE that I have tried and liked. I noticed I didn't have any wireless connectivty under LXDE, so I checked the LXDE site for the solution, and it said to download and install LXNM, which supports wireless connections. Unfortunately, installing LXNM (apt-get install lxnm) also uninstalled nework-manager, and network-manager-gnome, on top of lxnm not working properly, and stranding me without any way of reinstalling the OS, and without an internet connection (I can't connect with a wired connection, either). Is there anything I can do, aside from reinstalling?

Slackware :: Any Kind Of Package Manager / Slap-get / Sbopkg For Slackware ARM?

Feb 13, 2011

I am very happy to announce that today I succeeded to install full Slackware ARM on the pandaboard: URL...I did the following:

* sd with 2 partitions, one (vfat) for bootloaders (MLO, u-boot.bin) and uImage and the other one (ext2) for minirootfs
* copy xloader (MLO), uboot and uImage from Angstrom distro on the first partition
* copy Slackware ARM minirootfs on the second partition with Angstrom modules in the usual path (/lib/modules/...)
* boot in ARMedslack
* install all the others packages via NFS

I had to make some changes to configuration files as indicated here:URL...The next step is to build a kernel and modules for omap4 by myself and use them instead of the Angstrom ones. One question: is there any kind of package manager, such as slap-get, sbopkg, etc. for Slackware ARM? If not, can I use the SlackBuilds from slackbuilds.org? How to modify them?
